Another great one. I like the small portions because we eat at least 5 times a day. Trying to stay healthy and alive. Menu view and subtitles are genius and just wonderful.
Thank you! Happy to hear that menus & subtitles are useful! 😊 The smaller portions is a great way to sample different food without getting too full already!
We actually really appreciated the fact that you took your time with each dish. My husband however did finally say “she covers her mouth a lot”. We all have different mannerisms. I thought she did a good job. Don’t be afraid to say “this is not good at all”, or “this is tasteless”.
Will do- thank you for your feedback! 😊
What a refreshing series of videos, ~ you both are amazing and are in your element, making these so enjoyable. Thank you for your time. Happy Sailing and eating
Thank you so much- glad you enjoyed them!! 😊
Yum! I like your descriptions of the various tastes and dishes.. An enjoyable vicarious feast!
Thank you! 😊 Lots of great dishes in this one! 😋
Your videos are great! It’s nice how your present things slowly and then you have some great commentary. Keep up the good work.
We appreciate that- thank you very much! 😊 A lot more to come!
“I don’t know how you’d get full from this” is the question I keep asking. Portions tend to be very nicely plated but very dainty. I’d need three of each course to have my appetite satisfied… or a post-dinner visit to the buffet. 😂
I agree with you. The portion sizes should be for birds. lol!
G you want to see toddler sized portions try Holland America! Even on the buffet, where you can’t help yourself even for a pat of butter or ketchup, portions are what you would serve a two year old!
I actually prefer the smaller portions. It means the food is more carefully prepared and plated. It gives the diner the opportunity to sample different dishes without filling up on just one entree, and to choose if they want to order more, or to order another entree, or move on to the buffet, all while cutting down on food waste.
That is a normal portion size. You all eat too much. It is a cruise, you are pretty much eating all day long anyway. Most of the time you barely have enough room in your stomach for dinner. Your stomach is only the size of your fist, how much do you expect to shove in there in one sitting? Unless you are a body builder or sumo wrestler, normal people don't consume such huge portions in one sitting. Especially since you also get apps and soup/salad and dessert.
After breakfast, two lunches, a hamburger at the pool, and afternoon tea, how big a dinner do you want?? Do realize that the MDR is AYCE and you can order as much as you want. Usually, we order 3-4 apps, 2-3 entrees, and three desserts and we are more than satiated.
YAY! Always love seeing you in my notifications!! Your son (I'm sorry, I don't know his name) is getting SO big! He's a proper young man now! Tell Joanne I love those earrings on night 4 and lobster night, she looks so great in colorful accessories :) Keep up the great work
Yes the little guy is not so little anymore- he sure enjoys the cruise food lol. Thank you very much Casey for the nice comment, and the compliment on Joann's earrings! 😊
Love this video. Sometimeswhen Joanne doesn't really like a dish, she gets that grin on her face like a super villan. Mean that as a compliment. She is a delight. Keep it up. Bless you
Lol! Thank you very much Kathy! 😈
I didn’t care for the veal scallopine at Sabatini’s either. But their mushroom risotto was wonderful!
They did a good job on those risottos! 😋
My last trip on Grand princess seafood nite was on the open buffet on the last nite
they had mountains of peeled cold prawns garlic prawns half oven baked lobsters muscles
Some other seafood succulent lam cutlets melt in your mouth like icecream that was enough to make a pig of myself for people asking what nite you can have seafood every nite as long as you pay they have daily seafood nite serve in bucket big crab legs and others cost abt 30 per head
Holiday is spending lol
Nice video
While we didn't experience that (they had a seafood lunch buffet instead), that Seafood night you had on the Grand Princess sounded amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊 🦀
Love ❤️ you guys..Love Princess Cruises
Thank you very much Kathryn! 🥰
Beautiful! Thanks for the excellent video.
Our pleasure- glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much for the comment!😊
Thank you for sharing this. It's been a few years since we've been on Princess. We always enjoy dinner in the MDR although I steer away from any beef dishes, especially steak. The beef in the speciality restaurants is fantastic, but not so great in the MDR. Happy to see they still have their signature Fettuccini Alfredo! I get this appetizer size about half the time in the MDR.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah their steaks weren't the best, other than that fantastic filet mignon on lobster night. And yes that Fettuccini Alfredo was good! We liked it in the past too, so we were happy to try it again. They used to have in an a nest-like basket if I remember right.
Yes. Those Parmesan nesting baskets were the best! I think they eliminated them about 8 or 9 years ago.
Great to see you again. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you very much Angela! 😊 More to come soon!
I am loving your videos as I am getting ready for my first Princess Cruise. Will you be doing videos on the buffet for lunch and dinner? I liked seeing all the buffet options that you showed in the breakfast video.
Thank you very much! 😊 Yup we'll definitely be coming out with buffet videos for both lunch and dinner. The lunch one will be out first, hopefully in the next 3 or 4 days.
Yay part 2 all the food looks yummy as always keeping it honest 🥰
Yes some really delicious dishes in this one! Thank you very much Melanie for the comment! 🥰
I remember when the pandemic hit you cooked lobster at home. I loved that video.
Thanks for remembering that video Angela! We enjoyed eating those lobsters!😋
You're still going to cook it at home because unless you want to pay extra through the nose for it, you don't get lobster on Princess cruises. We did a 12 day cruise last month, December 2023, and there was no lobster, just a couple of awful prawn flavoured fish balls they had the cheek to call "prawn dumplings".
@@warpedweft9004 it even sounds nasty.
Love the content of your videos as I’m preparing for a Princess Cruise!!
My only critique is to find more ways to describe food, especially the dishes you like, beyond “very good”.
Best wishes on your future travels!
Thank you very much for watching & the feedback! 🙂 That's how we can improve in the future 👍
SALUDOS AMIGA ESPERO TE ENCUENTRES BIEN , MUCHOS EXITOS PARA TI Y TU FAMILIA 🖐
¡Muchas gracias a ti también! 😊
Thank you ❤
Our pleasure- thanks for the comment Susan! 🥰
Food looks great!
They had some really good dishes! 😋
What ship were you on? Always enjoy hearing your reviews of the food. Thhanks!
Thank you very much! 😊 This was from the Regal Princess.
There were several dishes that looked good to me. The shrimp and scallop dishes especially. Watching Joann try to hack her way through that huge steak was disappointing. I don’t even know what cut of meat that was. They call it a strip steak but I don’t think it’s a NY strip. 😳 I LOVED the way they presented the Baked Alaska as an individual dessert. Thanks for such a thorough presentation of these dinners. I’m looking forward to the next one! 😁
Yeah Princess had more seafood dishes than the other cruise lines we've been on since the pandemic, with several entrees with big scallops. Steak-wise they weren't as good vs Celebrity and HAL, though that filet mignon was superb, as was that Baked Alaska 😋 Thanks for the comment Sally! 😊
Another great video. It all looked familiar until you got to Day 6.
Thank you very much JL! 😊 Looking forward to hearing what you think with days 7 through 11 after I post part 3.
Sorry I came late to the party on this one. Aside from the eggplant, I can't think of anything in this video I would turn down. In the last couple of years, I tend to shy away from the strip steak, or New York steaks each cruise line offers in the MDR. They tend to be tough and rather disappointing. I remember when a New York steak was something at least kind of special. The shrimp, sexy-looking scallops and polenta look extremely appetizing. Oh, and I've been thinking about the Spaghetti Bolognese conundrum I've mentioned in a couple of previous videos. Joann always says it tastes too salty (can't remember which cruise line), and I cry every time. LOL. I think I solved the mystery of what makes it taste not all that great. Any legitimate Bolognese sauce always has whole cream added. I'm betting the kitchen chef doesn't know they're supposed to add whole cream. It mutes the saltiness, while preserving the flavor. Not that anybody cares, or that it's any big deal in the grand scheme of things, but if I ever encounter that myself, I will let the kitchen know. It's such a simple dish, but they should not get it wrong LOL. I love that Princess still does a lobster night! Is it all-you-can-eat?
~Scott 🤗
Hi Scott- thanks for sharing your thoughts on our Princess Cruises dinner video! 😊The shrimp, scallops and polenta had an excellent presentation for sure. And yeah that sounds like a good tip to the kitchen staff- adding whole cream should balance out the saltiness and improve the flavor for the Bolognese. Oh yeah lobster night was a highlight for sure. As for being all-you-can-eat... if you've been nice to your waiters the whole cruise, they might just offer you extra lobsters😁
@@TravelTouristVideos Great tip!! Thank you!!! 😊
I knew to press the like button before even starting to watch the video ... bravissimo! Just wanted to ask anyone who has a lot of Princess cruise experience ... do you think the MDR food is better because of certain ports, number of ports, certain ships, and/length of cruise?
I'm trying out Mexico again and it just feels like the food on a Caribbean cruise is so much better (maybe with all that competition with other cruise lines) or maybe the Mexico cruises focus on booze. It's definitely more rowdy pre-c19. I wonder how it is post-c19?
We have been on eight cruises on seven lines, six since COVID. We have had no problems with rowdy crowds as we prefer lines that cater to adults - Celebrity, Holland America and Princess. All of them are very consistent in food and service. If you want to avoid families, go while school is in. By the way, the seven and ten day cruises draw a different crowd than the 3 day "booze cruises."
@@jlawrence0181 Thank you for your input. I pretty much go with the flow whether it's relaxing or lively. I'm thankful for each different experience. I don't mind the children as much as aggressive adults.
The 1st time we did the 7 day Mexican Riviera we met 2 ladies who said that the drink package wasn't enough as the took 2 shots of vodka at breakfast 😳 and I heard someone got into a fist fight at the 2nd sea day. I met other people who also complained that 1am is too early to close the bar 😱. It was a whole different experience than our 10 day Caribbean cruise.
Both were on the same exact ship (trips were a few years apart), but I felt like the food was better on our Caribbean cruise.
Thank you very much Mandy! 😊 Those are very good questions and hopefully some fellow cruisers can share their experience regarding Mexico cruises post-COVID.
@@mandywong1408 We did the Mexican Riviera cruise on the HAL Konigsdam in December 2022. It was a pretty mellow , older crowd and there were really no issues.. On the Princess and Holland America ships, things start to calm down after about 10:30 pm each night. There is no late night disco or anything like that. I generally exercise around 11 pm by walking around the ship and honestly, it is so quiet that I rarely see anyone.
I also want to chime in on the small portions. Food and dessert looks good though. But how did those McDonald fries end up on what supposedly looks like a high end plate of food.
Yeah those fries seemed out of place, but our son didn't mind lol. Thanks for the comment!
Is it possible to know in advance on which day the Lobster Night would be on a Princess cruise.
It's usually the last formal night- so usually the second to the last night of the cruise. Ours wasn't because of New Year's Eve. But double check with your waiter on the first night and he can confirm the exact night.
My theory is they serve a tough steak in the MDR to try and force you to the steakhouse.
I think the 'strip steak' is pretty consistent across all the main cruise lines. It's obviously not tenderloin, so it has the normal level of steak chewiness. With our family, if the mdr menu is so uninteresting that I'm considering getting the strip steak, then we instead go to the Lido. On Princess and Hal, the lido has such a great variety that we do dinner there on most nights.
Which night is lobster night in dining room. Thank you
It's usually the second or last formal night. For us they had it on New Years Eve, which was the second formal night. Once on the ship you can ask your waiter and he can confirm the exact night for your sailing.
those steaks are so thin that they can't really do 'medium rare' all that well, it's more likely to have that raw chewiness. Probably best to just go for 'medium', which should ideally have some pink in it.
That's a good point and good tip! 👍
You don't get steak unless you pay extra for it. I tried ordering it 3 times under 3 different steak names and each time I got 3 slivers of steamed beef that had been tossed on the grill for a minute to brown it. Cruise was December 2023.
@@warpedweft9004 what steaks did you order? That would surprise me. In general, all the cruise lines serve 'strip steak', which I almost never order. It's 'ok', not bad, not great. I did get the Mexican steak at 'Chibang' on Carnival, and it was a regular stripsteak. It was ok but nothing very memorable.
@@monkeyb1820 They called it various different names, one of which was strip steak. Often they'd have more than one steak option, but it didn't matter which one you ordered, you still got the same three tiny slivers of steamed beef sliced off a larger piece of meat, then thrown on a grill to brown the outside. Steamed beef has a particular taste to it (that I don't particularly like), so it was clear how it was cooked.
We avoid the strip loins. They are one tough cut of beef!
Yes that is certainly the case for the one in the video!
I am surprised to hear shrimp described as "crunchy". I think that was said in another of your videos too. Shrimp isn't crunchy unless it's fried...so I'm not understanding this (unless she's eating the peel on the tail, which I'm sure she isn't).
I think she means that they still have a snap to them and are not mushy.
we only got soggy wilted prawns, and that was only if we ordered the shrimp cocktail. No other prawn dishes were offered, fried or otherwise.
What ship are you on?
This was from the Regal Princess
Sexy scallops? lol!
I loved that too 🤣!!
😆
👍🤝🇧🇷❤️🌹👏
🥰😊🙏
That steak was probably not a good cut of meat to be so chewy.
Yup that wasn't the best cut, but the filet mignon was excellent!
This lady does a great job of critiquing the food. But I wasn’t that impressed by any of it.
Thank you! 😊
Please don’t talk with your mouth full.impolite 😊
