    While Powell is fourth fastest all-time, he has the most sub 10 second 100m times in history by far. He is considered by many to be the most naturally gifted sprinter with textbook start and drive phases. Seemingly able to run 9 seconds in any condition he will be ironically remembered as the most disappointing sprinter in big finals, unable to win a single world title.

      The IAAF set the maximum legal wind limit at 2.0. So you cannot penalize a runner who ran a specific time at the maximum wind reading. Also on their list ties are listed chronologically. Mainly because if runner A breaks a world record and runner B comes later and ties it, (no matter what the legal wind reading is) runner A still will be listed first. Runner B will be listed second but credited with the tie. Even though runner B did not break any record.

    • @viewmaster2027
      @viewmaster2027 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      The negative wind is more favorable than the wind assistance time, it's just common sense and scientific...
      So Yohan is number 2 fastest ever, with the shared time...

    • @sydboski
      @sydboski 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      View Master Yes Tyson had more favorable conditions, but Blake did not run faster. You can only put someone over an established time/spot if they run faster. Since Blake did not run faster he will be listed under Tyson. When/If he runs faster, he will get the lone spot as second fastest.
      So, as of right now he is tied with, and will be listed after Tyson,

    • @viewmaster2027
      @viewmaster2027 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      +sydboski I never said Blake ran faster sir...
      Blake time was achieved with a head wind impeding him to the line. When you calculate the negative wind Blake's time would've been 9.64 or 9.65 seconds...
      Tyson Gay time with the tail wind pushing him at 2.00 mps, would've been around 9.78 seconds....
      The IAAF experiment of wind calculated that a tailwind of 2.00 mps equates to .10 hundredths of a seconds assistance with faster times....
      Had Yohan got the same tailwind of 2.00 mps, his time could have been nearing the present world record....

The 100 meters is a little longer at 28 ft , so extrapolating roughly, he would have run anywhere from a 9.8 to 9.9 sec 100 meter. That was well over 50 years ago, when training techniques, shoe technology (for sure) were not nearly as advanced as today. No doubt he could've improved under today's training regimens, technology. Bullet Bob could've given today's sprinters a heck uv a challenge. Could run with the best of them.

    What’s strange is that Gatlin, Powell, Blake, Gay all tested positive.
    Yet the man who beat them all and holds the WR was clean.
    Out of the top 52 times in history, no athlete has ever run clean, except from Bolt
    You have to go back to Trayvon Bromell or Lamont Jacobs who ran 0.2 seconds below their personal bests in a race (i mentioned this because it isn’t normal)
    History doesn’t shine the best light when we look at athletes from yesteryear who dominated when their competitors were doping.
    We seem to think Usain was a genuine athlete but jt takes an incredible leap of faith to think the best athletes in the world couldn’t get anywhere near him even whist doping.

    • @Reformsqua
      @Reformsqua  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve seen logarithmic graphs that project the fastest time will be 9.48 but that it won’t happen for over 300 years. Interestingly, these graphs were made when the WR was Greene’s 9.79 and it was assumed that the WR progression would proceed logarithmically. According to this assumption the next WR sprinter wasn’t supposed to appear until around 2015-2020. So the appearance of five guys going below 9.79 by 2009 was obviously a surprise. Bolts 9.58 was 100 years ahead of schedule according to the logarithmic interpretation of a graph which plots the 100m progression from 1912. However, if an exponential trend is fitted to the data it predicts that the record will fall to 9.69 by 2015 and to 9.58 by 2025. So we see Bolt is an outlier even when assuming exponential progress, the times of Gatlin, Powell, Gay, and Blake however all conform nicely to the exponential model. If the exponential progression of the 100m WR continues we can expect the fastest man possible to compete in the 2040’s

    Due to the financial compensation structure of professional track and field I think Bolt screwed himself out of a faster time (though made more money). Huge bonuses are awarded for each WR break. If you leave everything on the track too early, you miss out on serious $$,$$$,$$$! Incremental record breaks (in the right high profile meets) get you the largest and most numerous payouts from meet organizers, endorsees, and sponsors. This is why he pulled up so often in his early career. Later when he went full-bore he had likely lost a step and we never saw his true fastest time.

    Top 5 Fastest 100 Meter Dash Sprinters:
    1. (Jam) Usain Bolt - 9.58
    2. (Jam) Yohan Blake - 9.69 (Yohan ran 9.69 in a strong headwind)
    3. (USA) Tyson Gay - 9.69 (Tyson had a tailwind that assisted him)
    4. (Jam) Asafa Powell - 9.72
    5. (USA) Justin Gatlin - 9.74

      Yohan didn't run in strong wind, it was basically still air

      But the wind conditions made it very difficult to run a 9.69

      Corey Barnes Tyson should be second because it was before yohan Blake 9.69

      Corey Barnes usain had the wind as well, watch it the commentator also said the wind was behind him, either way, they all had the wind so it doesnt matter

    Jesse Owns 100m in Berlin was 10.3! That being said he ran in shit shoes a sandy tack that slowed him down. You put him in todays game and quantify the science he's right there!

      @elijahebbert6884 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was handtimed tho, a 10.3 handtimed converts to a 10.54 100m. Still doesn't make it any less remarkable that he did it on a cinder track
