      I give coach Zahabi all the credit in the world for being fact-based in his analysis. Based on watching video of Edmond fighting, coach Zahabi concludes that Edmond has greater boxing knowledge than many people are giving him credit for. It's possible that Edmond could be a terrible coach despite that, but coach Zahabi abstains from offering that conclusion because he doesn't have enough evidence about how Edmond coaches.

    This isn't difficult. Yes, it's absolutely her coaches' fault. All of them.
    They should have seen all that coming in the Holmes fight. You don't charge straight in on an accomplished striker.
    When you're on the ground, you don't go for the submission right away. You be patient, improve your position, and create an opportunity. The same applies for the clinch. Rhonda tried for throws as soon as she put her hands on Rhonda and got stuffed, instead of being patient and waiting for the opening.
    With Holmes, Rhonda never changed levels, feinted, or anything to disguise her closing attempts. This didn't change with Amanda.
    Fighters don't always catch on to this, but any coach that doesn't should be fired.
    And don't get me started on Rhonda.

      Yeah true but I think the question is if she's been being trained for years by a boxer coach why isn't she improving is the main question when she works with lots of strikers but I think she is too comfortable with judo and not striking

    • @Disinfo321

      I heard she doesnt shoot due to a knee injury, which is what i was told when i asked

    • @lukeism2
      @lukeism2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kyle Hulse Dominick Cruz has crazy movement and shoots for singles and doubles and he's had the worst kind of knee and leg injuries.. gsp has tore both acl's and his doubles are awesome. Ronda hasn't had anything remotely close to that so she can definitely grab a leg or two to make them sprawl.

    • @NoToBigBro
      @NoToBigBro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If Ronda isn't doing what she has to do because she is afraid of getting kneed or kicked, then she isn't a fighter. Risk of getting kicked and kneed applies to every fighter, including GSP and Demian Maia. I really don't think that is the reason. I think she was very successful the way she had been fighting so didn't see the need to change. Now that it's been confirmed twice that she needs to make changes, I hope she sticks around to show that she can change.

    • @NoToBigBro
      @NoToBigBro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I can't believe she managed to stay on her feet after the pounding she got. Every other female MMA fighter would have hit the floor long before that.

    Deadmond may be an accomplished striker but it does not mean he is able to impart his knowledge. Now Ronda has two devastating losses, with no evolution or adjustments in game plan, skills or attitude.
    Ronda did not even spar in preparation for this fight.
    If the techniques are not ingrained then it falls on deadmond for lack of preparation.
    Appalling.

  • @Kokujin43
    @Kokujin43 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Coach Zahabi, I wouldnt go as far as to call Coach Edmond incompetent or such...but you have another fighter in his gym who also seems to have devolved and that is Travis Browne. And he was actually a good striker under JacksonWink MMA gym.
    Is this a matter of lacking other good fighters inside the gym to liftt the competitive level?
    is this a situation where a fighter is pampered and not challenged enough trough sparring?
    I'm willing to bet that she doesn't even spar...

    It's hard to know why Ronda came out the way she did. My impression was that she froze when she got hit hard again. She didn't have an exit plan (takedown, clinch, move away). Was it because they didn't prepare for this, was it because she didn't listen to her coach, was it because she broke mentally when she got hit again, was it because she didn't have the abilities to move around/move away from those punches? I'm no expert. You make good points coach!

    • @gratiaxantos9309
      @gratiaxantos9309 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ronda Rousey definitely froze after getting tagged in the face but that is the wrong stage to be getting panicked and freezing she been in the combat sport for years now, *freezing ain't acceptable* that whole year she didn't train her chin for blows or some footwork she was on a world stage she should have gone for a double leg takedown it cost her a belt.

    Your advice at 18:33 is SPOT ON! First of all, I'm not a fighter...but I have played basketball for many years. I've always used newer, less experienced ball players to try "NEW" moves on until I have them perfected...then it's much easier to use those moves against the better, more experienced players. I ALWAYS test new moves, strategies on less experienced players. I figure if it doesn't work against a newbie, it'll never work against an experienced player. Also, new players help me develop counters to some of my old moves...same reasoning.

    As far as grappling is concerned, freestyle wrestling takedowns are more compatible with peek a boo boxing, because of bobbing and weaving (slipping and ducking under a punch to takedown - safely closing the distance like Tyson who is short).
    Judo is more compatible with Muay Thai, because of the hips (Nak Muays understand center of gravity and leveraging the hips while throwing kicks and working in the clinch) and the head grab in the clinch (Battle for hand position in clinch). If you are a Muay Khao (a knee specialist), you'd probably be a master in safely closing the distance into a head clinch.
    That said, Ronda has a body shape that is quite incompatible with Muay Thai, but more compatible with boxing... But I still think Ronda would do well to study Muay Thai over boxing when it comes to striking. The problem is: it takes time to acquire those skills.
    Just my personal opinion.

    People should stop blaming her coach. Ronda needs to get her mind straight. The media and fans had her believing she was Billy Badass and she never was. She had the right look and attitude to get attention and that aided her rise. The biggest problem is her EGO, and she was successful for all the wrong reasons. She was a decent athlete and fought at the onset of women in UFC. She rarely fought anyone on her level. You can also tell that Ronda wants to do things her way and can't take criticism. That's a bad thing when you suck at boxing and fighting. She didn't improve because she still hasn't accepted that she can't fight. Her attitude isn't even that of a fighter/champion.

  • @vladimirsa4245
    @vladimirsa4245 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a guy. And I don't understand why so many guys are mad at Ronda regarding Cain and Floyd comments? I was watching those interviews and I forgot about them next day. First of all, she didn't ask to fight Cain or something. Media were asking her questions "can you beat that girl, can you beat that guy" and her answer was as polite as possible "I can beat anyone under certain circumstances" . Secondly, to think about such stuff and to discuss the same as to discuss who win a fight Cougar vs Shark or Conor vs Kratos, all cases don't make sense and never happen. I would never imagine her words could trigger so many guys.
    Regarding hype and Ronda. First of all, she won 16 fights (including amateur fights) in a row, 15 of in the first round. She always was fighting the best available fighters and she won against 3 fighters who was able to beat Amanda. So I wouldn't say Ronda was overhyped or something. Fighters like Amanda were training specifically against Ronda for years, and let's be honest not many of us would have good chances if elite team of your opponent knows and works against your set of skills for such a long time. Ronda could win that fight against Amanda, she was closer than you might think, 1 clinch and its game over for her opponent.
    Even considering Ronda had some hype, why it makes so many haters? She moved UFC to another level of popularity and she was smart enough to make millions in that sport. Most of the fighters can only dream about it.

    The issue is that, the 'praise man' in Ronda's case is mainly her head coach. There are video of her sparring with pro boxers who carry her and never put real pressure, then Edmond spouts how she gives world champion boxers a hard time. You cannot say that Ronda should accurately assess her sparring and tailor her gameplan around her shortcomings, and put no blame on the coaching. The coach is there to be the objective eye, not Ronda herself. Who else would she listen to, if not her head coach?

    The talk about praise is great. "The good things take care of themselves." I don't want a coach telling me the good things I've done; I want a coach to tell me what's wrong.

    When I read the comments seeing people talking about Edmond saying, "move your head" that is true, he did say it, however, if he isn't training her to move her head, move those feet, keeping her guard up then you won't do it. That's why I feel like he failed. I've seen his videos and he's ok as a striker but not enough to coach someone at the level she is going, if not leave Edmond at the least bring in different coaches or go to different striking gyms. I don't believe she can't strike, but I do believe she needs to focus harder on it because she's got the work ethic and she's had years in Judo so lets get at least some solid months. The biggest thing I find failed her was the massive amount of time she wasn't training, and when she chose to come back she didn't fight at the lower ranks to work up to the championship. She came in at a low where Nunes was coming in on a high with consistent training. I'm not a fan of Edmond...not as bad as Ronda's mom, but still not a fan so take my thoughts about him with a grain of salt. I appreciate your videos and your professionalism, if I lived in Canada I would like to think you and I would be having lunches together as colleges. We have like mindsets so its refreshing to hear.

      Khabib has much better head movement, footwork and level changing abilities than Honda. Additionally, he know how to shoot and get takedowns on opponents who don't want to be taken down. With that said, an exceptional defensive striker could possible cause big problems for him. Conor anybody? Time will tell.

    Being a judo practitioner for several years, I respect Ronda Rousey for breaking open the UFC for female fighters and making fans recognize that judo is also effective in MMA. Although I respect her grappling skills and her willingness to fight I could never accept her arrogance. I knew she would eventually lose and not just lose, but get whipped in a bad way. I also believe what Ali said about true champions getting knocked down but always getting back up to retain their titles. Most of us were sold (me included) a bill of goods about Rousey's dominance in the beginning not realizing that her adoring media based her God-like abilities on only four fights. Eventually, truth always comes to light as it did in this case. When Rousey was crowned the best female athlete for that particular year, most of us didn't even notice that Serena Williams had won every single major tournament of that year. Shame on me, shame on us.

    Firas, you're twisting Ronda's words terribly. She never said that she could beat Cain, or men's bantamweights for that matter. She was speaking theoretically, in a theory-specific conversation. Here's the quote:
    "I never say that I'm incapable of beating anybody, because I don't believe in putting limits on myself,. So I mean, I would have to say if you're just talking about what's in the realm of possibility of what's possible of who I could beat, well I could beat 100 percent of them. You can't tell me that there's a zero percent chance that I can beat anyone on the planet, so I'm never gonna say that."
    Theoretically, she's correct. Practical considerations are not being considered in the conversation that she was having.
