For me, the ideas in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
I recommend just tying an elastic to the stairs and putting a hook on the back of the gates. We used a simple rubber office elastic to put a safety “lock” on our double door fridge/freezer so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a door as babies don’t open from the side and won’t be able to get thru before it closes, especially if you make it so that the elastic doesn’t stretch more than a couple of centre-meters (an inch)
Just curious but should you have a spring for self closing on your pretty baby gates? Otherwise I think they are very functional. I know you mentioned putting on a bungee cord for extra safety which might take the place of the spring or self closing hinge? I am not a builder and I just thought I’d mentioned this more as an after thought of your gates. Thank you for sharing all your plans with us! Merry Christmas to you and your family and subscribers 🏡🎄😍
Guys this is an excellent video, and will help me with my doggie gate. Question, why didn’t you install a gate latch, or spring loaded hinges to prevent baby from opening the gate? Babies are smart, as you are aware, and it will be no time before yours is opening that gate.
They look great! As a suggestion Don't use bungees to secure the gates. Tacky and awkward. I would add a couple of sliding bars at the hinge side of each gate that slide toward the opposite gate. easier to operate and still does not hurt the vertical beams. Just a thought.
Love your creativity...but from babysitting for many years & many children plus my 4. I give her 2 to 3 months and she will stand on it. I hope she does not get too tall! Kids are amazing little gymnastic creatures LOL GOOD LUCK Mom!! :-) Merry Christmas too and A Blessed N Safe 2019!!
Yes, cross bars that act as toe holds are a no-no for child barriers. It actually makes the falls worse. A sheet of perspex or thin mdf often the only real solution for homemade gates. And height.
Those are super cute but my boys would have been over those in seconds. I had a 10 month old literally climbing my entertainment center and climbing out of his crib at the same age. I hope your baby girl is much more mellow than my little mountain climbers
me, too.....my oldest could climb the door and open the knob before he could walk....those bottom frame pcs? he would have been over the top in no time at all....I found him on top of my mother-in-law's kitchen counter when he was 7 months.... no chair or anything, but he did have a row of drawers he redesigned into a staircase. I love the way the gates look, but I think I would have painted it just to avoid trying to match the stains.....easier to wipe clean, too. You did such a nice job protecting your beautiful beams...Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to Grace.
Snap! My little girl was walking at nine months and climbed out of her cot at ten months (luckily I was in the room when she first tried it and had my husband convert her cot/ crib into a toddler bed.) My little girls favourite thing was to pull herself up onto our gates and shout at whoever was upstairs/ out of reach! (That was from eight/ nine months!) Saying that I am 5’10” and both of my babies were/ are tall but even still both of my kids would have fallen head first down those stairs. It was so frustrating watching as I kept wanting to shout ‘make it taller!’
Everly is so cute!!! Great idea to keep her safe!!! Can I make a suggestion? Hold on to these baby gates even after you don't need them for Everly . You might need them for company that might be staying with You, that have young children. Also I know it's hard to believe now but time flies and kids grow up fast and some day you will have grand children in your forever home. Trust me on this one I have six kids and boy you blink and there grown up and your on to grand kids!!!! MERRY Christmas to your wonderful family!!! 😊
Merry Christmas. Great ideas can be found here! I like all of your ideas & selling the plans is so fair! I plan to buy or download a couple of them at a later date when we are ready to do them. Happy New year to the most efficient & organized family I know of.
Everly is growing SO fast!! BEAUTIFUL gates!! 👍 Merry Christmas 🎄to YOUR family as well!! Happy New Year!! 🎉 May 2019 be everything you hope for!! 💞❄⛄❤
Your projects are always fantastic! Make sure you create a latch for the gate on the end opposite the hinges. When I leave our gates unlatched, our grandchildren did not take longer than a minute to figure out how to open them. They are masters of escape! Thank you for your wonderful projects! Merry Christmas!
GO! Everly GO! 🏃♀️👶well OK slow down enough for hugs and food also Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ( Hay the kid won't really know what day it is - geesh) Oh and the same wishes to your parents and sister and brother. Now Go! 😀
Merry Christmas 🎄 This is a beautiful gate; I just worry about your little sweetie climbing over the top and falling down the stairs. Will you be adding a roller bar on top (like coyote rollers) so she can’t climb it?
The part y’all built to “wrap” on the beams to lessen the screw/nail damage to them, how did y’all do that?? Did y’all mail gun them to the beams? Then screwed the hinges onto that?
Watch at 7:10, we built a U shaped piece to wrap the beam and attached a straight piece vertically to the front, then attached the hinges directly to that. No need to screw anything directly to the beam that way. I hope this makes sense.
OMG. I’ve watched this video I don’t know how many times. Not sure where my brain was this morning. I feel dumb It does and thank you for the reply. I look forward to the content you and your husband out!
I could not find the plans on your blog. Is it on there somewhere? If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I have the same problem with the post, we do not want to mark up ours except ours is iron.
Merry Christmas to your beautiful family may the Christ Child be foever in the center of your home, I'm just out of curiosity why didn't you put the slats on the front side of the gate instead of the inside that way baby couldn't push them even remotely out
Hi Anna and Jacob! You don't know how much I wait to see your next video each week. Thank you for the wonderful sharing. Just a quick query... Did you check if the gaps comply with any child safety standards (if any is prescribed )?
100mm/4" is max spacing for most codes for hand rails, balustrades and gates. However with these one's they've built the cross bars act as climbing bars so they wouldn't pass codes as child barriers. I'm not suggesting what they've done in their situation requires code compliance (I do actually agree with what they're trying to do) but codes that do relate to this sort of thing are quite clear and simple. The lack of automatic latching is also concerning. Babies find ways of opening everything! A crawling baby learning to stand will def swing that gate open from the opening ends. The gates as they are create a false sense of security and relaxing of vigilance.
That is a great idea. I bought a baby gate for over $40 which broke the first week and have been looking for a better idea. This will be the perfect plan for our stairway
Love the solution for mounting without damaging the finish but there are so many things wrong with these gates as safety barriers they are actually dangerous. Low height, toe holds, hand holds, no self close, no latch (at the mo). The false-positive of doing them is that they create a false sense of security and you turn off your vigilance. Any toddler will use these as a climbing frame and will tumble forward over and actually end up falling from a greater height. Please please make them taller and work out a sprung hinge with a proper latch.
I don't think I'm over-stating it to say that by placing and presenting yourself as experts (as you have as a fairly established, intentionally instructional DIY channel) encouraging people to make these and supplying plans you may actually be opening yourself up to some kind of liability. That's not withstanding your own personal stress or horror that may come from hearing of someone else's child being hurt following your design. I'm not trying to beat you up but I've been in the architectural design and residential construction industry for 30 years.
Hey Ana, Merry Chritmas to you and the fam :) Why didn't you turn the gates around, so that if the baby pushed those slats that you said were a weak point, she'd be pushing against the top and bottom wood, instead of relying on the glue and nails?
This is a awesome channel, Merry Christmas White family. I think you guys looked at my channel thank you for checking it out only reason i know that is because i see someone in Alaska looked at my page me and my boys are trying to do it together it is fun just have to find time to do it with them. God bless

Merry Christmas - Can't believe that Everly is crawling and getting around in her walker. Cute!
Must keep that bundle of joy safe! Have a wonderful Holiday.

needed this 10 years, 6 kids ago! WRAP THE WOOD... We sure didn't think of that. And now it is time for our gate to come down... ~ Danya
I think your baby gates are much nicer than usual metal/plastic baby gates.
Merry Christmas & a Prosperous& healthy New Year.
It’s definitely an upgrade! Merry Christmas!
@@AnaWhiteDIY I live in a bungalow and my grandchildren are over 5 so dont need them anymore. I will tell my friends of your plans. Xx

love it! menopausal me will have to wait for grandbabies!
Merry Christmas. That was a creative way to save the beams
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year White Family. Also Happy Birthday Grace. My birthday is also during the holiday season, December 25th actually.
Protect the precious cargo, the baby 👶👶👶 happy holidays 🐿🐿🐿🐥🐥🐥
Hi guys...great idea and planning on the baby gate.....Merry Christmas & Happy New Year....
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Ingenious workaround to keep damaging those beautiful beams.
Hard to believe she is crawling already. Awesome gate!
Great project Ana! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas🎄 Anna and Family, Love your videos!
That looks perfect and it's American made !!
Merry Christmas !!
Happy Holidays! Hope your New year is the best yet!!
Merry Christmas to your beautiful family.
Wood conditioner works wonders if you do it before staining it makes the stain looks so much better and you don't have to do as much with it.
Very clever! Merry Christmas!🎄

They wanted them to be able to stay open in case they're coming up and down the stairs repeatedly, like bringing in groceries.
Merry christmas and may all your christmas 's be white, (sorry couldn't resist)
Great idea for a temporary item and not putting screws in the permanent post.
Not what I was looking for but really nice and simple idea I like it thumbs up
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎄🎄🎉🎉
Merry Christmas, and happy birthday!

Bravo. Very good solution. And/or a self closing spring that goes across them both.

Everly is crawling already? It was just a grill a few videos ago! The N/I workshop is really popping. Grey is the new worshop must do.

Nice, how are they working out??
Merry Cristmas and a youful new year!
I don't know if baby gates have ever looked nicer!
Merry Christmas White Family🎄🎄🎅🎅
Thanks for the great year.
Merry Christmas to you guys :)
What if you put the bungee from one gate to the other behind the middle post?
Does it matter if you decide to stain your lumber before you put it together, or is it preferable to wait until the project is put together?
Happy New Year!
Loved the project!! Where did you get your stockings that were on the mantel?
Merry Christmas
First off, Merry Christmas! These gates transition well into doggie gates, too.
It's a beautiful gate, and a clever design for your stairwell, however the slats should be LESS than 3" apart.
The part y’all built to “wrap” on the beams to lessen the screw/nail damage to them, how did y’all do that?? Did y’all mail gun them to the beams? Then screwed the hinges onto that?

Do you have to use a mask with the Varathane stain?

Did you build a crib?
Is it safe to sleep with high blood sugar?
Is that a nail gun?

Merry Christmas!
Good job 👏 guys
Thanks for watching!

✨Happy Holidays!✨
Happy Holidays...
We're trying to get one installed now. Your video is a great help. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Make it tall cause kids can throw themselves right on over and Merry Christmas
Exactly what I was thinking lol 🤦🏼♀️

Your subscription thing is not working
Good job
Thanks
Very good.
These gates look more dangerous than no gates at all. They should be twice as tall, the height of the post between them.
Merry Christmas from Canada 🇨🇦🤗
Could make a cube version, but it might be frowned upon by the law
Merry Christmad to the Whites. Be safe. Blessings.
