    I was in the hood for the first 21 years of my life. My mom still owns our old house and I visit her at least once a week to cut her grass and run errands for her. Going there keeps me grounded and I often chop it up with the kin folk. Some of them cats still live there and we're in our 30's now. The young cats are cool too. They never show me any disrespect because I always drop good game and they see what I do for my mom. My point is I like to set a good example for my people. We need more of it though.

    I agree. The streets represent a microcosm of what trends society at large is moving towards. You learn a lot just by observing people in their environments.

      The thing is that a person doesn't have to be of the streets just to pay attention.

    I'm one of those cats who grew up in the hood and the burbs. I was friends with thugs, jocks, lames and nerds. Those experiences enabled me to gain a greater perspective on life and they inform a lot of my opinions and observations about the black community and its relation to the larger society.

    Definitely gotta develop that street sense, but you gotta be careful who you associate with. Associating with the wrong people will make you a target. If you're doing better than most, it can get you set up. Be careful who you trust!

    I actually own the barbershop in the hood where I received my first haircut and it’s cool to interact with people from different backgrounds. I live in an affluent/ very decent area and what I’ve discovered is, we who grew up in the hood have the best of both worlds because we can mix in any environment. I raised my son in the suburbs but took him on a few visits to my hood and needless to say, he was not impressed however, I’ve instilled in him the ability to interact with people from all cultures and I sent him to Famu , which was culture shock for him but it re-enforced what I taught him. Thanks for the video bro, great as usual!!

    • @RomWills
      @RomWills  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That's the best way. Even D-Boys in the hood try to live in an affluent area.

    • @Reeferal

      The ability to interact with many different types of people is understated. We really do have that advantage.

    "Streets Is Talking" by Jay Z
    A man is going to get tested throughout his life. Hierarchies are a natural! So, you have to learn/know how to maneuver yourself throughout different environments.
    "You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend." -Bruce Lee

If "black people" are obedient to the social order and "niggas" are contrarians who exist on the fringes, then so-called "black people" wouldn't have the semblance of freedom that they enjoy today.

    Always on point video! I can definitely consent to this video because I have seen and witnessed some of the things you're saying in this video. I'm constantly witnessing it quite often! I'm from Detroit, the fashion city where you have some of the most materialistic gold diggish women, I can literally say that there are exceptions of the kind of men that some of these women choose to be with! That's why I always said how the game can get real tricky and how you can't always assume the validity of these women's mindset and the kind of men you think they're going to choose, that's usually the case a lot of times but not always where you know the kind of attitude these women have when it comes to the men they choose. Like you've said be aware and pay attention to what's going on especially in the streets! This always been my saying, I'm from the hood/streets but I'm not a part of it! I see what's going on! Just like the drug game, I know that game like the back of my head but chose not to be a part of it but get back to the subject! By me being observant, not narrow minded and thinking out of the box, I never be surprised when it comes women's choice of men because you can never completely figure out how, why and the kind of men women are going to choose! I've seen highly attractive women with some men who had a front tooth missing Rom but that's who they chose to be with! You know what you're talking about because I've had some highly attractive women give me the serious eye and I wasn't looking my best you remember when I told you those women stories some videos back! Yeah, even though women tell me I'm very handsome but I wasn't looking my best, this happened on several occasions like when I mentioned about cashing bottles in at the grocery store and had this real attractive light skinned chick giving me the strong eye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Rom with the truth and this is coming from a homebody type a guy. My nature itself isn't to explore too much because i'm just not that. The most excitement for me is reading and book and debating amongst friends but it took exploration to realize that that's who I am. What's funny about this (well funny to me personally) is I use play for money on madden as a kid and I remember adults who never experienced me play would have all these crazy theories on how to beat me and lose al their money and my uncle would rake up thousands and threw me a few sandwiches. But I remember an old cat said to one older guy when he was talking " You're brain is telling you do something that experience is going to teach you not to do". Basically you can have all these theories on how to beat this boy but experience is going to teach you otherwise. Same thing applies to life theories are cool but experience is the test of your theory.

    I always spend time exploring the rough areas of a city. I prefer to rotate through these environments fully dressed professionally without downgrading my appearance. I keep my tastes low maintenance, and will always enjoy a forty on purpose. I'm convinced that most guys have not progressed past highschool based upon their experiences. Based upon what I've seen, women stop choosing players, Pookie & Ray/Ray after about 25y/o if they can do better.

    Although I understand the point of this post Rom, that is not what Shantam Nityama meant. He explained in a separate video that the same presence, sense of awareness and focus that you use in the streets to stay safe and out of danger should be transferred to the bedroom when having sex with a woman.

    • @RomWills
      @RomWills  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've spoken to him personally and know his background. I know what he meant directly. You're speaking of one aspect of it.

    ...wow I finally have found a vid by the field master I disagree with. The streets are overrated as fuck man..i seen white dudes with no heart at all ride out of from the suburbs get a job as a cop and come into the "streets" and make the dibos and pookie and ray rays run off the block on sight.They take all of these ninjas machismo (Ain't nobody gonna tell me shit!) right out of em. They will typically have grown ass rusty men stuttering and snitching, even crying.. so for me, When u are successfully backing these overseers down then u can talk to me about the streets being something I need to respect.. Don't get me wrong,I was born and raised in these streets,up and down the east coast. From Atlanta to the DMV ,to Brooklyn NYC and everywhere in between. But mark my words,I have not learned any of the things that will carry me into old age and on to better possibilities in the streets. More than likely u learn a lot of shhh u later have to unlearn out there..The people who have something I need to know are not going to be on the block trying to serve it. Most of us who focus on the streets never leave them..and that is problematic..Every hood is full of dudes who ain't never left they block but think they know it all. So why do they never see past where the 1% ers have told them to look? I would say know ur environment wherever that happens to be but stop romanticizing that shhh. Those of us who come from the streets but had the depth and luck to put ourselves in a bigger picture do not give a damn what the streets is saying. And that's because if ur a black man, the streets is a TRAP! Speaking generally, There are no 401K'$, band-aids or ANSWERS coming up out of that shhh. Those of u who think otherwise can have that shhh. It's all yours.

      I respect that. That's for disagreeing in an intelligent thought out manner. You made many great points and I appreciate viewpoints that can expand my perspective.
