There's no such thing as an unfortunate ending when you go boating and come back safe. I have gone overboard in the ocean, flipped a raft floating for steelhead, and had countless brushes with disaster. Any day fishing and getting back to the dock safely with all of the equipment intact is a win.
i counted 2 kayaking incident that could of gone fatal during my trips. luck and instinct i believe saved the trip.. i never bring newbie out anymore..
The only time I saw San Francisco was through a periscope when the sub I was on did a pers trans in the bay. I couldn’t get topside but did get some time on a periscope as part of the Navigation party. It was pretty cool. Great Video!
Whew! Glad you got back safe! The afternoon winds can make it notoriously dangerous in the afternoon. Can you use a manual peddle drive along with the motor as an 'assist'? Probably get more power and endurance from your legs.
This is awesome. When I was a kid. I had a summer job with East Bay Park district. I was on a project were they wanted to prove the Indians would cross the bay on boats made of tully's to trade. I bet you can find the story in the archives. Circa 1978 1980.
They're called container ships. 20 containers wide and can go up to 9 containers high. They can carry up to 13,000 containers. I'm a long shoreman I work on those in LOS ANGELES
I'd like to striped bass fish on San Pablo bay with my kayak. Any ideas on the best place to go? If you hit the wind, it will determine where you're going on the bay.
Do you ever have a light/a flashing light at the rear of your kayak? I always have one on my life vest, just to make sure everyone sees me. My old stomping grounds. Thanks for the great video.
Wondering what battery and motor combo you have on the kayak? Curious because we too have been wanting to add a trolling motor to ours but recently heard about vessel licensing requirements (new this year) about anything motorozied on the water.
Great video Adam! San Francisco Bay can be treacherous as you know. Took the ferry to Napa from the San Fran Pier and the water at times was over the windows.
That was super cool, Adam! Awesome scenery and some good insight for those of us who aren't familiar with the bay area. Btw, our shipping lanes are also very busy off the Texas coast. Each time I travel to Galveston to fish, it seems like there are more and more of those massive container ships. Not a bother, but interesting to watch.
As a huge Giants fan I have always wanted to take my kayak to McCovey cove during a game, but would also love to take a pole and catch a fish. Do you think there'd be fish worth catching in the cove?
Adam.. Thanks.. That answered a LOT of questions I have always had... BTW How many lbs thrust is your motor? (So I can get a feel for what your 100AH battery can drive for 12 + miles.) Also.. Maybe you won't answer.. But, have you ever launched from SF and drift fished for H near Alcatraz on your kayak (Old Town?) A lot of charter/party boats target this area for limits after fetching live bait from then bait guy near Scoma's Restaurant. (Andrew - Patreon supporter)
Hey Andrew! My motor is a 45 lb thrust motor. I have never tried fishing Alcatraz from my kayak. I would be a little concerned about the tides being strong in that area but I will look into it!
Hey, Adam, if you wanna go sightseen, you should launch on the Sausalito side. Underneath the Golden Gate bridge. I've been wanting to do that, but I'm a new kayaker. And not certain of the waters in that area.
You can do it. I've escorted swimmers from SF to Sausalito in a kayak. Go with someone else. Or maybe a couple other people. Go early and go at slack tide end of ebb start of flood. Watch the shipping channels. Be willing to ditch your plans and head for shore.
Nice adventure! I wondered what your range was on your kayak and battery. I use the Bixpy motor and battery with my Hobie Outback and I carry two batteries. Always end up switching them out after about 4 + hours - depending on how fast I am trolling. I also got a cable adaptor so I can recharge my cell phone (I use Navionics, too!) if it wears out. I do remember SF Bay - I thought it was pretty even when foggy (a lot of the time!)
@@DieHardFishing interesting. I consume 65Ah on my Battle Born 100Ah, traveling 12+ miles in mixed tide flows in the Delta. But, I have a pedal drive to use at times. So the 55lb thrust motor I have isn't always constantly running.
You do realize that there was a tourist boat headed to Alcatraz and somebody on the tourist boat took a photograph of a juvenile great white shark jumping out of the water close to Alcatraz so sometime there are great white sharks in the bay and you should know that a juvenile great white shark could come into the bay an adult one can come too so I would be careful going out in the kayak thinking it's absolutely safe because that clip on the news showing the juvenile great white shark jumping out of the water is proof that great whites can't come into San Francisco Bay
If you can afford to live there you can move to any other state and buy a boat. I know a guy here in Florida that has many boats for sale. Probably for about the same cost as your paddle boy there.
There's a reason it costs a lot to live here. Other than the prices and politics, it's awesome. Fishing, hunting, outdoors, great weather...nowhere in the US has as much variety that there is in our own backyard. The problem with Florida is that you have to put up with Floridians. It takes 32 of them to come up with a complete set of teeth (just kidding)
Hey not sure what ur video was about,u didn't explain much except u were gonna cross the bay,& try yo catch a fish ?.Leopard sharks r the easiest.J have never not caught one, ever.Cheers
There are very few places where people can live aboard their boats in California waters. Some of the areas have grandfathered allowance, but no new live aboards.
I've only been to Commiefonia once for military training and have no desire to go back because I carry everyday and everywhere. If a state or business doesn't allow concealed carry from out of state I don't go!
I don’t see you paddling I don’t see you “kayaking”😂🫠🫠 PS~ Ever hear of that huge shipping cargo that went down loaded with classic Porsches and exotic cars?😢😮💨😮💨. Oh now you’re paddling. Gosh I wish I was out there~ this is awesome! I’m so jealous!

Very true!
Okay thank you
The worst is realizing you forgot your drain plug a mile out😂😂
That's good, I think you win
You gave the folks in the high rises something to talk about. "Look, look at this guy in the kayak."
Yeah hahahahha

My particular kayak doesn’t have that feature but there is a newer model that allows that
100% this. Legs are so much more powerful than arms. I can pedal for hours on end at 3.5 knots.
You're the author of the epic journeys in a kayak.
That must have been quite a workout with an electric motor. Whew!

the music with the drone….. nailed it
It's Alameda bro

Storage unit ? Cen Cal we call them Shipping Containers.. 🚢
I’ve always wondered what it would take to kayak across the bay. Thanks for the cool video. I bet you looked tiny from those container ships.
Definitely doable for you! Just have to plan the tides so you can use them to your advantage!
Do you ever have a light/a flashing light at the rear of your kayak? I always have one on my life vest, just to make sure everyone sees me. My old stomping grounds. Thanks for the great video.
I have a 360 light that I put up when I’m out in the dark
Awesome view with the drone of the city.
Glad you enjoyed it
Oakland? Looks like the launch I'm my little town of alameda 😂🤷🏾♂️

A nautical mile is longer at 6076.11 ft.
Yerba buena island, treasure island is the flat part on the other side.

You have guts being on the bay after 1pm..wind comes up everyday 30-40mph
Those ships are huge!
Thank you so much for that video. Cool journey on one battery!
Glad you liked it!
them arms look like jello but good trip!! still faster then driving 😂😢😢 good stuff Adam!
Storage boxes have to be 8’ or less wide if they’re to be put onto trailers and hauled on a highway.
SF Bay... with a China sound track...Please
Try Celebration , Good Times Instead

Alameda rock wall
I use to take the ferry from Jack London Square over to San Francisco. Couldn't imagine doing that on a kayak. I'm glad you made it save.
Very impressive to go across the bay in a kayak
Thanks!
What makes the halibut stop biting in winter? Water temp or is just a seasonal thing?
Water temp is the main factor I believe

Yeah the tides can be very strong there especially. Maybe some day!
across sf bay ? what region? it can be understood many different ways. SF bay doesn't have just 1 route.
I went from Oakland to San Francisco
Bummer to get skunked -- I also got skunked over the weekend despite limiting just the weekend before -- but still a very cool trip!
It happens to the best of us!
What type of kayak you have a pedals itself? Or go by yourself? What about pedaling?
I have an old town autopilot kayak. It has a built in trolling motor

Nice drone footage
Thanks 👍
the bigger cargo ships have upwards of five thousand 40' containers on board
Might be fun to see you do a fishing trip around Treasure Island, not sure you'd want to launch out of Oakland but hey never know.
Great idea!
who is paddling??
What size weight do you use in 70ft?
I would recommend 1 pound at a minimum if you are trolling
My biggest worry aboutnpurchasing oldtown ap, thats a large boat to row
Yeah it’s not the best but it can be done
How are you petaling with out oars!
I have a motored kayak, so I'm cheating a little
got ourselves an oldfashioned chocolate kind of guy. not sure what to think about that
You saved $7 not crossing the the Bay bridge. I found a new way to commute to work.🤑🤑🤑
We will be rich!
Is that the 12’ or 136?
120
What battery do you have?
Dakota lithium 100ah 12v

I have a commercial license that allows multiple rods in the bay

There's always a chance for sharks out there, paddle at your own risk!
Sorry, but those are shipping containers, not storage units.
My bad, thanks for the correction!
It's okay you have an old car

It's not kayaking the bay if it's motorized. Buy a hobie and man up
You should do a striper catch and cook.
