  • When leads are improving in the great expanse that it "intermediate" level and even into "advanced", we can focus on the wrong things. Let's not, and get more dances! As simple as 1, 2, 3... it comes down to using (1) simple turns to allow the follow to exhibit her (2) body movement and (3) styling.
The Casino Level 1 Digital Course focuses heavily on these areas, and with promo code 2023, you can get it right now for just $49.

In the final analysis , what counts is how you perform on the dance floor .. and if with this theory of simple turns etc , your performance is substandard , then you have to change your THEORY .....
I have seen many teachers who teach, but will never dance a free dance on the dqance floor with anyone ... and that to me means they are fake teachers ....
If you teach , you should be the first one to demonstrate what you teach in a real world environment ...otherwise you are fake. You can't practise what you preach ...
Anyone can be a teacher , anyone can claim to be a teacher ... but the true dancer shows himself on the dance floor ...

In the free world of partner dances , dancers don't dance the same ....
Casino is not rueda ... They are related but they are not the same...
And that is why followers should dance with as many different partners as possible, so that they learn and experience the differenet dance styles of the different dancers ...
Followers should not complain about the way a dancer dances , or demand that he change the way he dances to suit them .... They should strive to follow whoever is leading them ... and that's why they are followers .... they follow ....
And if they cannot follow because all they know are simple turns from their school/teacher , they can sit down and wait for dancers that are limited to simple turns ....

@@pfavayi This kind of old fashioned mentality is exactly why salsa, but even more so casino, is losing the battle to (sensual) bachata. Casino would have become a dead dance (even in Cuba) if it hadn't evolved in letting more space for the follower to be stylish and free. Casino is already very lead centric at its core and when you look at some videos it clearly looks like the follower is just there to give the lead a chance to shine. But let's face it, followers are 9,99 times out of 10 women, and leads mostly men, and that is one of the reasons why women tend to like sensual bachata more : there they are the queen of the dance floor (while men tend to look like shit). Same for line salsa. If "Cuban salsa" is more trendy than before it's because thanks to despelote and sueltas women have been able to have more space and feel more creative themselves. Macho attitude is never going to cut it. Doesn't mean followers shouldn't behave as such.

That was hilarious!!!! I totally agree with your points. And yes, there is love-hate all in 3 min.
Granted, it is hard to gain skill of a danceleader. Hard to get aware of , and to keep the shaping. When a leader gains the mastery, a new world opens for both. Love your lessons, Sir.

Learning both roles teaches this fast and might only way to get it through to leaders honestly.

I cannot agree more on what you are saying. Mater of fact, anyone who does not understand what you are saying here, still have a long road to go to become a popular dancer.
I am teaching Kizomba but I have danced Salsa for at least 20 years. I believe what makes me popular in the dance floor is making the dance as easy as possible and little bit of humor. last but not the least connecting with my dance partner. When I am connected with my partner then I feel at once when I have to stop doing any uncomfortable move and when I can take my moves to the next level. When I see my partner having fun and laughing I know I am doing things right because that what is count for me :)
Thanks mate for all your efforts to make those funny educational videos HIHI

What you say is very true, I have seen how many students when they start in the world of the casino, that when it comes to social dancing they tend to do many turns, pirouettes and very complex figures, which do not go according to the time or the interpretation of the music (I was one of them at some point). And of course it is normal, that one wants to show off and more if you are learning something new that you like, but it is true. Many dancers forget that the important thing is to enjoy the music and not dance as if they were in the middle of an aerobics class and that the person they do it with also enjoys it a lot.

Couldn't agree more and your video makes this important point in a clear and friendly way, thank you :) As a female leader (and follower) I definitely agree that, whilst really fun for the leader, fancy noodling is not what makes a great dance with your partner - it is the connection and vibes and compassionate dancing. We also get dizzy sometimes!!

You can't complain about the advanced dance when you can't follow ....You can't say dribbling in basket ball is bad when you can;t do it ... or cocking like a master chef is a was of time when you can barely cock .... Just limit yourself to the people who can dance at our level and don't complain about higher levels you cannot do ....and that is why a bigginer cannot complain that advanced level dancing is not necessary when they cannot do it ...

Great vid. My non dancing life partner laughed her ass off at the last bit with the woman. Increasingly I do a hell of a lot less on the dance floor in a song (mostly linear). I'm getting more compliments. I do casino as well but I'm not as good, so my moves are simple anyways. Lots of paseala, caminala and paso Son (and the danzon step).

TOTALLY TRUE, but also “advanced leads” forget how did they start and then don’t want to dance with “beginner or intermediate” followers. They are too much for them to “lower” their options.

For me if the lead is doing too many complicated turns and nudos I get the impression that is more about impressing the people around rather than dancing together. Here in Germany many advanced dancers try to look more cuban than the Cubans and often dance for the spectators and with zero sensitivity towards the person they are dancing with to the point where they give even an advanced dancer the feeling they are not good enough of not supporting their "solo show" accordingly. 😉🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

From my perspective, as beginner intermediate follow, I am really looking for that next level, which for me is: expressing musicality in the pair and a chance to see if I can pull off something ‘cute’- either sola or juntos. You know, a cute dile que no. I love a rodeio and like when it is used cleverly (change the hand holds, for example). I do find some of the complicated moves fun- esp if I can smoothly follow it. But if we aren’t ‘connected’ to do like- setenta even, how can we go pretzel with any grace.
There’s a local fellow- who can throw down some fun surprises, but I’ll say that amongst the ladies (despite being handsome) he isn’t the most popular lead and ladies think he’s a little arrogant bc he isn’t ‘listening’. I do enjoy at least one dance with him- it’s like a test of my follow ability. But I will choose a lead I can enjoy for the second, third dances. I’m pretty sure Mr Fancy Pants doesn’t want to dance with me too often either because I am not young or ‘hot’ so no one is getting their feelings hurt. But I do sorta wonder if he feels very ‘welcome’ at a social, not just him, other leads like that.
This is long I realize but let me say this- it’s rare to have a lady lead who does a ton of pretzels 🥨 just saying. 🤔

A lot of times i see people
Doing tons of fancy double handed turns but they don’t even look like they’re having fun. But more importantly, it’s like they’re not even feeling the music or “dancing” it looks like they’re doing choreographed steps instead of actually feeling the music and dancing to it. But maybe I’m just being a hater cause my two hand turns are limited right now ; )
Working on my Kentucky complicado though. Once i get that one down, it’s a wrap. lol
