I adore the original Rodan and have wanted to see the character get Justice ever since. And I love your take on how he could thematically tie in to a minus one sequel!

    Godzilla Minus One vs. Hedorah
Think about it. Hedorah's whole thing is that it was a sludge-pollution monster. It could be a niche and refreshing critique on either A) the environmental impact of nuclear testing
    B) it could be put in present day with a large/more powerful godzilla that fights a newly born Hedorah. that would certainly be exciting.
Or if -1.0 migrated and fough Ebirah! Or if that brought back Destroyah and he wasn't outshined by the death of Godzilla. You could really flesh his character out, as well as his death. I'd be SO excited to have Destoroyah

I like the rodan idea, but I have an idea of my own.
Anguirus. He would be perfect fitting in to the post kaiju, dinosaur thing. He just makes since in that matter. I heard a theory that Godzilla got mixed up in operation crossroads and was there because the sensed another monster (like how that how they lured Godzilla in operation Wada Tsumi) if that would be the case, pre kaiju Anguirus might have also got effected. He would also be a good metaphor for Japan being caught in the middle of the Cold War and struggling because of that. Godzilla minus one felt like a reboot of 1954, it would make sense for the sequel to be a rehash of raids again this featuring Anguirus
There is also a really popular theory that Biollante because of the mark on the back of girls neck shaped like one of Godzillas dorsals. Biollante was made by mixed human and Godzillas cells together and that could mean Biollante could get created.
Although if any kaiju were to fight Godzilla, it would realistically be another Godzilla. Maybe a peice of Godzilla grows independent after the final battle and regenerates on its own not with the main body. That would also mirror the Cold War metaphor with Godzilla vs Anguirus. Besides that,I don’t know what other kaiju would fight (if any)

Yeah, Anguirus would be pretty fitting but I do kinda wonder about them staking so much on a "Raids Again remake".
Biollante would be fun since even the actress joked that she might be the one stomping around and destroying everything in the next movie, so what would be an incredible curveball is if this was an elaborate set up to them finally realizing the "Bride of Godzilla?" plot lol

@@IgKnightedSpark Oh my god, yes!! Biollante with a brand new design team behind her updated with modern VFX would be nothing short of genre-defining. I hope they do that.

I'd be shocked if he actually did fight another monster.
Outside of anime and shorts, Toho seem weirdly reluctant to do that again.

Yeah, likewise. Especially if it's a sequel to Minus One, I think they'd have to know by now that getting careless with that kind of thing messes up the story.
But I also feel like it has to be possible to do it well and that in a mainline movie, Japan is overdue another shot at a VS movie.

Honestly, I like all the ideas this video placed on the table. I feel like trying to make a kaiju vs kaiju movie with the same depth, complexity and thematic elements as Godzilla Minus One is an incredibly hard task to pull off.
Personally, I don’t mind which route the sequel will take, whether there will be another monster or not. As long as it’s done well and still feels like it’s set in the same universe as Godzilla Minus One. (Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla is obviously not the way to go). But Rodan has huge potential!

If they don't call the sequel Godzilla minus 2 that's just a missed opportunity

    (Huge spoilers)
I'm HEAVILY surprised you didn't say Biolante. I think Biolante could be GREAT for Minus two for these reasons :
    - Biolante was a creature born from grief. Godzilla meant to be a giant of humanity's grief, Biolante is a giant monster of grief made from a scientist who tried to reassurect his daughter or wife(i forgot) so it touches on the human aspect well
    2. Maybe the human who makes Biolante could be a great antagonist that somewhat mirrors Minus One's main character darkest side when going through grief. Or in other words, remember how Minus One was in a way about trying to rebuild a life after tragedy and the main character changed his mind from self unaliving in the end because he learned to try handle his grief over his kind of wife who he thought was dead to stay alive for his child? Well maybe the man who makes Biolante is a dark reflection alternate. Like he also loses someone because of the war but unlike the main character of minus one, doesn't try to rebuild his life from that grief and makes Biolante unintentionally as a result of him not learning to let go. And maybe he has some conflict with the minus one character or not. But maybe in the end learns to let her go and like the original it's implied her spirit is inside Biolante and he redeems himself through helping learning to destroy the monster (which represents his grief) instead of trying to hold onto it. Or maybe even an entirely different story. In short I just think Biolante is great because its made of a human issue.

Ya know, it actually didn't cross my mind until people like you in the comments brought it up but I agree, that's actually a phenomenal idea!
I mean jokes from even the actress who plays Noriko aside, it would be fitting as maybe a commentary on humanity not learning from their mistakes (kinda like how the original ended with a somewhat hopeful message from creators who hoped the events that ended WW2 AND the Lucky Dragon/H-Bomb incident would be the last of nuclear weapons and...well.) but as well, kinda like you said, a representation of the human struggle and being unable to cope with loss/how that kind of trauma can change a person.
Biollante is also certainly due for another movie appearance so here's hoping, even if the next movie isn't a Minus One sequel!

RODAN. Considering that Minus One gave us SUCH. A faithful take on the original Godzilla, I would LOVE to see a similarly traditional-yet-frightening take on my favorite monster, Rodan

Hell yeah! It's about time Rodan gets a little bit more love. For cryin' out loud, he was a headliner right after Godzilla!

I would definitely love to see Bagan as the villain in the sequel. He needs to be in at least one Godzilla movie in my lifetime. Plus, Bagan seems like he would be the perfect counter to this version of Godzilla. Think about it, to combat Godzilla’s constant regeneration and destructive atomic breath, Bagan would have to constantly evolve and adapt throughout the film in order to combat Godzilla leading to a final epic clash between the two. Plus, there would be a lot of symbolism in there as if Godzilla represents a Government’s need to constantly use destructive force even though it causes pain, Bagan would represent a Government’s need to constantly adapt and innovate on new destructive forces to combat an enemy.

Bagan showing up in a movie has definitely been a long time coming, especially since Godziban made a whole-ass special/human sized puppet featuring him.

  • @snodog00
    @snodog00 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'm not so sure Godzilla Minus One is set up well for a kaiju v kaiju fight. Just thinking of another monster tanking a single shot of his Atomic Breath is... a little hard to do. I think a whole new monster would be the best choice. Something equally as broken and devistating.

    • @IgKnightedSpark
      @IgKnightedSpark  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well by that logic, a take two on Orga would be appropriate but again…Aliens would definitely be jumping the shark in Minus One’s universe, so he’d need a new origin.

Godzilla cannot become some good guy by the end of the film he has to be destroyed or at-least seem to be he cannot become some antihero lesser of two evils because that shits all over the first film.
We obviously also can’t have the other monster that isn’t Godzilla be a good guy or the lesser of two evils antihero since that also shits in the theme.
So what do end up with ? Two villains in the same movie that do the exact same thing just eating each-others screen time. God forbid they do a “let them fight” as having the humans just surrender their fate to two monsters during it out also shits on the theme.
The only way in hell this works in some way is the monsters are Pulled towards each other via human intervention then once in the same location both killed via some human effort.
But even then it’s messy just how much time can be dedicated to two monsters doing the exact same thing and also have a fight that has to end in a draw or the winner getting linked by humans will be unsatisfying.
I can already hear the complaints “they didn’t even get to fight for very long” “the fight was unsatisfying they didn’t even show who won”

Friend, if there are two monsters, they will put them both to fight
If they make them both villains, the sequel will literally be the first film with an extra monster.
