I am a Chinese American who grew up in Taiwan. One thing most American could not understand about Chinese is our desire to be proud again. Every Chinese child learned the humiliation to China since 1840 and is shamed of our collective weakness. Chinese culture teaches peace and prosperity for all humans. We don't understand why the West would invade us, nor we want to be a superpower doing the same thing to others. All Chinese wants is to be respected again as equal. This collective desire is why Chinese people supports their government, believing in common good for all humans, not just Chinese. This collective desire is why all individual Chinese studies hard and works hard. Be good!

The term "Belt and Road Initiative" is for the uninitiated.
For the Chinese, it's called "One Belt, One Road" which is an analogy.
"One Belt" means Unity, and "One Road" means Purpose.
Hence, China is striving for a "Unity of Purpose" among disparate nations to achieve a "Shared Destiny for Mankind"

Thank you for this beautiful explanation which should be explained more widely to the world through CGTN and all media platforms of the BRI member countries. "Unity of Purpose" among disparate nations to achieve a "Shared Destiny for Mankind" to start with BRICS and the Global South and then the Western world should they wish to join a shared prosperity in this world.

Given the fact current divided world that each nation trying to gain edge over the others, especially that deep rooted Pax Americana behold, I highly doubt it will succeed. Kevin, I have been avid follower of your absolutely phenomenal, videos. As an ABC, I frequently travel to China, at least 15x in the past 40 years and have bore witness to the miraculous changes, and to my dismay, the increasingly vitriolic and belligerent relations with the US and collective West. IMHO, you are spot on in your China analysis which is refreshingly free of anti-China rhetoric so prevalent in the Western narrative. I painfully follow the current events with unease, as I see each side making ever closer steps to violent confrontation. Irrespective of the measures which the West imposes, I too see the top hegemon losing ground as China continues its re-emergence on the world scene. Thank-you for your efforts!

@@gelinrefira Actuallly those might be a bit misleading. Although the current Chinese system does maintain certain communist/socialist characteristics, it's actually a complex one that mixes socialism, capitalism, and even a bit Confucianism, which China refers to as "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics." Pure communism doesn't work, and China's unsuccessful economic initiatives during the first few decades after its founding in 1949 were a direct result of following pure communist ideology. However, the leadership learned its lesson and corrected its course. With the current Chinese system, you basically get the best of two worlds. You have a virant private sector that contributes greatly to innovation and economic growth. On the other hand, you have a one-party political structure that ensures continuation of policy agendas. Most importantly, without election, politicians only get promoted through actual achievements such as improving people's livelihood. Since they don't need money to run elections, Chinese politicians control capitalists, not the other way round (like in those so-called "democratic" countries). This way, politicians actually serve the average citizen (instead of big corporations). That's the main difference between China and the US. Judging by the current world situation, it's clear which system is winning and which is losing.

It all grew so quickly because it's not the emergence of China, but RE-emergence of China. There are memories of having been successful at all of these things -- grand ambitious constructions (Great Wall, ancient huge irrigation projects, etc); business ventures stretching across half the world; diplomacy; a reasonably efficient bureaucracy; the concept of the mandate of heaven where the leader must serve the people or heaven will withdraw its favor and rightly lose their high positions, etc. etc. The fundamental know-how remained alive and well, just needs updating with new knowledge and information. All of that instills the confidence (even though much suppressed in the 100 years of wars and turbulence) that if it happened before, not once not twice but multiple times, then it can and will happen again.

The original meaning of chinaman, a free lesson for you and birthday boy Kevin
Chinaman, as well as silkman and teaman, were the names for European aristocracies used by the commoner Europeans for thousands of years because they were the only Europeans who could afford china, silk, and tea.
So, Chinaman is a term of admiration to Europeans.
You must have heard of a type of furniture called a china cabinet. You may even own one and display your favorite china in it. Of course, you may not because they aren't cheap, and many Western families don't own one.
Similarly, the meaning of Christianity used to be Godless because Romans had their God. The Asianman who crawled out of the virgin's pussy wasn't considered God in both Israel and Rome, of course, including Europe.

The simplest answer to how China has achieved its current success is that without the Communist Party of China, there would be no New China.
A slightly longer answer is that since 1840(not past 30 or 40 years), China has been exploring ways to survive and save itself, from a constitutional monarchy to a capitalist republic to the current socialist republic. China has spent more than 100 years and paid a heavy price in blood and tears to find a system and leadership system that suits its national conditions. At least from the results, the current system is in the national interests of China.
From a micro perspective, it is China's self-exploitation, starting with the exploitation of peasants, to accumulate capital, attach importance to education, develop industry, and then feed back into agriculture. The diligence and hard work of the Chinese people and their focus on long-term goals have played an extremely important role in this process. Of course, foreign capital has also played a role in China's development by injecting capital and technology to make profits and promote China's development.

Similar to you I am ex military, moved to China 12 years ago and have lived and am working here. Loved what I saw in China, the people and the society.
Also like you I find the US more and more difficult to go back to. My last trip in February was to both San Francisco and my childhood home in New Hampshire. I was shocked to see people sleeping on the Main Street of Manchester in February! In San Francisco I expected this but not in New Hampshire.
It is truly disappointing to see how morally degraded the country is. Especially in the politics.
What is hard to accept is that the countries I was always taught were totalitarian and abusive to their people are actually more humanistic and align better with me morally than my home country.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. They are to the point and informative. I appreciate that you respect time.

Every argument that he makes is substantiated by in-depth analysis, insightful reports and articles as well as statistical data. Kevin is not biased as other Western mainstream media. As a student of history, to me it's not unusual that China came from behind and fully recovered in as little as 40 years (for the current administration, it actually took longer as mistakes were made after employing a foreign idea). Look at China's dynastic past and you'll know. With peace, there is prosperity. It sounds very cliche, but to the Chinese, it's simple as that. Happy birthday btw! Hope all is well in China.

The U.S. need to collaborate using a new smart foreign investment JV vehicle that both countries holds 50% of the new JV company (Copying China), we can share the new techs and profits and at the same time solidify trust with these new form of collateral. It takes China 20 hard working years to build this supply chain, it would be impossible for us to do it alone without this supply chain, we don't have 20 years or the money to do it. We just have to face the reality and do what we are good at, because we are the best story teller in the world and that is our biggest assets to any foreign brands. You have the best financial channel on YT, I have been there and done that for the past 20 years myself, I am shaking my head everyday.

Except that American pride blocks the possibilities of JV. The supply chain is not to be grabbed except by wars because most of the countries prefers doing business with China who thinks win-win. What American need to realise is that our system is not efficient enough to be competitive nor desirable in term of bringing benefits to all citizens. But, this is such a fundamental change in governing concept which would change only in despair.

And today, it is still those christian countries that wants China to break apart and creating wars in other parts of the world. If you are a christian, it does not means that you are a good person as it can accommodate evil and good, it just means that you are a person that believe in christ. The same thing with all the other religion.

As Chinese my bias view of our culture is we are builders historically from great wall to great canal, and we're prideful of our heritage!
What China has now is aspirational drive. As Lee Kuan Yew said that sense of revival is very powerful and it's my sense Chinese government will keep applying many Western practices incorporating it with its socialism visions like common prosperity concepts to keep this train going!
Appreciate Kaven for giving up insight on business side of all things!
Hybrid of planned economy like setting goals for specifics industries development and providing support and incentives to private sectors prove powerful like rapid development of EVs and batteries,!
Unless you search for specific industries experts about China, you will fall victim to Western media or politicians narratives, for example one expert on EVs stated 2 years ago Chinese EVs are coming and here we are!
Channel like Kavin's or China Global South Projects channels with true information about China are rare!
China does has messaging deficiency, may be because of lack of English speakers getting their messages out to the world and demonizing of Chinese governments made channels like CGTN just propaganda even if they're reporting facts!
For example, reading one commenter on a homeless in China videos, one foreigners stated in city where he live in China governments provide vocational traning like construction field to get homeless off the street so to speak! Or a Westerner familiar with certain local pilot experimental programs on social credits happened but may had scrapped and became national programs by CCP for Western media which does not fact check and was repeated thousands of time and became facts!
Quite depressing to watch Western media as they're just sound bite machines for attentions and views for sensationalism rather than investigative reporting!

I was in China in 2011 as part of a trip required by the Kennesaw State University where I accomplished an MBA. China really impressed me! There is no question that they had become the model for progress in the future while we here in the US still struggling to understand that the World has changed and that we need to learn cooperation instead of using intimidating strategies to get away with control and power over the World.
