    My mind is B L O W N.
    I make literally all of these mistakes and never realized that they were contributing to my shitty maniures!
    THANK YOU

    Such good tips! After watching you do nails over the last few years I’ve learned a ton and it really got me passionate about gels. By the time I (finally) went to nail school last year I was leaps and bounds ahead in gels and structured manis. ❤️

    I was also lazy once and was like, they’ll be fine. Didn’t buff the nail. All of them pooped off the next day

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ugh Been there. But luckily noticed after just one nail. My friend on the other hand ... perfect manicure gone in a few days just pop pop pop!

      @@nailthoughts I said pooped. 💩!!! Hahahaha. Popped!!! Lol. I was at work (as a nurse so way too much hand washing for improper prep) and I just glued it down to try and make it through the day but then the rest came shortly after. I don’t know what I was thinking. 😅😅

    Good timing!! Just did my friends nails using Kokoist Gelips and two Days later they are lifting 😳

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes!!! My best guess is you gotta buff more! Too smooth of a surface!

    I'm gonna start using "texturizing the nail", it sounds "nicer" 😆
    Like your texturizing your hair of something like that. Great video!

    After buffing your nail, should you wipe it with alcohol or anything to clean the dust off? Or what should you do after you buff it, pre-ph bond/base coat?

    Question... I'm super hard on my nails and they are very strong... But I get tip wear with gel polish... What could be causing that?

    I realize it's two years later but I thought Kokoist products didn't require nail buffing or a base coat. Nail Toughts line does???

    Another question I have!: Doesn’t a base coat cover up all that hard “Velcro” adhesion you just made? I found with base coats they promote my gel coming off

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      you can't do regular gel color without a base coat! it will come right off. it's not like nail polish in that way. So if you apply your gel base coat, you'll notice that after it cures it stays sticky, that helps with adhesion of the color on top! but yes you 100000% need a base coat for gel! hope that makes sense. we are doing that prep work to get the base coat to stick perfectly to the nail, the rest is great because gel loooooves other gel.

    Since water makes your nails expand should you avoid using cuticle remover?

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would definitely avoid yes!!dry manicures are the best prep work for gel. And cuticle removers can also leave a little residue/oil on the nail that might mess with adhesion as well

    is there any way to become licensed with gel or gelx? I see schools mostly do acrylic

    • @kathykov1
      @kathykov1 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to become licensed, you must go to school. In the school that I teach at, I teach acrylic, gel, and GelX. But that's my school. You should be learning gel at school no matter where they are located.

    So what about holding up manicures after washing your hands a bunch?! (Cause of a little pandemic) or do those oil applications through the day prevent that damage?

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hand washing is totally fine! gel is actually not porous so having a gel manicure covering the majority of the surface of your nail actually protects your nails more from water! Definitely still use the oil under the nails and at cuticles though to keep things nice and hydrated!

    • @nailthoughts
      @nailthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      also it's not really about avoiding water altogether, because of course impossible. more of just don't give your nails exposure to water at least 30 mins before gel mani to help application last longer!
