16 years ago for my 60th birthday my wife and I flew from the UK and did a 3 centre trip which included a stay at a harbour-side hotel at Marina del Rey. I wish Mike could come to NYC to document homelessness and people struggling. We are having a major crisis here right now with the sudden influx of people trying to get asylum. I’ve been a lifelong NYer and feel for these people, but it’s tough for me to feel for these people when they seem to be taking advantage of laws that don’t quite apply to the majority of everyone doing it. I am politically liberal too, so it pains me not to want everyone to get help, but I have to think about this situation considering my own personal perspective. My grandparents went through holocaust, lost everything and everyone in their lives, and still had to apply for visas and citizenship before coming into this country after WWII ended - and it took a long time and the help of an organization to make sure my grandfather had a guaranteed job before setting foot into this country, my grandparents and my mom who was a baby had to get physical exams, etc. They ended up in Portland, OR for two years before being able to move to NYC where a couple of relatives who survived the war had landed because Portland is where the organization was able to find my grandfather a job with his skills as a leather worker who made shoes, handbags, belts, etc. Portland is not the city it is today back in the early 50’s, but they graciously went there and worked hard to save enough to go to NYC and made sure to have a job lined up for my grandfather by the time the went (and accomplished this all without the internet, mind you). Asylum is for people who are under immediate threat. I know the conditions are harsh in Venezuela and so many other countries in South and Central America, but asylum cannot be used by an entire nation that has decided to migrate this way. It is not sustainable and it’s directly affecting people who have lived here in NYC for several generations and need help - like me, who is disabled, ill, and unable to work. I’m scared public and private resources will end up giving less help to people like me, and then I’ll land on a street with all my medical issues because I can’t make ends meet. It’s a real concern and happening to people already. Due to budget cuts to accommodate asylum seekers, people in every city agency have suddenly lost jobs. There are tons of issues in this city already, like maintaining building safety. All of these problems have now become even more massive. These people are taking advantage of a law that does not apply to the majority who are not in imminent danger - yes they have it rough, but I honestly don’t see how it’s any better coming to a city that cannot accommodate them all. How is it better living in a tent city, having no job, having to stand in line in the bitter climate they’re not used to, etc.?! I really think about of these people thought they’re coming to paradise and they reality hit - and now they have massive issues and those of us who live here already now have massive issues as a result. Border control really needed to handle this problem instead of just letting the border states bus these people up here as a political “lesson.” Anyway, Mike always shows everything from all perspectives. It’s very complicated. Would be cool if he could come here and try to help the world understand what’s going on in NYC.
There are 7000 a day coming over. The border states are full. There no more room. And it will get worse with 7000 a day coming over. NY will just have to take them in. AZ is so bad crime is out of control. Texas is full. Way would anyone vote for open borders when people are starving here. It will get bad really bad.
In the 1830s, Texas was a state in the Mexican Republic. The Republic was overthrown by a brutal military dictatorship. About half of Mexico's states revolted, including Texas, seeking a restoration of democracy. The military dictatorship's forces traveled north from Mexico City, committing atrocities against towns suspected of revolt. Little by little, Mexican liberals moved northward to safety, with Texas becoming the base of anti-dictatorship operations. The dictatorship's forces eventually reached Texas. They committed massacres in the towns of Goliad and Gonzales. Then the Alamo. Then a last stand at San Jacinto, which was a shock victory for the joint Anglo-Mexican democrats. Despite the win, they were small in cash and small in number. So instead of retaliating with an impossible invasion of Mexico City, they declared Texas an independent republic. The point is that Texans and Mexicans share a common history. We have a united heritage. We don't hate them. On the contrary, we've been friends and family for centuries. None of this history is known to politicians in New York who have accused border states of being "racist." And so now we have a situation where our border is controlled by cartels, instead of cooperative, lawful, orderly and peaceful administration between two great allies and trade partners. Crossing the border isn't free. Young girls are raped dozens of times as a fee. Young boys are put into impossibly high debt, which they have to pay off by working in the U.S. for years. The collections are made by the cartel under the penalty of death and torture. It's completely lawless. Sometimes kids just disappear. There are no police or cameras. Nobody knows and nobody cares, no matter how much Texans scream about it. I'm glad that the political lesson worked. We now have your attention. I'm very sorry about the several thousand illegal immigrants in New York. I feel your pain. Of course in Houston there are approximately 2 million, so our problems are different. Schools designed for 100 kids have 4000 kids. City hospitals are indescribably overcrowded. Cartel intimidation controls half the city. Our Mexican friends live with guns at their head. But we're "racist" or something. It's probably too late to fix the problem. We already have had millions of children raped and murdered. So, I don't know. You have already destroyed millions of lives, and we can't turn the clock back.
@@heidi7151 Lol. You can make up history. But history can be found. First Texas there where really small amount of people living there the US offered To buy it. Mexico said no .. Then Mexico said that white settlers could be there so they did. Then Mexico wonted them gone . They sent in there military and k all of them and some where prisoners of war and they did some really bad stuff. Anyway they also died. Then are gov sent in people we didn’t have many men . It was like 1 to 10 .. But that was won by the USA. So what you just said is not true at all. It’s was well documented. People just love changing history ..

Wow.. homeless problem is pretty bad here in my city as well. Love Arnold .. hopefully next time will be a better exchange with him! Great video as always GIV! Much ❤ and support from Texas 🐼
Your personality is a big ingredient in the success of your channel. Good job! On the homeless issue I am glad finally LA is getting tough on that situation.
Wow! That sidewalk was completely blocked with camp debris. In my large Canadian city, the moment a tent is erected on the sidewalk, it's gone in less than 24 hours. That tent-congested sidewalk situation could never happen here. We do have homeless camps, but those are getting demolished over time. The cost of living is super high everywhere now, but these camps are a major health hazard for not only the inhabitants but also the general public. It's just really sad!
It doesn't matter if you live in a tent a house a boat we all accumulate a large amount of waist and possessions, waist is the problem for all humanity. Great to see Arnold in good shape great photograph thanks from the UK.
Hello GIV this totally breaks my heart not sure who's to blame for all the homeless folks this is America home of the beautiful and just look at what has happened iam sorry for humanity and mother earth peace to all😢

@@nickarini6262 some do and some don’t I was homeless for a few yrs and it was because I have mental illness and I didn’t have the money to hold down a place nor the help and now that I do I’m in a better place place but it is true some do and some dint
Mike good update on the Homeless area. It's very sad, and seems like no easy solution to the matter. I'm glad you go to see Arnold again. Too bad it was not under better circumstances. It would be really cool if you could get his reaction watching the video about how you first came to California and that Arnold was a huge inspiration.
If groups of homeless people at least kept their areas somewhat clean, that would help. Then again, the unhoused are too busy with mental issues, drugs, shoplifting, etc, to have time for the nicer things in life. The city in the past day also just cleared out the campers along Forest Lawn Drive, which you showed in another vid a few months ago. It's a never-ending chore, sort of like cleaning the toilet or keeping weeds out of a garden.
I feel SORRY for those people that are homeless, some could even have MONEY or even have a part time jobs but can't afford to live in a house or apartment, the way the economy is and how cost of living has sky rocket, it's just sad and if there is help for the homeless they need to know. Thank you my friend for filming and posting this video, it's sad but this is going on all over California and so many places across America and the world.
Do you honestly think any one person you saw in that homeless trash can work a job? Or want to work a job? Or want to do anything? This homelessness has nothing to do with the cost of living in CA. It's about people wanting to do what they want with no responsibilities, getting high, no cares in the world until a bunch of police some and tell them to move. So they move across the street to get away from them and then move right back. But not one of them is capable of working a job. There is help for them, they refuse it.
So sad, they have so little and that too is taken away. Now this is definitely the grinch that stole Christmas. May the good Lord take care of our homeless. Man surely doesn’t have a heart, God takes care even the sparrows.
I am not going to ask the question " how did it get this bad" because ther isn't one concrete answer. It's disgusting, it's terrible, it's frustrating and maddening. No one wants to scrape the scab off of this problem because they are afraid of what they'll find. I gave some thought to this issue and all I can offer is compassion and prayers, because I am just one step away from living on the street. Ask your governor/politicians what they plan to do and you'll the get the same non answer they always give as they go back to their gated mansions they obtained from stealing from the same people living in filth. Thanks GIV for not sugar coating this.
Arnold looked really hateful, it took massive balls to approach him with that scowl on his face!! He looks like someone stole his candy! 😬😬😬 cheer up Arnie, it's what you signed up for!!
I live on the west side, but get a lot of information about my neighborhood from you! I see the unhoused population, but don't stop to ask questions about how the whole cleanup situation works, how they're treated, etc. Thanks for your bravery and compassion and for getting up at the crack of dawn for my education. 🌞
yup, its called homelessness. Because that's exactly what it is. I'm sick of renaming words to spare peoples feelings. it doesn't help anything. @@mysterymac38
Amazing the tennis racquets and weight lifting machine pieces and parts along with other odds and ends. How do they collect these things only to just pile them up like useless junk?
I once watched Denzel Washington come out of Sunday church services with his wife. Two people who somehow found out he was there, and were waiting for him, ran up to him, and without getting his consent began snapping selfies with him. Needless to say he wasn't happy. The look on Arnold's face in this video reminds me of the look on Denzel's face that day.
@@HollywoodConnection-jast That's the law, and enshrined in the First Amendment of the US Constitution. If they don't like it they should go live somewhere else.
Homelessness is not a housing or a money issue... it's an mental healthcare issue. If you give these people a place to live, and hand them some money, and offer them a job, they will squander it and lose it in two days.
You are taking what Arnold said out of context! I notice that most all of the brave people criticizing the efforts of the CDC during the time of Covid are those not likely to be affected! 😂
Arnold Give GIV A 10 minute interview He's a huge fan and is completely inspired by you. He won't demean you and will only be considerate and kind with his questions. Be a nice guy Arnold and grant a bucket list request
4:41 GIV should become that gym member in the end it will give a chance multiple time seeing arnold at gym and pumping iron at gym also makes you fit 🤔
In there working to improve health and no camera in his face would probably change the whole attitude...and do our host here a world of good. I hope GIV sees your suggestion and gives it a try.
Thx for the videos Mike. I have to say this though. Everyone blames California for all the Homelessness, however, it's not just an LA problem, it's the entire countries problem. Many, many of these people aren't from California originally, they are from all over the country, but come to California for the mild winters. If you watch a few episodes of Soft White Underbelly, you'll see that many homeless are from all over the country.
I live in Vancouver Canada, and we have the mildest winters in Canada, and we have the exact same problem, many of the homeless here have moved here from thousands of miles away.
It's not just the weather...they also give cash, food stamps, and free medical to people from other states... My community doesn't do this ( enabling)...guess what? We don't have a big " homeless" problem
@@lorrie5881 CA is stuck with the Humanitarian dilemma, once they are there, what do you do? let them starve, or feed them. The closure of inpatient Mental Health facilities all over Canada and the US contributes to this problem immensely

I volunteered in the homeless program and most of them are beyond reach ,City Counsel LA provided housing but further inland and they do not want to leave their ares in which they been living for years
You finally met him again. Mike! Congrats! I met Arnold in an elevator in Century City back in the 80's. He's flirty but a nice guy. I'm saddened by the fact that there are strong odors that close to a food market. How do the customers handle that smell when they park there?
Heartbreaking when you have migrants complaining about being put up in hotels. Same in the UK. They always used to say about judging a Country on how it treats its own citizens, this says it all. 😢
What's your point? The homeless (who the majority are Veterans who fought for this country & the right for you to be free & be able to voice your opinion) need mental help and HOMES. Even if they are just tiny homes.
My point is if we can put people with no ties to this Country up in hotels while our UK housing stock is used to home them, we can find homes for the many families and veterans who need help first. Trevor Coult MC suggested several years ago that the MOD could use disused former sites to help veterans and provide help for them. They made some excuse and said no. Yet now they can spend about five times more than they would have making migrants comfortable and treating them better than they do our own soldiers. I know exactly how the system works I have found myself without a home twice. I got conned into a fake marriage and he got a visa and council housing within two years of being in the UK thanks to using me. I ended up on my brothers sofa. A friend of mine who fought in the Falklands killed himself because this is not the Country he fought for.
"MIKE!!!! I thought you were going to ask me to say that stupid line of yours, SUBSCRIBE TO THE G.I.V.! Mike, don't you know, I only know how to say GET TO THE CHOPPER, but don't worry, I'LL BE BACK" (In an Arnold voice)! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 BTW, it did look like he had a smirk on his face! Mike, every time you mentioned the Green Machine, I kept thinking of the movie, The Longest Yard with Burt Reynolds! Excellent coverage Mike, please watch were you step! 🤢🤢🤢🤢
I feel bad for the people that lost All their stuff but I also agree with California. It was looking pretty bad on the streets. I wish there was something the homeless can do to help them get housing And some kind of assistance. It's very sad that the homeless population is very high in California.😢
Thank You Mike, Great Filming as always. It’s the sad truth in LA but that’s reality. Very good Clean Up crew’s & social workers. Nice to See Arnold, even on a “bad day”😅 Stay Safe Mike!🎄😎💚
The worst governor... Screwed the poor people on workers comp. A real protector for the corporations. I was injured in the prior year but felt the effects of Arnold's insurance cuts. FAS and FJB also.😮😮😮
I met Ahnuld years and years ago at The Rock Store. Good times. I even worked the phones on his Governor run. "An Austrian corporal, how can be go wrong?" I joked. Honestly, a good guy who never stopped growing as a person. In all fairness I probably met and interacted with a shitton of famous people when I lived around Los Angeles but I'm terrible at recognizing them lol.
There was report the other day that LA has spent $75 million on the homeless issue......and only 500 people have been housed. Somebody's getting rich off this deal.
@schwags1969 The overwhelming majority of the "homeless" have brought the problem onto themselves mostly because they love their drug using lifestyle. The responsibility is TOTALLY on them. Commiefornia indulges these deadbeats and encourages them to continue with taxpayer aid. For those that are truly mentally ill (NOT from drug abuse) and those just down on their luck I have total sympathy, but there are really not that many that deserve the charity, especially at the high expense to the California taxpayers just trying to survive themselves!
I visited Santa Monica in 96. Loved the place. Had a workout at Golds
I hope the area comes back to life in a clean and healthy way.

First Texas there where really small amount of people living there the US offered
To buy it.
Danke!
Thank you very much. I wish you a happy new year.
I saw you pass by on your scooter with phone in hand yesterday on the Santa Monica Close up TH-cam page when they were cleaning up Rose Ave in Venice, I was like there Is the German in Venice !!
Another fine video by the GIV from Venice Beach California. Thank you from those of us who are glad you mention street names, locations and building names. I got a couple of screen shots of you and arnold too! Gonna enlarge them! THX!!!
Wow.. homeless problem is pretty bad here in my city as well. Love Arnold .. hopefully next time will be a better exchange with him! Great video as always GIV! Much ❤ and support from Texas 🐼
Just roaming around Freemont St in Las Vegas and who do I see German in Vegas . Great to see you.
Your personality is a big ingredient in the success of your channel. Good job! On the homeless issue I am glad finally LA is getting tough on that situation.
Yeah. Poor people suck.
I saw you on Santa Monica Close Up talking on the phone with your mom! I am so glad she's feeling better!! 🙏✌
Thanks GIV love you!!
♥ so glad your mom is feeling better ♥
It doesn't matter if you live in a tent a house a boat we all accumulate a large amount of waist and possessions, waist is the problem for all humanity. Great to see Arnold in good shape great photograph thanks from the UK.
Hello GIV this totally breaks my heart not sure who's to blame for all the homeless folks this is America home of the beautiful and just look at what has happened iam sorry for humanity and mother earth peace to all😢
I missed these videos. These are the reason I subscribed to your channel. Keep these videos coming and you should get more subscribers. 😊
How the heck do homeless people accumulate SO much stuff!?! Crazy.
I was thinking the same thing!
Also why would you want to filth up the area where you are sleeping and eating?
They don't have a house to stash stuff in anymore.
Must be mental illness
And where does it all come from
They spend years scavenging through dumpsters and other places where stuff is thrown out. Did this really have to be explained to you?
love all your vids... with much respect, your friend from china!
What a shame that a beautiful place like Venice has to be destroyed like that. Thanks GIV for the update
GIV I'm so happy you meet Arnold
I'm so glad you post these vids. It shows me I made the right decision by NOT moving to California and won't ever. Thanx Mike...I do love your videos.
Will just wait. There 7000 a day coming over the border. You nice place to live wont be for long.
If the homeless didn’t have so much garbage, they wouldn’t be a nuisance. I love the pic of you and Arnold.
Wie trauriech. Good to see you GIV. Gott mit sie.
Soo Cool you got to see Arnold in person again. Its crazy the homeless in California, much love Mike.❤😊
Guten tag Ive been following this cleanup from Tucson AZ. Im a Cali kid and its nice to see this. I love your videos! Hoping to see your home country one of these days. Glad you got to meet Arnold! Also one of my heros. Frohe weihnacten und ein qutes nues jahr!
Glad you got to meet Arnold!!!
No wayyy you got to meet him 🎉❤. Man you show us anything is possible
That used to be a beautiful area never thought I'd ever see it looking like this.
I moved away from the Los Angeles County area about 25 years ago, I seldom get back to visit. It’s good to see your informative content. Keep up the good work you do.
I just saw you on yesterday's Santa Monica Close Up. Hello GIV from Michigan. Have a good day.
It’s so sad about how many people are homeless
People have a choice in life
@@nickarini6262 some do and some don’t I was homeless for a few yrs and it was because I have mental illness and I didn’t have the money to hold down a place nor the help and now that I do I’m in a better place place but it is true some do and some dint
Welcome back to CA! We never miss an episode.
FINALLY !!!!! This is the ultimate moment for me ! The GiV and Arnold !!!! Awesome 😊
Just like you

Great Video.. . Like always
Finally, you met him. GIV met Arnold, finally.
@cwaynebrock2519 Well said.
This is fantastic Mike! I really enjoy your TH-cam content. Keep up the great work my friend.
This video about the homelessness was hard to watch, but you are telling an important story! Keep up the excellent and varied content!
So sad, they have so little and that too is taken away. Now this is definitely the grinch that stole Christmas. May the good Lord take care of our homeless. Man surely doesn’t have a heart, God takes care even the sparrows.
I remember Arnold during Covid saying "Screw your freedom".
I love Arnold nice to see him n you
I am not going to ask the question " how did it get this bad" because ther isn't one concrete answer.
Very Sad Thank You for the information.
Arnold looked really hateful, it took massive balls to approach him with that scowl on his face!! He looks like someone stole his candy! 😬😬😬 cheer up Arnie, it's what you signed up for!!
Arnold is no good
He's a bad dude. I wonder how he got missed in the Me-Too campaign.
Arnold looked almost like a homeless person himself. LOL He should get a better hair treatment on his head and face so he looks sharper.
He signed up for complete strangers hassling him all the time? Really
The guy has been in the public eye for 55 years and this "Hey Lady" thinks he's not aware of that. Jealous much!
finaly GOD BLESS YOU MANN
I live on the west side, but get a lot of information about my neighborhood from you! I see the unhoused population, but don't stop to ask questions about how the whole cleanup situation works, how they're treated, etc. Thanks for your bravery and compassion and for getting up at the crack of dawn for my education. 🌞
"The unhoused population". Newsome new speak. lol
yup, its called homelessness.
Thanks for the update Vince I hope you're doing well.🇩🇪🏆💪
I once watched Denzel Washington come out of Sunday church services with his wife. Two people who somehow found out he was there, and were waiting for him, ran up to him, and without getting his consent began snapping selfies with him. Needless to say he wasn't happy. The look on Arnold's face in this video reminds me of the look on Denzel's face that day.
How rude of those 2 people!
they dont need consent if they are shooting from a public space, legally speaking
He wasn’t smiling.
They chose that live when they wanted too be famous.
@@HollywoodConnection-jast That's the law, and enshrined in the First Amendment of the
US Constitution. If they don't like it they should go live somewhere else.
Homelessness is not a housing or a money issue... it's an mental healthcare issue. If you give these people a place to live, and hand them some money, and offer them a job, they will squander it and lose it in two days.
The GIV’s finest, more please!
Thank you for this video you're one of the great ones❤😊
"Never meet the people you admire, you'll be disappointed." - Phew, Arnold was not having it. 🤨
"screw your freedoms" is my favorite quote of his

Thank you GiV 👍
Don't care much for Arnie after he came to my country, got elected governor of my home state. And then told me "screw your freedom"
Hey Mike it’s been along time since you made a video about the homeless people living on the streets
This is the personality of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Are you a Native American?
He's a RINO...the deterioration of California began with him ( IMO)....
You are taking what Arnold said out of context!
I notice that most all of the brave people criticizing the efforts of the CDC during the time of Covid are those not likely to be affected! 😂
Arnold
Give GIV A 10 minute interview

Would like to see a Timelapse after the cleanup how log it takes to re infest.

I love watching your videos, but some of them are just heartbreaking. You're the best GIV!
How do they acquire so much c__p?
Great video GIV I will be there today!!! Keep up the good work
Arnie was lucky to have met the famous GiV
Lol, yes! Arnie was lucky GiV was in a good mood that day! (jk, GiV always is!)
Thank you
Thx for the videos Mike.
Correct! And some states give them free bus tickets and are encouraged to go to CA.
@@Every_Day_islike_Sunday We get the exact same thing, many Provinces export their problems to my Province, in the 1990's the Premier of Alberta openly sent homeless to BC. Ralph Klein

There are housing programs. You can't do drugs to be in them, though...

Arnold's housekeeper also said he was flirty but a nice guy. 🤣

hey Good morning Giv and Arnold 💪🏻🎄🎄
Your videos are far more interesting than anything Arnold has done. The GIV is the star now.
Can you imagine sitting in traffic for 3 hours coming home from work to this?
There was report the other day that LA has spent $75 million on the homeless issue......and only 500 people have been housed. Somebody's getting rich off this deal.
Yup...Our tax dollars being wasted on these lazy ass scumbag drug users . @supralex1

Thank you for sharing very sad things that go on how is your mom doing hope she is doing well 🙏

Thank you Mike for being compassionate.
May your life never get upended and put you on the streets. You may regret your words. Don't judge unless you want karma knocking on your door.
@schwags1969
The overwhelming majority of the "homeless" have brought the problem onto themselves mostly because they love their drug using lifestyle.
This is what happens when you close the asylums in the 80s in order to give massive tax cuts to the elite. Has it trickledown yet?
