I have been working on replacing the timing chain and guides now for a few weeks and have gotten it almost back together already. I was going to video tape this and post it but thought maybe it was already on the net. It's a lot of work but oh so worth it. Love my 2001 BMW X5 4.4i.

Hi bimmermerchant: My voltage test (test #9), before starting the car it is 11.8-11.9v. Car idling is 13.5v. Driving without load = 13.8-13.9v. With load (high beam on) is 13.5v. Do you think there is problem? I am concerning that 11.8-11.9v before cracking may be too low. But battery testing is good under 2001 X5 trunk but bad at front auxiliary posts. When idle, voltage on the front auxiliary posts is 14.5v with ripple 55mv when idling.
I am currently suffering 'Trans Failsafe Prog." on dash board. Want to eliminate battery or alternator problem.
Any suggestions?

the first number (49.1l) is the level of the fuel for normal use , the second number (24l) is the level of the reserve fuel ( if the level drops below that 24l your reservelight on the gauge will go on) , the third number (71l) is the total fuel in the tank , if a number is 0 or not given then your sensor doesnt work .

I have a 2001 X5 I need to reset after changing the battery. The instrument cluster only has one button on the right side. How do I work the computer with only the one button?

Can you tell me if there is a test function using the cluster to diagnose ABS Sensor problem? In other words one that will identify a faulty ABS Sensor because the ABS & DSC lights are on. Thank you.

2006 x5 3.0i e36 m46, get a P0460 and P0461 codes this week. Fuel Level Sensor CKT Malfunction and Fuel Sensor CKT Range/Perf, says my scan tool. My fuel gauge reads a constant 0 gals, even if I add gas. Any thoughts?

I have an almost identical looking cluster on my 2002 530i (e39 chasis). I am DESPERATELY trying to figure out how to use the dash computer. When I hit the b/c button on my blinker stick, it goes through some functions like date, time, mpg, timer, and other great things.
But I cannot figure out how to change these values! for example, if I hit the button until it goes to 'date' I cannot figure out how to set the date! (currently it is --/--/2014) or time or stopwatch (what a cool feature!)

Hi! bimmer merchant. I have been watching your service online the problems I have with my transfer case, I changed my transfer case gear on 2006 x5 4.4i. the 4x4! caution light still stayed on. the ABS is gone, just the 4x4 light never disparate, in that case, what should I do to make it goes away.

Turn the steering wheel all the way left and then right until it goes off. Really simple.

Those 3 beeps are an alarm. Next time it happens check the time, take note it shud do it at exactly the same time every day. You have to go into your stereo touch screen to reset it.

Im having an issue with my 06 X5 3.0.
On the cluster only the speedo, MPG and temp gauge's are working. They're all lit up but only those work. Also all of the bottom light are off I cant see the Odometer,Temp, etc.

Turn key to position 2 before cranking. Press gas pedal for 30 seconds. Then start your car. The message will go away.

if your X5 doesn't start, then you might need another DME. When you insert key and no sound is heard, that means that key is not sync with ews and dme.

On occasion, my 2006 X5 4.4 instrument panel lights reads: 4X4 / Brake / ABS lights stay on.... why-what and how can I dismiss this? Should I be worried that these lights come on????
Can't tell you why this is happening with your X5. We haven't experienced that issue. Search for a reputable independent bmw shop in your are and have them scan your bmw for fault codes. Might be your ABS module.

If you put a another cluster, you will need to have it recoded. Otherwise you will get some lights on your dash to appear such as traction control light

No problem.
The -40 was your ambient temperature. It's reading -40 because the sensor is missing or the wires are torn. Most the info is really available without needing to go through the test mode.
Thanks for your feedback. Im sure there are many other ways to get information without the test function, could you share some of those ways?? In the meantime, hope everyone else takes the easy way and just use your cluster to get info.
Well all the info that was being covered in the test mode is in information panel that is in the cluster. Such as the Ambient Temp, RPM's, ect. VIN is physically on the car. I'm just saying that I don't know what that is there for.

A faulty transmission or bad alternator not producing the required voltage will cause the "trans fail safe mode" You can't just delete the message

Hey, this past week been troubleshooting a constant 4x4 light in same vehicle this week that came on. Hey post what you find if any. When the floods stop on the east coast i will look at the plastic gear on the actuator on side of transfer case. I may just order one on amazon prime about 20 bucks. replace mine it has lots of moles anyways.

a bad alternator could cause that. However, in most cases, you will need to replace your transmission.
@@bimmermerchant ok ok I was about to go change my abs module.. this is exactly what happens on my x5 it's a 2003 4.4 when I 1st bought it it was flawless I was able to go 145mph like nothing after about 2 months the trifecta2of lights came on yellow brake light and the triangle I was wondering if all the lights affected the way the car drove so I decided to punch the gas on it and see 4 myself suddenly attempting to pass 80mph it goes into this trans failsafe mode It then stay stuck in 4th gear and I have to pull over and turn off the car and restart it . But it's weird cause right now if I go turn it on itbwill be like new with no lights on and I can go 145 on the freeway with out failsafe turning on.
Everything turn on except the vehicle like if not reading the key Everything turn on though

1. on radio head unit press the button the right with the clock symbol 🕗.
2. press the + - buttons to set hrs. press the + - buttons to set mins.
3. press the set button to finish up.
all set. I had to do this when I disconnected and reconnected the bsttery cable to do some work on the vehicle.

How to reset the service due on a 2010 x5
Actually the 6th code fuction shows the left and right side of the fuel tank and then it tell you the total amount of gas in liters on the far right which is the 3rd and last set of numbers. The bmw fuel tank has sensors for the left side and the right side. Just thought id let you know so you dont sound like your bullshitting people. Lol
