Rublev absolutely destroys the ball in practice and in matches, relying lots on racket head speed... That can be a bad thing as he tends to only go all out on his shots, not adding variation and expending alot of energy. But it takes an incredible talent to be able to maintain the intensity as he does!

Well, honestly Rublev's forehand wasn't this good before. It was powerful for sure, but not this level. He switched to a goddamn heavy racket, which gives him an insane amount of weight behind his swings. That's the reason for his increased power.

Alcaraz looks like the real deal, amazing at 17, young Rafa like composure and power.
Rublev is must see TV. So unique in his fire power.
Rublev's ability to easily hit with so much power reminds me of Berdych in his prime. Effortless technique and insane average ball speed. Amazing.
True, but I would say Sinner reminds me even more of Berdych in some ways. They even sort of look alike! When Berdych had his game going, he could hit anyone off the court. I'll never forget the time he blew out Delpo in Tokyo.
@@dl3988 I never saw this comment. Sinner (and even Rublev) seems to me have a loose technique. Berdych's strokes were more about great ball contact and optimal swing. Anyway, regarding playstyle, is easy to see the similarities.
Wow, every time I watch pros rally, I'm always super impressed by their footwork and how quickly they prepare for their shots
God damn, Alcaraz is only 17 and killing it on the tour but he clearly has a ways to go to match a top 10 level like Rublev shows here. Unreal consistent power from Rublev

Of course Rublev has crazy powerful groundstrokes (especially the forehand) but here it is of course a little biased because the camera is on this side (with Alcaraz), so it seems the balls Rublev is hitting are going faster.

@@RasmusM21 there is a concept called time and improving from January to September. Such a growth curve is not uncommon in prodigies like Alcaraz

@@claus1225 Because Djokovic's technique has a lot of spin and rublev hits relatively flat. So I get your point, but you cant compare the two
@@claus1225 It all depends on what he's working on. Sometimes during practice you're working on consistency, other times you're working on power, other times you're working on approach shots etc...If you watch his other practices, he's not always hitting at 90%.

The speed of Rublev's forehand is even more insane from court level. I thought it was fast from top view but damn is it fast from court level. Does he have some anger management issues? How the hell is he pummeling so many balls like its his worst enemy's face on each of them? He seems to be just lashing out at the ball. Maybe I should try it one day too.

I can't think of a worse practice partner than Rublev...his ball is low, heavy, and deep....not too mention he crushes every ball It takes other worldly timing and impeccable footwork to get anything out of this.

doesn't that make the perfect practice partner? if they weren't wanting to challenge themselves theyd just hit again a brick wall, it's easier.. these practices of pro vs pro are totally invaluable to them. now Carlos knows how it feels to face Rublev without it being an important match.. he knows he just needs to get the ball back and wait for Rublev to do an unforced error from wailing too hard, lol.

Fun side fact: the guy coaching Carlos Alcaraz is none other than the great former pro whose play Rublev resembles most (and who inspired many a Spaniard, like David Ferrer): Juan Carlos Ferrero (also known for how early he took the ball, especially on his feared forehand side).

why the heck can't the TV broadcasts use this camera perspective during the rallies? it's so much more engaging and exciting. i'm tired of watching broadcasts where the camera is 500 feet in the air and the entire court takes up only half of the screen, and the players are so small.
The tournaments decide on the cameras and their main concern seems to be that all the advertising is visible at all times. I think they have probably made tennis about half as popular as it would otherwise be.

Rublev is fantastic and a lot of fun to watch, but after watching Miami it became quite clear that when he's on the receiving end of pace , as he was against Korda, his one mode attack style tennis fails him. If he wants to beat high ranked guns of tennis, he is going to need variety on that forehand.

Is it me or after 1:45 Alcaraz altered his forehand, looping more (racket drop), having a full swing with less wrist manipulation almost mirroring Rublev's forehand ?
It's a response according to the ball that is coming towards you. Is it heavy paced and deep than you automatically shorten your backswing and often don't follow through to the neck.
Wonder what a practice session between Rublev and Almagro... Gonzo... Safin... and prime Agassi would have looked like.
