How do you keep your chest mount stable? With my X3 I can't seem to get it to stop flopping around on drops/jumps/rough tech trails and the footage just ends up really shaky.
My issue with these cameras is them being defined as "action cams" when I have had to replace 3 sets of lenses on my previous ones - which was basically the cost of another camera - they have since become my - "not so action" cameras - AKA - I never use them - if I spend $500 on this - are these lens guards actually gonna protect the lenses when I drop it in hard snow or biking or off a golf cart (all things that have scratched my previous lenses) - in the past - the lens guards have really sucked - and I am SUPER skeptical of anyone who has a "relationship" with this company - of course you will use it as an action cam - if the lens gets scratched - they will just send you a new one - but the rest of us have to wait 3 weeks for a reply, then 3 weeks to ship the camera out - then spend $99 on the replacement lens plus shipping - then wait another 3 weeks for it to come in from China - so - really - should I bother getting this or will the lens just get scratched when using it in ANY action scenario - save for maybe water or pillow fighting???
@@whitest_kylestuntman makes a really solid chest mount that works wonders! My preference though is a full face with the camera mounted on the visor or the chin.
Having just had both my X3 lenses replaced due to scratches, the quality lens covers that lock on instead of stick on are a HUGE game changer. $250 to replace the lenses. Wish I would've known the X4 was coming out before I had it repaired lol.
I just got my x4 and after a week of mountain biking i am thinking of selling it while its still new. I am disappointed with this product.@@MatttKelly
Warning to all, the lenses are so fragile and can get easily scratch even when in your pocket. And if you are not rich like me, goodluck to you once you scratch those lenses. The lense cover does not even do any good.
Now what they need to do is launch a X4 Mini for us MTBikers to use under the peak of the helmet. Really tought this one was going to be smaller from the renders online, but it's even bigger. Ryan, use your influence to make it happen! 😁
@@mudkayak6305 it can and I've seen guys doing it, but it doesn't look good and it's still a bit heavy to have under the visor. Something half the size without the display would be great.
To do an accurate test of the heat issue you gotta film a moving video so that the debayering process doesnt just keep using the same frame since not much changes in the shot. Camera movement will greatly increase write rates and increase the heat.
Exactly, great point. The heat test here was unproductive at best - really need to get out there and shoot some high motion video in the sun and heat, say 30C in the sun to really get a feel for its performance.
I wish you guys just showed us how things looked in auto... I think the majority of users are us simpletons who are never going to color grade anything, are never going to shoot in flat, and just want an accurate and honest representation of what we can expect out of the box. Hard to come by.
Your review is so amazing. I’m so glad you talked about it. Getting hot or lack there of, so many TH-camrs have just been exclusively chilling the product and not talking about anywhere that it may be lacking or concerning and due to a TH-camr calling out 360 for bribing TH-camrs to not say that their vids are sponsored videos made me more than a little hesitant, this is definitely a great review.
Ya it’s been unfortunate to hear what those creators were instructed to do. Our contact at Insta360 has always stated quite the opposite (they always want us to be fully honest and transparent about our dealings with them), so I’m wondering if those other people had one person who didn’t understand how things work. Pretty lame, for sure and I hope that person (or people) aren’t allowed to keep working in that position of trust within the company.
I cannot wait to get my hand on this, I am in the same boat for bike shooting, it is so hard here on the west coast to capture clean POV in the trees while riding due to the low light. X3 did the best so far, but I am curious is the extra size and weight are a deal breaker for POV, the X3 was already significantly bigger and heavier than a MAX. Cheers bud!🍻🍁❄️
Looks great...2 questions...1. What is the reframe resolution on the 8k footage?....2. Do you have any idea of how the lens guards fare in water or rain...are they water tight and do they disperse water easily (the X3 and GoPro Max almost always leaves a drop in the centre of the lens...physics I guess!)...
I wanna buy this camera and I’ve been thinking of buying it for a long time but one thing that concerns me is the weight and I’m wondering if anyone knows how it feels when you mount it to the top of your helmet which is where I would mount it
Is the X4 any wider viewing angle than the X3 when using single camera mode? I'm struggling to think why I would choose the X4 over the X3 when I would generally only use single camera mode
Thanks mate! I love the X2 but finally I can buy the next generation. In the X2, poor photo quality was the most annoying, but now I can finally start shooting great 360 photos! The X2 footage still looks great for my kind of riding style, but X3 gives more resolution which is definitely needed!
On the chest mount you are using it as single camera mode? Is there a better camera for this use which is as stable and wide? I have a Hero10, but I find the shot isn't wide or stable enough compared to this!
Nice video! Lately, I've started using Insta360 cameras on my rides around town with my dog.🚴🐕I managed to mount Insta360 Extended edition selfie stick (300 cm) with the Insta360 X4 over the front wheel of the bicycle using the quick release system. So, I can stop riding the bicycle anywhere, put it on the stand, and continue filming my dog without pausing. Also, I placed the second Insta360 Ace Pro camera on the bicycle seat tube to film what is happening behind me. With this, I covered the area that cannot be recorded by the front camera because of me, because I interfere in the shot. In this way, I can cover literally everything that happens around me while riding a bike, and thus watch all the runs of my dog around me, this way I get great shots suitable for slowing down. I am really excited about both insta360 cameras!
For chest cam, 16:9 only, I could take either one, although the Ace Pro form factor works a little bit better for this specific use case. For mounting on the helmet, or if I wanted to get both 16:9 and 9:16 out of one shot, it’s gotta be the X4. Hope that helps!
the heat management probably does not make sense in your living room, but certainly does while riding in the summer at places like Morzine, where it's easily ~28 degrees Celsius at the end of July
They are pretty different beasts in a lot of ways, with different strengths. They both have the newer processor now, so they are both super quick in the menus systems. If you generally like super wide angle shots, the X4 is probably the ticket. For wide-ish, or more narrow FOV's, the Ace Pro is great.
Has the POV capabilities improved ? Cause whenever I upload footage from my Insta360 X3, especially in fall color situations, the leaves are mushy or too over exposed
How are you wearing that camera or where are you placing it? I do mtb, gravel and road and while I love camera I am just so unsure how to mount it. And does it need to be mounted wide for best view or can you mount is narrow?
I see you are putting the mic-mufflers on... I wonder if you have found a solution how to "cover" or "protect" the lenses with the rubber guard, while having these on? Or had the X4 solve that? on X3, if I am out for a day, and its windy (I keep them on) then I have no way of protecting the lenses from scratching, when putting the camera away.
Was impressed that the "White" spots weren't blown out (Yes I'm looking at you GoPro). did you have a specific white-balance setting or just auto? Thanks!

Let me ask you. When you were skiing, do the plastic lens guards get foggy? That is a real issue with the X3 covers. Appears the condensation will stick to the plastic.
@TheLoamRanger ahhhh thanks. On a sunny day wouldn't be an issue, but when there is humidity or precipitation, the footage is useless. Perhaps the premium "glass" lens are meant to remedy that?
I finally purchased the official X3 lens guards from Insta360 after dropping my camera twice. Once under their care program and this time $250 to get my X3 fixed (actually replaced). The lens guards are awful. You can see the distortion so you have to be creative or zoom in to push the distortion out of frame.
Quick question. How much computer processing power is needed to edit video in 8k? I would love the 8k 360 camera, but not if I have to buy a new $2000 computer just to view and edit files.

Such a cool camera, such a stupid look. Every time I see one, I can't help but think it's just too ridiculous, honestly. The future of action cams should not be this ugly.
...and it still looks like phone footage. Forget the resolution. Give us better dynamic range to be able to use the footage with full and crop sensor mirrorless cameras. That's really all we've been wanting for since the first action cameras came out and we're still waiting.
I find it very suspect that none of the major influencers are comparing the X4 to the 1-inch. I do not think Insta360 wants that comparison to happen. This camera seems to be marketed using the 8K resolution it has and not the fact that it's the exact same sensor in the X3. I bought the X4 and have the 1-inch and I can say without a doubt that I am keeping my 1-inch and returning the X4. The 1-inch is so much better. If any of you are semi knowledgable about cameras, you know the most import aspect of a camera is its image sensor capability. Light gathering is everything. I will wait for the 8k 1-inch to come out. That will add even more detail to the 1-inch and trust me, it's not missing a ton. The X4 is only necessary if you need a waterproof camera without using additional accessories or want something a bit lighter, but if you own the 1-inch, I say save your money.
Don’t forget about battery life, ease of use, much better processing and audio. The X4 runs away with it in all of those categories. I also have the 1” and it’s good for specific shots where one doesn’t need audio or decent battery life, but I likely won’t be touching that camera now that I have the X4.
@@TheLoamRanger Image quality and sensor is first and foremost for me. No action cam audio is something I would use professionally any how. Most 360 edited videos don't use the audio and have a song track and sound effects so audio is not a deal breaker. Battery life is fine on the 1-inch and I always have a battery bank handy for most of my products. The only selling point is the waterproof capability but for someone who owns a boat, even then it's not frequently used in that capacity. Definitely not missing the X4 knowing I have the better overall image quality.
Let me know if you have any questions about the camera. 🖖 Here's a link to the X4: bit.ly/Insta360X4LR

The AI gesture control is a killer addition ❤
I want my view count back after watching this.
