I love that - the separation of gifts on St Nick and the feast of Jesus Christ Nativity on Dec 25th - great idea and great of you to tell us about it- thank you❤.
Oh my goodness the food sliding in from off camera, lol! And the mama glow and smile when your little girl kneads the dough, what a blessing to my heart. I can really appreciate you splitting up gifts from Christmas Day, I love that you and your husband really weigh the values you want to instill in your children and really make it work in a delightful way.
I love this. My husband and I both grew up in non-christian households so we are navigating it all for several years now and feel convicted to do something different for our boys. We are not sure how just yet, since Santa has been the main focus throughout our own childhood, but love this idea! It should 100% be about Jesus and his coming to earth for all of us.
I love how patient you are caring to teach your little one how to cook things with you. That is so beautiful!! What a lovely looking feast! Loved watching it all and listening to you talk about what is on your heart. St. Nicholas was generous and caring. Definitely he is worthy of admiring and living as, since he did his best to live out his life as Christ did.
I’ve also been feeling strongly called to give our presents days before Christmas day, so our kids’ focus remains only for the true excitement of Jesus’ birthday ❤
Such a beautiful video and what a perfect way your family is celebrating Christ’s birth on the 25th and the gift giving on St. Nick’s feast day. God bless you and your family.
I love your heart for keeping God at the center of your life. I also love and appreciate your authenticity in sharing your mistakes and explaining how to avoid them. I imagine not feeling well contributed to the mistakes. I hope you are feeling better now. I have been doing all the Christmas (all holiday) prep alone now for 14 years. My sister and mom died and my husband’s family lives far away. My favorite part of this video was your little girl helping and her questioning, “me?, “my hands?” How precious!! She did a fabulous job. You are such a good mommy. God’s love and peace.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your family. What a blessing to your husband to keep the holidays going. She loves to help, and I’ve finally embraced it. 💗 May God continue to bless you.
Thank you for such an atmospheric video. I wish you a speedy recovery! In our family, we don't have a tradition of giving gifts for Christmas. Instead, every year we put presents under the children's pillows on St. Nicholas Day. And even when I became a mother myself, I still love it when my family gives me gifts from St. Nicholas. Christmas is Jesus' birthday, so all the gifts should be for Him 🤍
Please pray for my husband just found out he has lung cancer. On top of heart failure, COPD and prostate cancer. It just seems like so much I have been praying for strength to be able to handle what comes our way.
I agree with you about not focusing on the gifts so much. I have never had a conflict with Santa because I always raised my kids to know that he is based on Saint Nicholas, who was a real & inspiring person! That is the wonderful thing about being Catholic. We have so many saints that have done wonderful things to bring the light & love of Christ to the whole world. I just always made sure my kids understood that he was a real person in history & the WHY behind the gift giving - that it is symbolic of the wise men bringing Jesus gifts & the gift that Jesus brought us (salvation). We have do give gifts on Christmas Day & I am sad to say that most of our extended family ONLY focuses on the gifts. When we would try to put a limit on it or reign it in or try to put the focus on our faith, we would get a lot of tension. But such is the way with being Christian; it is not an easy way to live, when you don't conform to the world. My kids are grown & they have a healthy attitude towards the gift thing - we work together as a family to commit ourselves to several charities to make sure that others feel as blessed as we do on this most holy day. And now, my hubby & I have been asked to be Santa & Mrs. Clause at our local hardware store every year & the magic of that event has really been lovely! One year, for homeschooling, we did a Christmas around the world celebrating all the different countries traditions, costumes, tried new foods, and learned about their gift giving ways. Another year we did a Jesse tree & made ornaments representing all the different 'branches' on the tree & read their stories/lineage in Scripture. And yet another year, we celebrated all the Saints' feast days, in December. We dressed up, did worksheets, made special food, etc... My girls are Irish on my side & Scandinavian on their dad's. So on St. Lucia's day, my elder daughter dressed up with a wreath & candles & served us rolls. That type of thing. Now they are grown & it isn't so much fun LOL So I passed this tradition on to my new neighbor. I put together a picnic hamper with xmas dishes & napkins for her, cinnamon rolls, oranges, hot cocoa, new books, candle, & a wreath & starboy hat/star wand. She is trying to homeschool, so I also included some worksheets, fact sheets & coloring pages. I walked to her house in the dark with a lantern & left the treats on her porch. I txted her a link with the Santa Lucia song to play while opening the hamper. She said it made her cry. This is the type of love that I like to show during this season. Saint Lucia was a light bearer & I truly believe that is what all Christians are called to be - light bearers to the world. It is my duty/calling to show others that to be a Christian is to love thy neighbor & to light as many 'candles' as I can. I may never be able to save my fellow man from a famine, like Saint Lucia did, but I can 'feed' people spiritually! Just as Saint Nick was a giving & righteous man, who gave of his own wealth to save others from poverty & despair. Much love to your family in this advent season. Don't worry about being 'controversial'. To BE a follower of Christ is already to spark controversy and to be Catholic, this day in age, is doubly controversial, I feel. ♥
Man do I need this video. I’m 6 weeks pregnant with our 2nd baby, our son is 22 months and wild. I have nausea this time that’s much more constant than with my son. I’ve been keeping up with cooking, but I need cleaning motivation. I’m about ready to throw our cats out the window, all they contribute to is fur and dust on the ground 😅
😂 I died over the cat. Congratulations 🎉 on your pregnancy!!!! Yay!!! So excited for you but 100% understand the sickness and then chasing a toddler on top of that. Ugh the first trimester is soooo rough! Praying for you! Sleep when you can, don’t feel bad for taking more breaks and not getting “it all done”. Give yourself more grace but keep moving. As much as I hated when people told me that, it did seem to help me feel better than when I just sat. You got this!
Hi Kelsey. I found your video's two weeks ago and I realy like them. I also watched some earlier video's. I think its a good thing not making christmas about getting gifts for the kids. But there is a thing about saint Nicolas. I'm from the Netherland in Europe and st Nicolas is a very big thing in our country. Its just as big as Santa Claus in America. I have celebrated this feast of St. Nicolas for over 46 years and then I found out the reall dark demonic background of this feast and it shocked me and opened my eyes to the treu meaning of this feast. St. Nicolas most probably never existed. The Vatican in Rome has even declared there was never a Saint Nicolas. The reall roots of St. Nicolas- AND Santa Claus as well- lies in the pagan old German believes in the German gods like Thor and Wodan and their demons ( elfs). And it even does go far more back to even Babylon and their gods Moloch and Baäl. I could give you more information. Just let me know if you want too. I will never celebrate St. Nicolas again nor give presents with christmas. Like your other video's, but I had to give some feedback about this content. We as a familly do another time in the year a giftday with the kids, without a Santa Claus or St. Nicolas Blesses ad love Nova.
Thank you for sharing. My understanding, even when looking up St. Nicholas was canonized a saint June 5, 1446. He was a bishop of Myra and although the legends about him could be fake, I don’t have any evidence to show he wasn’t a bishop and didn’t exist. As far as paganism, it is so old that one could link almost anything to “pagan roots”. We celebrate St. Nicholas as a given person, who once rich gave all he had, and most importantly, gave himself to God. We want to promote our children (and selves) to be more giving and share the blessings God has given us. I understand where you are coming from, and appreciate coming at it with kindness and concern. Hello to the Netherlands!
I'm almost certain that St. Nicholas was the one who punched a heretic at a council. I don't think that it's possible for someone who didn't really exist to be canonized. I could be wrong, I'm still learning.
@@faithfulacresfarmhouseI am from Germany and every family with children celebrates St. Nicholas' Day here! Of course he existed! He has not do with Father Christmas, the fictional character that visits German children on Christmas Eve. More recently, people have begun two confuse or mix these two, but I taught my children that it's quite easy: One wears a bishop's gown, hat and staff, one comes in a fur-brimmed coat. And of course one day commemorates a real person who is an example of faith and compassion whereas the other is just a "play pretend" we do at Christmastime. If you are interested, I recorded the song that most German children sing on St. Nicholas' Day (on my channel. I will not be offended if you delete this comment!).
@@ashleyjones6888 slapped, I believe, would be the correct action. LOL. & yes, he was at the council that was convened to cast out some heresies that were developing....it is the council that we gained the Nicene Creed from.
Kelsey, I am so inspired by your tradition and what you are teaching your children about the meaning of Christmas. Really, if you think about it, what service are we doing our children by making Santa the hero at Christmas? Jesus is the reason for celebrating Christmas. Why teach them about a man/Santa that they will eventually find out was a myth, when they should know from the beginning that Jesus is the Savior of the World!

Ok tell us about your “new” old stove! I thought I noticed it was different
It is an Elmira stove from 1999. I found it on Marketplace for a steal!
