Geddy has been grieving with the loss of his band, the loss of Neil, the loss of his mom..all the other crap (Covid, etc). That’s a tough 5 years and I get when he says you need to hold on to the feelings, memories, emotions that one remembers because that’s not forever..it must be passed down or it’s gone.
I think Geddy might have found his new calling. A story teller. He is good at this. Talks about the obvious with Rush, but does an amazing job taking about the trials and tribulations of life.
I also think there is a comedian living inside of Geddy that’s SCREAMING to be let out… and I think his “BFF”, as he calls him, can help that comedian that’s been living dormant all this time find his way out into our dimension just like how in the EVIL DEAD series, Ash recited the passages from the Necronomicon unleashing the unseen evil that lurks in man’s domain 😂
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!! This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
Oh man, his story about missing that Hendrix show reminds me of the one and only opportunity I'd had to see Rush in concert in person (in Germany, during the 'Roll The Bones' tour) and due to my job at the time not taking it and _also_ thinking, "But I'll definitely catch them on their _next_ Germany tour!" - by which time I'd already migrated to New Zealand, and they'd never ever been on tour there! 😭🙂
Having learned drumset from Neil since 1980, I know how irreplaceable he is. To have a drumming/literary giant in one body is exceptionally rare. But you have to believe he told Alex & Getty to carry on after he'd gone. And like Paul McCartney said "they should because their both too talented not to".
I know this is for the book promotion, but these conversations would be so much better if done in a studio. The audience yelling shit and being overly enthusiastic is distracting from what would be a deep and personal conversation. yeah, i'm a selfish asshole. 😉
Back in 74 Getty was on it. Getting together a new band after being weakly, briefly dismissed. I have no doubt it would have been a great one. More successful than Rush 1.0. The Stones & McCartney are still touring in their 80's! Having the time of their lives. Willie Nelson at 90! RUSH 3.0 could be So, so incredible! Just sayin.
I herd tell the band thought they could get Alvin of the Chipmunks and fired Ged. But by then Alvin was snorting rat poison and thought Alex was the best looking girl he had ever seen. But by then Alex had stopped snorting capacitor dust and had come to his senses. Well mostly. You can't have a sense of humor like his without some damage. Or maybe he was smoking capacitor dust. Anyway, good times..

As a fellow Canuck, Rush is a shining star, all the members are respected musicians and true Canadian lads
a shining star ... in the shape of a maple leaf!
As a native Kansas City guy (Paul Rudd, #JOCO, #SMSD #SMN1980), all the feels. Saw Rush in Long Beach 1981 Moving Pictures tour. Love this.

My favourite band for my whole effin life!!!
Such a wild life Geddy has had, and not one grey hair on his head, amazing.
Well...there is a reason for that I'm sure...
@@Mozart1220 Because he's Jewish?
Thank you so much for this-such a tremendous blessing for those of us who were unable to attend. 🙏🏻♥️

Thanks for posting this!
Did they "Slap da Bass"? Geddy is a gem.
Can’t wait to see Geddy in LA at the Orpheum Theatre! 🎸

Teddy is 🇨🇦Canadian class all the way and down to earth.
Somewhat ironic that Rutsey wanted Ged out considering what wound up happening with Rush...
Remember jack black in school of rock " well you can kiss my epic ass!" Cymbals crashing😅
Awesome. Is Rudd just involved with this one or is he going to do them all.
I think it’s a different interviewer in every stop

Canadian guys don't need to have Chutzpah (Yiddish!) in conversation. Unless their Matt Perry. Getty's singing & bass playing brings all of that.
How many people can say they actually saw Hadrian gig?

I honestly think bigger chairs would have added more to the conversation. Oh and ferns definitely ferns
'Yeah, i'm a selfish asshole.' You're not wrong.
And the audio isn't great.
