If the cruise line doesn't get it right, the cruise just isn't the same. I'm so glad to see you guys enjoying Carnival's food. I've never sailed with Carnival, and want to give it a try. I was on a 7-day Princess cruise last year, and the food was *so* sub-par. Lobster night was such an epic failure, as the lobster tails were over-cooked, extremely rubbery, and so salty none of us could finish even one tail. Seriously, even the specialty restaurants were super off kilter that week. Anyway, I guess cruising can be hit or miss. My personal favorite of all the cruise lines so far is RCL. Among other things, they got the food exactly right. Thanks to your video, I will be booking with Carnival soon.

Tell the wait staff & they should bring you out a more acceptable one. But yeah after the pandemic there has been cutbacks & it sounds like Princess' food has gone down a notch. I love this food review video. Great job! We have been on over 30 carnival cruises and 9 more booked. Your reviews are spot on with what I think too. But, i did see a few dishes that i have never tried and I will in the future. Baked Alaska is my absolute favorite. Well, besides the creme brulee. But, I have started trying some of the low or no sugar options and so far really good.
I so enjoy watching your videos! It shows me what my choices will be for dinner in the main dining room on my cruise with Carnival. Wonderful meals I do not have to plan for, shop or cook. Nor do the dishes! Yeah!

The best thing I had out of the 7 days on the Vista at dinner was the Filet Mignon. The tenderest steak and the best flavor ever! Superb! Beat any Steak House around. Crab Cakes were very good also.

The trick to trying everything is to share with your family. During the 50 year Sailabration dinner back in March, the two of us ordered 4 different entrees including Beef Wellington.

Thank you so much! 🙏 That's a tough one to answer because the differences aren't big. Among the major cruise lines, Holland America probably has the best food overall for both taste & presentation, but Princess, Royal, Celebrity are pretty much right there too. Those four have the best service at the buffet as well since the crew will come and ask to bring you drinks there. Carnival has especially good casual eats like burgers & BBQ, and their main dining food was pretty good too. NCL pretty similar as well.

Our pleasure! 😊 We didn't try the steakhouse, but heard it was really good. It's pretty popular so you can try booking early to get the reservation time slot best for you. If you're on a 7 night cruise the main dining room will likely have a lobster night, so you might want to schedule around that. Have a great time!
When I first started cruising, all I knew was Carnival Cruise Lines everything was great the food the room everything. That was 20 years ago, after seeing these videos of the meals on Carnival they have not changed much in 20 years. I enjoyed them as a virgin cruiser, but know that I have a few cruses under my belt and have sailed on different cruise lines Carnival is my last choice to sail on unless I am taking my grandkids on vacation.
can you maybe do a video comparing the different cruise companies food? We are doing a royal Caribbean one next month because the food looked good from your videos. How does carnival compare to royal?
It's a bit of a tough compare because a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Since you've seen our recent Royal food videos, you probably have a good idea of what's better there and vice versa. If you like casual foods like burgers, burritos, bbq, you might like Carnival better. If you enjoy a wider variety at the buffet, Royal comes out on top there. MDR dinner is a bit of awash IMO, though Carnival seems to have better MDR lunch (seaday brunch which we'll have a video on it soon).
great video thank you very much and next year i will be on the sunrise for my first cruise. only thing (as a chef myself) i noticed is the fried oysters were not cleaned well...when she cut into it that was well the crap line hanging...otherwise wonderful on carnival.
Would love your opinion, RC food or Carnival which one is better? Or are they comparable at all? I have not cruised yet and am still trying to pick between the two lines for my first cruise. I have heard that Carnival has more “free” food options at better quality than RC. Again just trying to collect info. I say I just need to go on both to see!
Great question! Royal has a better buffet selection, though Carnival has more included casual eateries. At the main dining room Royal used to be better, but it's a bit of awash now. In fact Carnival's Seaday Brunch is better than Royal's seaday lunch due to Royal's cutbacks. So pretty much a tie, though a lot of it depends on your personal taste preferences. Would love to hear what you think if you get to try both! 🙂
Were these the standard portions for these dishes or did they give you smaller ones because you ordered a variety? The portions seemed small compared to the cruise i was on (a long time ago).
Not 100% sure but I'm fairly certain that they are the typical portion because what they do in the galley is to push out these dishes and make them look & taste consistent. But yes the portions seem to be smaller vs the past, but it's fine with us since we like to sample multiple ones anyways. Thanks for the question!
Loved the tiramisu, didn't have the cream sauce and was surprised how much I liked it since I dont like coffee or coffee flavor things normally but if the Espresso was in the sauce maybe that why I liked it so much. But definitely going back for more.
I absolutely love watching your videos. Just like you, I could easily eat a third lobster tail. They are not that large so it wouldn’t be gluttony would it (hahaha)??
Tough call. Buffet-wise, Royal has better variety & quality, but Carnival has an edge in the casual/fast food eateries. MDR is a bit of a toss-up. So have to say it's up to personal preference- thanks for the question!
Braised oxen toung was apparently replaced because the menu I was given link to has rare find on night 4 as BBQ pulled wild boar. Instead. I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to try it. But oh well so many other new things to try
I'm surprised they haven't added 'table cloth' as an extra-fee service...it would probably be too hard for them to keep up with who ordered the 'table cloth package' and having it ready for them when they show up...
After watching your review of Statendam and Cunard,it is so obvious they way above Carnival food wise, and other ways. Seeing each dish gives the ability to do comparisons Thank you again for your super reviews!

You guys rock! I have never been on a carnival cruise and I was curious what the main dining would be like. Everyone says Carnival had the worst food but this looked very comparable to RCL. I’m excited to try it when I sail on the Celebration in a few weeks!

That strip at @2:29 made me laugh. They stuck a whole (unpeeled) clove of burnt garlic on top of an untrimmed strip. That cut needed a quick trimming before it was put on the grill, would have taken 15 seconds. Overall the food looks good but things like that are where you can see some corner-cutting.
Another great video. On my Carnival cruise, the MDR food was very good and the service that we received from the three waiters were second only to Celebrity. I thought the food in the MDR was better than Royal Caribbean and the service more professional. I like the creativity of the menu as well as the almost flawless execution of the individual dishes. And unlike a few other cruise lines, the menus were accurate. Carnival would NOT be my first choice mostly due to entertainment and atmosphere. However, if they offer another Los Angeles to Singapore repo cruise ... The odd thing about the cruise was that we never ate at the buffet and have no idea what it was like. (g)

The buffet is not super great so you didn't miss much. Overall I think people underrate their food, maybe because Carnival is marketed as the "Fun Ship".

Thank you! If you're going on a 7 night or longer cruise it is included, usually on night #2. But if you like to order it on other nights there is a surcharge. You can also order lobster as well at the steakhouse specialy restaurant, which costs extra as well. Have a wonderful cruise!

Most tilapia fish is raised in tanks next to chicken farms. They scrape up the chicken crap, and throw it into the tanks, and that's what the fish eat 😮
The braised brisket was really good, but what they call brisket we call Pot Roast, because that's exactly what it tasted like. Wasn't bad in any way but definitely pot roast not brisket
I never tried the Featured Indian Vegetarian but I will on my 25th Carnival cruise next month after seeing your video. Also, grab a bottle of low sodium soy sauce (green bottle) from Lido Deck for day 4. I love the Grilled Tofu Steak. I would've also ordered the Grilled Barramundi and mix the two entrees together and splash some of the low sodium soy sauce.

Royal Caribbean has more generous portions, and much more attractive food presentations. And the lack of table cloths definitely downgrades the experience. What is next? Paper napkins and plastic forks?

Would love your opinion, RC food or Carnival which one is better? Or are they comparable at all? I have not cruised yet and am still trying to pick between the two lines for my first cruise. I have heard that Carnival has more “free” food options at better quality than RC. Again just trying to collect info. I say I just need to go on both to see!
Great question! Royal has a better buffet selection, though Carnival has more included casual eateries. At the main dining room Royal used to be better, but it's a bit of awash now. In fact Carnival's Seaday Brunch is better than Royal's seaday lunch due to Royal's cutbacks. So pretty much a tie, though a lot of it depends on your personal taste preferences. Would love to hear what you think if you get to try both! 🙂

Suppose you don't have a phone? Do you use the ships computer room to make your reservations?
You could, though you can also call the dining reservation desk and they'll help you get a table.
Were these the standard portions for these dishes or did they give you smaller ones because you ordered a variety? The portions seemed small compared to the cruise i was on (a long time ago).
Not 100% sure but I'm fairly certain that they are the typical portion because what they do in the galley is to push out these dishes and make them look & taste consistent. But yes the portions seem to be smaller vs the past, but it's fine with us since we like to sample multiple ones anyways. Thanks for the question!

Loved the tiramisu, didn't have the cream sauce and was surprised how much I liked it since I dont like coffee or coffee flavor things normally but if the Espresso was in the sauce maybe that why I liked it so much. But definitely going back for more.

Tough call. Buffet-wise, Royal has better variety & quality, but Carnival has an edge in the casual/fast food eateries. MDR is a bit of a toss-up. So have to say it's up to personal preference- thanks for the question!

The Indian dishes are so yummy. Sailed one time with a vegetarian and she got everyone to try it one night.

Braised oxen toung was apparently replaced because the menu I was given link to has rare find on night 4 as BBQ pulled wild boar. Instead. I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to try it. But oh well so many other new things to try

How do you order multiple main dishes? Eat one, then order another? Or do you order 2-3 all at once?
You could eat one and then ask for another, but the wait staff would much prefer that you place the orders all at once.

You guys rock! I have never been on a carnival cruise and I was curious what the main dining would be like. Everyone says Carnival had the worst food but this looked very comparable to RCL. I’m excited to try it when I sail on the Celebration in a few weeks!

Stay away from the main dining room. Select Your Time Dining and go to the other dining areas.
Carnival food is FAR better than RC.
That strip at @2:29 made me laugh. They stuck a whole (unpeeled) clove of burnt garlic on top of an untrimmed strip. That cut needed a quick trimming before it was put on the grill, would have taken 15 seconds. Overall the food looks good but things like that are where you can see some corner-cutting.

Another great video. On my Carnival cruise, the MDR food was very good and the service that we received from the three waiters were second only to Celebrity. I thought the food in the MDR was better than Royal Caribbean and the service more professional. I like the creativity of the menu as well as the almost flawless execution of the individual dishes. And unlike a few other cruise lines, the menus were accurate. Carnival would NOT be my first choice mostly due to entertainment and atmosphere. However, if they offer another Los Angeles to Singapore repo cruise ...
The odd thing about the cruise was that we never ate at the buffet and have no idea what it was like. (g)
Thank you very much! 😊 Yeah we quite enjoyed Carnival's MDR dinners & their seaday brunch as well. Some very interesting and well-executed dishes for sure. The buffet is not super great so you didn't miss much. Overall I think people underrate their food, maybe because Carnival is marketed as the "Fun Ship".
@@TravelTouristVideos The one thing that I have learned is that after you finish in the MDR, go check out what is on the buffet ... My joy in life is to try dishes I have never had ... and to recreate them when I get home.
I'm getting the drift that the deserts are excellent but the only let down apart from the tenderloin is that the steaks are not succulent

Thank you! If you're going on a 7 night or longer cruise it is included, usually on night #2. But if you like to order it on other nights there is a surcharge. You can also order lobster as well at the steakhouse specialy restaurant, which costs extra as well. Have a wonderful cruise!

Most tilapia fish is raised in tanks next to chicken farms. They scrape up the chicken crap, and throw it into the tanks, and that's what the fish eat 😮

Basically you'd connect to the ship's wi-fi and the app will work. But you'll only be able to access the Internet after buying a package.

I had it in Louisiana; battered and fried. It was quite good. Same with crocodile, which I tried in Western Australia; served more like a steak there.
The braised brisket was really good, but what they call brisket we call Pot Roast, because that's exactly what it tasted like. Wasn't bad in any way but definitely pot roast not brisket

I never tried the Featured Indian Vegetarian but I will on my 25th Carnival cruise next month after seeing your video.
Also, grab a bottle of low sodium soy sauce (green bottle) from Lido Deck for day 4. I love the Grilled Tofu Steak. I would've also ordered the Grilled Barramundi and mix the two entrees together and splash some of the low sodium soy sauce.
