Characteristics of a good consultant: Know that you don't know

Our characteristics define us in the minds of others
There will always be things we don't know ... but there will also be those who don't know that they don't know. This is often maturity, but also sometimes a personality trait that isn't the best for a consultant who needs to influence
The smartest consultants/leaders I have met are mindful of the 'unknown knowns' in their organisations. These are the things that others know, but we don't know. This could be as simple but as important as what colleagues think of us.
All the caps, gowns and experience in the world doesn't mean our personalities make us good communicators and influencers. Being humble, knowing that we don't aways know, and being self-aware of how we come across to others is a positive characteristic shared by all successful consultants
