Since I arrived in the Philippines I got many comments from you guys recommending me to try lechon. It's one of the most popular foods here and quite famous. I heard that there is a very popular lechon place here in Cebu, so I had to give it a try. The place is called "Rico's lechon" and many locals told me that it's the best place in Cebu to eat lechon. All I know so far about lechon is that it's pork and a popular filipino food. Let's find out more...

My husband and his family taught me how to cook pork and sauerkraut and told me to cooked it every New Year’s Day for good luck. I’ve been cooking it for 32 years now. His father’s family are from Germany but we live here in the US, there’s a town named to their family and mostly living there has the same last name of ours.

Root beer is like Sarsaparilla/Sarsi. US fast food A&W chain's signature drink is their Root beer icream float. Most others copy it. Similar to ginger beer in origin, a herbal root "beer"

Try to visit Beaches in Tabuelan, Malapascua, Bantayan Island, there is cold spring in Tabugon, Kawasan Falls in Badian. Omg too many places to visit in Cebu. Have fun but stay safe and be very careful.

WOW, THE BEST CEBU LECHON YUMMY, enjoy man.
The lechon looks very yummy and delicious. Also the pork looks very freshly cook and of good quality. I miss eating there in Rico's lechon. I only ate there one time in cebu for a vacation wish i can come back there. Also the root beer is a softdrink/carbonated drink it is like PEPSI, COKE it just a unique flavor for softdrinks. One of my favorite German dishes is schweinshaxe which is crispy roasted pork knuckle. There is a similar dish you can try in the Philippines called crispy pata. It's usually served with atchara which is a sweet shredded green papaya pickle and it would be very similar to eating sauerkraut with pork
As you can see Ken there's a lot of delicious food in the Phils. you may try next the PORK SISIG, SINIGANG, we have pork sinigang, or shrimp sinigang and fish sinigang, you may also try the Crispy pata and a lot more, you will discover some of it as you travel the different island in the Phils. There are plenty of different foods in every different places, just don't hesitate to ask the locals anytime

That's one thing special about Lechon, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Also, the way Filipinos eat usually is we put the food on top of the rice then scoop it with spoon with a help of the fork. Or you can scoop rice then put the food on top of the rice. Enjoy Cebu! :)

If you're interested in seeing a breathtaking view of Cebu from the mountaintops, try the Tops lookout of Cebu. A few minutes away is the Temple of Leah, a Greek-inspired temple.
For a more modern side of Cebu City, do visit Ayala Mall in Cebu Business Park and Sugbo Mercado in I.T. Park.

Iligan Lechon is also very good. They cook native pigs/boars. They even dont give sauce or condiments as it will only ruin the taste and i couldnt agree more . The best lechon for me.

The sauce, go for “ Mang Tomas Lechon Sauce. It is the best!! You have put calamansi and vinegar together,hence, it made Double jeopardy.

You can add root beer to a couple scoop of vanilla icecream. Mix them well. It becomes thick drink. It's my lovely root beer float.

We Pinoys love to eat with our hands esp at home. Also you mix a bit of rice and the main entree in your fork or spoon and not separately.

Yes, us locals in CEBU definitely eat lechon with our hands when at home or with family. No need for forks. You are now in PIG HEAVEN!!! Tell the guy in Visaya "Boss lamia imong Lechon oi! " Balik ghud ko unya dong! LOL
As a Cebuano, my favorite lechon place is Cnt :D
Hi Ken.. There's no need to put vinegar in your dipping sauce because the calamansi already gives the sour taste, just soy sauce, calamansi & chili if desired. Every Filipino food is eaten with rice. Most of the foods have strong salty or intense flavour, so rice is the balancer and makes one appreciate the food even better. Also Filipinos and other southeast asians eat with the spoon :). Fork is the westerner's. Foreigners like these kind of infos. Enjoy!

I have tried Lechon in one of the Filipino stall in Singapore before. They taste is pretty similar like how the Chinese serve BBQ pork & Grilled Pork which you can find at the Chicken Rice stall. Still I reckon it was quite an experience to try it in the Phillippines. Looking forward to the road trip for more off the beaten path adventures..... Stay safe, Ride safely and take care...... So, Pinoy national MUST TRY dish or delicacy, Lechon (Roast whole pig - essentially almost the same as roast pork in Thailand, Malaysia and any oriental Asian countries....), ADOBO! is a style of Pinoy cooking of meat, usually Chicken and Pork.... MUST TRY, actually it's also very similar to many Asian style cooking, basically with vinegar, sugar and some spies, braised with meat. It's nice and decent. Finally, MUST TRY Balut! I know, I know, you've already left Philippines....

The one you had in Manila was Lechon Kawali mixed in pares soup. Lechon kawali is deep fried, whereas the one you had just now is slow pit roasted over charcoal.
The lechon in soup you tried before is called lechon kawali (deep fried chunk of pork). Cebu lechon is flavorful on its own and is fine too eat even without dipping sauce. The lechon in manila is different also its more bland and should be dipped in lechon sauce ( gravy ) both tastes different but equally delicious.
Lechon in soup is called "lechon paksiw" n Cebu.
Guten tag, wie geht's? If you are still driving south of Cebu, try going to Carcar public market, that's where the original and the epicenter of Cebu Lechon. Also, try ordering side dishes with it, like Atsara (shredded fermented papaya salad) chop suey greens, dinugo-an (blood sausage in liquid form) kinilaw (Filipino tuna Ceviche) Just try ordering small portions, It's the combination of food that would make you appreciate Lechon more. Btw don't miss Tumalog falls while you are in Oslob, it's a beautiful place!

If you are looking for some of the best Lechon in Cebu, then drive south and go to Carcar City. When you get there visit the local market. There are many stalls there selling Lechon. I think Carcar city has the best lechon in Cebu province. Also don't forget to try Carcar's Chicharon (Pork skin crackling). For sure you will like it. Enjoy Cebu and stay safe Ken.
