Sure - spin doctors have always existed. However, New labour was the turning point where British politics became nothing but a media / image carnival and this man was instrumental in that change. I think a lot of present turmoil is a result of the British public trying to get their political culture back after this man killed it and replaced it with something useless
I think you should watch last speech of Malcolm F Tucker. There he explains what politics has become and it's no ones fault but ours. So how dare he to put this at his doorstep like he's the criminal mastermind behind all the bad things that happened since then. Social Media and Cambridge Analytica fluffed us even more.
Do you really think that the way politics is communicated is entirely down to a cabal of people like Campbell? They don't operate in a vacuum, the environmental conditions of the modern world has necessited this media obsessed, image conscious form of political management because absolutely everything is recorded and noted by the general public and parties can lose an election over their leader eating a bacon sandwich. We call them incompetent if they can't media manage and we call them image obessessed when they're good at it; maybe we as a country need to take a long hard look at our values and start picking our politicians on things that matter. Until then whether you like it or not people like Alistair Campbell will need to exist.
@@alexboston343 I agree. It is down to society-wide changes in the perception. Campbell was instrumental in cornering the political debate around 'image', but, i agree he isn't singularly and only to blame. A large pert of the change can be seen in the shift in the way products are advertised - a shift from plain communication to image / lifestyle /fantasy communication. It is all a horrendous mistake that has left a large part of our population unable to think clearly.
