      Honestly you can play with jitter clicking or play long like the combat update the only problem is the shield i think a way to fix this would be have the field have active frames start up and endlag, like when you shield you have a small "counter" window where if you block an attack in that window you can attack right away other wise it will take a little to put your shield down and if you hold it ,it just reduces damage and slows you down,

    As someone who actually prefers 1.9 combat over 1.8, I still feel like this is definitely an improvement and step in the right direction. Tons of people were unhappy with the changes 1.9 brought so I feel this is the best of both worlds. • @laserslime

      As someone who actually prefers 1.9 combat over 1.8, I completely disagree. There's already a huge playerbase for 1.9+ pvp and that playerbase (just like 1.8), already spent hours mastering it. Making a 3rd combat system would be a huge mistake in my opinion. It will just cause another split in the pvp community, which is completely unnecessary, as both 1.8 and 1.9 players have no reason to switch since they've already spent so much time mastering their current system. It will just repeat the same controversy again for a second time.

Combining that with better hunger mechanics, stacking potions, and a more interesting array of weapons to choose from, it's just refreshing to play, and will hopefully be pretty uncontroversial among 1.9 players or even break up the monotony of 1.8 combat in large servers.

    Can't believe 1.9 is still being talked about so much! I did try and like the new combat snapshots, but I think that 1.9 is much less complicated and more intuitive. A player can join a practice server like PvP Legacy and have fun without prior experience. Are newer players going to have to master a (by nature) more complicated combat system? I've been getting into 1.9 combat and it's not as bad as people make it out to be. The combat has really refined into new and emerging pvp scenes, especially with crystal/anchor pvp. It just takes more time to get used to than 1.8. But 1.9 and 1.8 have always had much more straightforward combat scenes for newer/bedrock players. I'm interested to see what would happen if this version was publicly released. Very excited though as the more "fun" combat system leads to better longevity!
    Only problem I can see with this update is that we'll probably get chat reporting with these snapshots so if you wanted to use the combat snapshots, you'd have to resort to a version where you're prone to chat reports. Could cause a HUGE division in the Minecraft community, bigger than 1.9's changes.

    • @oshotz
      @oshotz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As someone who mains 1.8, I quite like the combat update changes. It makes things such as positioning, hit timing (meaning not always attacking even when your weapon is fully charged), knockback, etc. important again, rather than solely focusing on aim as 1.9 PVP does.
      1.9 PVP has always felt too slow for me, and for void/height based games (bedwars, skywars, wool wars, etc) and games where you regularly take on multiple people at once (the Pit, etc), 1.9 PVP simply doesn't make sense.
      Sure, the snapshot updates might not be the most intuitive, but I don't think current 1.8 and 1.9 metas are either, tbh. 1.8 has a fairly high learning curve due to sprint resetting, hit selection, CPS and positioning playing a huge role, etc. 1.9 is certainly more intuitive, but shields and weapon choice can still be quite confusing. The main issue with it is that it's just way, way too slow.
      That's just my opinion though, I'm sure others have differing thoughts :)

    • @peelyboi
      @peelyboi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I main/play competitively in both versions. Positioning and movement are both very important skills in 1.9+ and it happens to be one of the few that transition over when learning 1.9+ from 1.8. Especially with combat without shields (and any higher level combat, for that matter) you'll need a good amount of movement. Same goes with sprint resetting.
      1.8's kb system is an interesting one. On one hand, kb is something crucial in games like skywars and in a PVP setting a fishing rod tends to help. But on the other, people don't actually like kb items like the fishing rod at higher levels of the game. As you progress into more 'complicated/standard' modes such as NoDebuff, you'll notice they don't have a fishing rod simply because it's unpopular at that stage in the game. It's also not included in Bedwars.
      While 1.9 does put an emphasis on aim, I'd say the biggest change with the version was the hit timing itself. The attack cooldown paces attacks and if you can learn to play with the pace, it starts to feel less slow. Using an axe would also affect your pacing. In gamemodes like FFA with 1.9, it actually works surprisingly well. Of course, teaming in any version Is likely to get you killed anyway. In a 2v1 though, you can still deal with it in 1.9 by using sprint resets/other things to separate the two and just start spam critting one out. In that case you'd have to be better than the other 2 players, but that's the same case in 1.8.
      A less experienced 1.8 player would most likely not have to learn hit selection or click 20CPS to win their bedwars game. Yes, those are things that help the experience and with time and practice, but they aren't so difficult to learn once you start getting experience and realize those are things in the game. A less experienced player will probably have to learn sprint resetting though, which honestly isn't too difficult and has so many different methods of doing it. And it works across versions.
      1.9 Combat is not so complicated either.
      --> When you have a totem + ench armour, don't use a shield & use sword
      --> When you don't have totem + ench armour, use a shield & axe
      Slightly varies above, but for the most part it's not so difficult.
      In a lobby with the combat update (given that you're new) will probably result in instant death if you don't have prior experience with the game, let alone the snapshot. Instead of worrying about letting go and rehitting w every hit, they're thinking "when should I quick charge with my sword? what's the timing for a parry combo? what even is reach? does that automatically make the trident the best weapon?" Even for a player like TheMisterEpic, it did take him some time to get used to the snapshot. Maybe a public release would show better how the experience would be like for newer/less experienced players.

    I think one thing the 1.8 PVP community often forgets is that, because of how open and large Minecraft is as a game, PVP is just a subsection of the overall game community, and that while 1.9 combat might not excel at PVP, it does provide a more interesting PVE experience (in my opinion), and I worry that their idea of how the 1.9 combat is perceived as a whole may be negatively skewed due to only hearing bad things about it from people who nearly exclusively play PVP minigame modes on servers like Hypixel. The majority of the player base has no reason to discuss it because the way that they play the game, whether PVE survival or even just creative mode, is more enhanced by the 1.9 combat. Different weapons excel in different PVE scenarios, such as swords for sweeping hordes of weaker enemies, axes for focusing single stronger targets, and tridents for underwater combat. Of course, the PVP community has the same right to enjoy Minecraft in their own way as anyone else does, and I think a 3rd system that satisfies both parties with unique weapon traits, pros, and cons while also allowing for quick and exciting combat to ideally please everyone would be a great idea.

      Agreed, unfortunately it is the PvP Community that has been the most vocal about the 1.9 combat changes, and it doesn't help that many voices are just complaining instead of providing constructive feedback. Most casual players of minecraft aren't as passionate about the combat aspect. After it is Minecraft not PvP simulator with some mining and crafting.

    The thing is, a “less controversial system of pvp” by its very nature, can not exist. No matter what they do at this point, there will always be people who prefer 1.9 combat, it’s been around for far too long now for people to just let it go (just like the 1.8 community was when 1.9 first came out).There will also be the same community of people who refuse to update past 1.8 even IF the pvp system receives a major overhaul. And if they DO change pvp again, it won’t solve problems or unite communities, it will create more problems and divide the community further. Having 2 types of pvp was controversial sure, but 3?! If they don’t do this perfectly for both the casual players and the hardcore pvp players at the same time, it won’t end well.

    Something I noticed in the footage for the PvP servers is that there are quite a few players that use their left hand to attack and their right hand to block. I knew this setting has existed for a while, but I didn't think that many people used it. I wonder if those players are actually left handed in real life or if they see an advantage in having their left hand as their main hand.

    • @98yoshi98
      @98yoshi98 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I can't speak for Minecraft PVP specifically, I've always used left handed view models in first person games whenever available. This is mainly due to a habit from FPS games like Counter Strike where it was traditional.
      The idea is that humans have eye dominance. In my case, I'm right eye dominant, which is a way to say that I use my right eye with higher priority than my left. As a result, things on the left side of the screen are less obtrusive. By keeping my weapons on that side of the screen, it's easier to focus on the environment I'm playing in. That's the idea anyway.
      That said, I hesitate to think this is the actual reason since shields are much larger than swords are in Minecraft and actually take up more space on screen.

    personally, I really love 1.9 pvp because it gives players that just want to play casually a chance and makes it so you wont wear out your mouse as fast. also, and this is just my opinion, but nearly every feature in the combat snapshots seams the worst of both worlds, for example if potions can stack that makes them so much more overpowered because normally to have a retinal of potions it takes up a large portions of your inventory, also if you can get interrupted from eating that will make healing 10 times more difficult and that is a huge detriment, especially to hardcore players, who want to stay alive.

    • @shawermus
      @shawermus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there it's weapon throw mechanics, but I still wouldn't say that it's actually a good idea.
      Because:
      1 - Tridents would become kinda useless.
      2 - you basically sacrifice a whole weapon(maybe with enchants) for 1.25x damage and longer range. And no, it's not like throwing a weapon wouldn't make you lose it if it wasn't at point blank range *and* if it wouldn't drop as a regular item.
      Maybe with axes it could be kinda useful but otherwise a meh mechanic.
      However if instead of increased damage it could be used as a combo breaker then it would have some potential... Like making opponent slower or his weapons on short cooldown.
      Problem with your idea it's that you're trying to add something that's already in the game in a form of Trident and bows. And pvp it's mostly close range, long range options are just isn't needed that much

      @old channel In this whole paragraph that I had difficulty to read due to the high amount of spelling mistake, I saw only two ACTUAL point
      1 - A new system was and will happen, the 1.8 combat had many flaws (like cps being a physical skill which meant that some people just can't have that skill) and so 1.9 tried to remove those problem, but in the process created other problem and so people got angry (Like you do right now with the combat test), the combat test tried to fix the flaw of 1.9 by inserting the good thing of 1.8 and fixing some other things
      2 - The healing blocking, while an annoying mechanic at first, avoid player chugging 20 Notch Apple and 3 stack of Golden Apple and make fights 50x longer then it should (which is a problem with BOTH pvp type btw, tho 1.9 do get slowed down more due to it being slower in general)
      In any case, let's talk about the other "points" that you bring
      1 - I am guessing by "cpvp" you mean "competitive pvp" or "click pvp"? With how many spelling error, I can't even know if it's a spelling error or not so I can't argue against it without further info
      In any case, you say that the combat test ruin "cpvp" and "pvp methods", but how?
      2.1 - Those "Stupid and Useless" mechanic that you can't say that makes the version an hybride of 1.8 and 1.9 is intentional. The goal was the bring the good part of both combat, good job for finding something that was already known AND was mentioned in this video
      2.2 - Oh and also, again, you just say that the mechanic are useless/stupid without even mentioning WHY they are like that
      3 - Again, saying that 20% of the things suck without saying why is meaningless
      In other words, bring actual argument instead of bitching on everything for the sake of it

    • @itzangel0735
      @itzangel0735 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @old channel Yeah, there are some problems like the fact that you cant eat while fighting or how the regen works, the shield is something people dont like too; but as an idea I like a lot the core of the new combat mechanic, it can feel weird but after playing for a bit you'll find the trick.
      I like that it tries to have the best parts of 1.8 and +1.9 combat, so spam clicking isn't the way to win always, you can try differents strategies like trying to do perfect timings, then holding or even spam clicking in a determinated moment might work, I also like that all the "weapons" are useful and you can master how to use all of them, overall with the problems it has I think that we're going in the right direction.
      Now I ask, have you tested it for a good amount of time in a server?

    • @itzangel0735
      @itzangel0735 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @old channel 1.8 combat is not all about spam clicking, but you cant deny it's a very important part of it.
      A new combat system is very important right now, specially for parity with bedrock, because 1.9 might be very confusing for new players and Mojang dont want to go back to 1.8 system because for PvE it's too simple, thar's why a new combat system is needed, it's not all about PvP.
      Im not a profesional at PvP in 1.8 or 1.9 or any version because it isn't what I most play, but I can defend myself pretty good in a fight at any version; so I want the best possible combat for the game and to do that we need to give our feedback, to tell what needs to change, what have to be added or removed; but something that the game really needs is a new combat system that works FOR EVERYONE, pros, new players, casual players, for PvE, everyone. And what I most want is server to update to the lastest version, there is so much potential for new minigames and stuff in servers that is wasted because they are stuck in 1.8.

    - Holding attack should be less optimal (currently it attacks with only 1 tick imperfection over timing swings, change to 2/3?)
    - Anvils should be able to apply weapon enchants to tools as they could previously - I need a sharp 5 hoe.

    I think Minecraft should have something like development channels, that you can change between. For example, you would have a channels for combat system, or other (non)controversial stuff that needs changes. When there's a lot of agreement and stability, it would be merged into the game release. Similar thing you can see on open source software (git branching, for example).
    This would allow the playerbase to also work on the game with feedback, which is a crucial thing for games like Minecraft.

    The combat in Minecraft is so simple yet they could mess it up so much. By just adding the shield and the charged attacks. I like to see there was planned to combinate both, as I like the idea of charged attacks. I hope to see this added for all them PVP peebs out there.

      @TurtleAndSandwiches I will say though that's still only two mechanics that really determine PVP outcome - cps and strafing. Basically just how fast can you swing and how fast you can strafe back and forth. 1.9 definitely has its own set of specific things to master for good combat outcomes, but its a tad more varied than just two basic click based mechanics.

      1.9 combat literally takes no skill. That’s why people who were bad at 1.8 pvp like it so much any 1.8 pvper can still be good at 1.9 pvp but not the other way around. 1.9 pvp is literally hit or miss and depending on who gets the first few combos basically wins the whole fight as 1.8 pvp is way more skill and technique based with different types of clicking methods, jitter clicking, butter fly clicking, drag clicking etc and needing to be a fast inventory manager mid fight to switch pots, soups etc and other strafing methods like W tapping, S tapping, back and fourth strafing etc. 1.8 pvp is absolutely not all cps based because someone who’s a 5 cps can still beat a 15 cps player if they master all these other techniques

    The ideal shield:
    1. NO CROUCH TO ACTIVATE. This only blocks vision and becomes really annoying when exploring. Holding RMB is so much better.
    2. Ability to attack while holding RMB. This would temporarily drop the shield, making you vulnerable. The strike could also be delayed slightly, making the animation match the action while allowing a counter attack for quick players.
    3. The shield blocks all low amounts of damage, but higher damage, say a creeper explosion or a sword, would only be reduced, with higher damage being reduced less. Any projectile that hits the shield would be reflected or destroyed, depending on the projectile, without dealing damage to the user. This essentially makes the player a tank, with the shield acting as extra armor and nullifying or reducing knockback.
    This encourages a playstyle that is flexible, allowing the shield user to be like a tank or use it to escape combos, giving a good tool. Against a shield user, axes would not only disable, but also damage the player, giving the shield risk and reward. The shielding player would still take damage from the sword as well.

      @profx33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's still being slowly and secretly worked in the background, another big reason why the update would take longer is bedrock edition and it's multiple device platforms. If any of you follow the betas, you'll see that the phone controls are being worked on and changed, and we can all agree that the phones would be the hardest to implement combat changes on. Everyone is welcoming the change cause it's time we got more modern controls but they overlook that this could be tied to the combat update (potentially).

  • @Naretek

    I think that too many people forget that combat mechanics are not JUST for pvp, it’s actually incredibly important for regular survival minecraft. The pvp community is big, but it’s tiny compared to the number of players who play survival. Survival mode combat (ie pve) ALWAYS has to come first, and 1.9 combat, while maybe worse for pvp, is I think in general much better for survival mode/pve.
    Hopefully Mojang can find a system in these combat snapshots which is best for survival AND pvp. Although (especially given Mojang’s recent performances), I do fear that a lack of communication with players could lead to further splintering the playerbase into 3 - people who prefer pre 1.9, post 1.9 or the new system.

  • @thedoggoboi1979
    @thedoggoboi1979 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a few ideas on how to tweak the system to make it more variable and dynamic
    basic ideas:
    pickaxes do tons of damage to armor, and somewhat ignoring it, however it does less damage as a downside.
    hoes are fast and quick, with sweeping attacks allowing players to speedily blitz in and do some damage, however a single attack is weak.
    axes and swords remain unchanged, i have no problem with them.
    shovels do loads of knockback, good for fighting at high areas where a drop could easily mean death
    crossbows can have punch.
    bows would remain relatively unchanged, however power would make arrows shot by the bow go faster, as either a drawback or an advantage, skilled users should be able to use it.
    Loyalty tridents thrown when in the offhand will come back to the offhand, allowing for dual wield PvP

The first batch were released after 1.14, the second batch were released after 1.15, and the third batch were released after 1.16. Caves and Cliffs was an exception like you said because it was a big update that they ran into problems with, but since that’s out and 1.19 is also out, I think now they have the opportunity to revisit them before we get the announcement of 1.20

    All they need to do is take the newer version and make the hit speed faster, and go back to the old KB. They can keep the hit timing meter thing for all I care. And for those who complain about ping being important, just learn to hit select. It also wouldn't be terrible if there was a minimum hit ping of 50.
