Johnny Yong Bosch really did a great job playing both Ichigo and Zangetsu. They wouldn't be the characters we love without some phenomenal voice acting.

He lived his entire life inside Misaki seeing her wish to save and protect the ones she cared about - that changed him but he still only understood power as the only thing that can protect. You'd think Zangetsu is evil because of the way he acts and the fact he's a Hollow, but he's actually a neutral, or even a "good" character, if you think about it.
It makes sense, Shinigami learn their zanpakutou's name. And just keep calling on them for support, but very few of them have actual friendships with their zanpakutou. Even Ichigo just ignored the White Zangetsu for the longest time.

It was nearly impossible given the events. Ichigo probably assumed he got hollow powers when he tried to reactivate his soul reaper powers in the beginning. Since the hollow wasn't there first and didn't come around till later. Really hard to believe.
When I first saw that episode on Adult Swim I had a feeling he wasn't lying about that, despite how Ichigo viewed him as a hollow if we think back on all their conversations, "Hichigo" always seemed disappointed in how Ichigo acted and scolded him like some condescending teacher. Also zanpactou don't seem to lie to their wielders since they're the ones who hold the power to aid in battle. Don't get me wrong I find this half of Zangetsu insane especially with how battle crazed and violent he was, but I have to give him props for pretending to be the very thing Ichigo hated even if it meant not being accepted. He pushed Ichigo in ways that helped and he was always upfront with him in every situation, not one to hold punches as he did care in his own way to protect Ichigo. If he actually was evil he could've taken over at any given moment but he didn't until he knew Ichigo was too weak to face against stronger opponents or if he was in a near death state where his instincts were only to survive which is probably why he attacked Uryu in Vasto Lorde form

You know what I find weird, zangetsu used the weapon in ways that brought out its true potential, like spinning it around by the strap to increase reach and make a protective circle,but not once did ichigo actually think of trying it out. He just insisted on using it as a simple sword

I love rewatching these after finishing the manga. He's been telling Ichigo he was Zangetsu the whole time and his dialogue backs this up from lines like "My power", "Just because you learn someone's name doesnt make you friends" and His speech about a King and his Horse (refering to Shinigami and Zanpaktou). Love this series and hope Kubo continues it
White was just the hidden gem of this series. He’s mysterious, protective, and even psychotic. He’s like an Anti-Hero. And that’s why we love him! Anti-Hero’s are some of the most interesting characters in media and White just personifies that concept to a T!

Anyone else notice how Ichigo copies Zangetsu (White)? He copied his Getsuga he used with Byakuya. When he used it differently during their iconic fight, by flashing with Ichigo then releasing Getsuga! Ichigo copied it in his second fight with Grimmjow by clashing with him then releasing it. He spins his sword around on Sogyoku hill like Zangetsu did and he grabbed Aizens face and yeeted him into the ground like Zangetsu did to him.
Zangetsu understands how Ichigo learns and antagonized him partly because it was the easiest way to get through to him and also because it was entertaining for Zangetsu. At least that's how I interpreted his actions.
The beauty of hollow Ichigo is that he has been protecting ichigo this whole time and the only reason he was taking over ichigo is because ichigo hated him and didn't accept him so it was that reason his powers didn't fluctuate properly. We get this beautiful reveal when ichigo accepts hollow ichigo and tense zangetsu. Hollow ichigo always loved and protected ichigo even when ichigo hated him. That's true friendship
The fact that ichigo had to ask when did he learn Bankai really let me know just how badly he misunderstood hollow ichigo and it really show how disconnected he was/is from himself. 2:40 Spoilers for the manga, so don't read on if you've not read it. . I love how even in this filler arc, there is foreshadowing regarding the true identity of Hollow Ichigo. Juha Bach (or Ywach, I honestly don't know what his name is lmao), Ichigo's Quincy side, is the one suppressing him but the viewer wouldn't have any idea that this is the case until you start the TYBW arc. The fact that it was teased throughout the entire series is amazing.

That zangetsu is hope and belief and preserverance to fight with all my might to the end and become successful in everything that I want.
There is something absolutely beautiful about the fact once you know the truth all of Zangetsu's actions makes sense not only as an act of self-preservation but because it was actively granting Ichigo's wishes. Trying to show him not only his true nature but the true depths of his own power. This is most prominent during Ichigo's battle with Byakuya where because of Ichigo's inexperience he was destroying his own body it took over to finish the fight and in the battle with Ulquiorra where it granted Ichigo's wish to answer Orihime's call to be saved.

You know what I find weird, zangetsu used the weapon in ways that brought out its true potential, like spinning it around by the strap to increase reach and make a protective circle,but not once did ichigo actually think of trying it out. He just insisted on using it as a simple sword

I love rewatching these after finishing the manga. He's been telling Ichigo he was Zangetsu the whole time and his dialogue backs this up from lines like "My power", "Just because you learn someone's name doesnt make you friends" and His speech about a King and his Horse (refering to Shinigami and Zanpaktou). Love this series and hope Kubo continues it
White was just the hidden gem of this series.
He’s mysterious, protective, and even psychotic. He’s like an Anti-Hero. And that’s why we love him! Anti-Hero’s are some of the most interesting characters in media and White just personifies that concept to a T!

Well hollow ichigo is more like a overprotective sadistic sibling that does not know how to show their love and care.
Anyone else notice how Ichigo copies Zangetsu (White)? He copied his Getsuga he used with Byakuya. When he used it differently during their iconic fight, by flashing with Ichigo then releasing Getsuga! Ichigo copied it in his second fight with Grimmjow by clashing with him then releasing it. He spins his sword around on Sogyoku hill like Zangetsu did and he grabbed Aizens face and yeeted him into the ground like Zangetsu did to him.

Zangetsu understands how Ichigo learns and antagonized him partly because it was the easiest way to get through to him and also because it was entertaining for Zangetsu. At least that's how I interpreted his actions.

The beauty of hollow Ichigo is that he has been protecting ichigo this whole time and the only reason he was taking over ichigo is because ichigo hated him and didn't accept him so it was that reason his powers didn't fluctuate properly. We get this beautiful reveal when ichigo accepts hollow ichigo and tense zangetsu. Hollow ichigo always loved and protected ichigo even when ichigo hated him. That's true friendship

I love how even in this filler arc, there is foreshadowing regarding the true identity of Hollow Ichigo. Juha Bach (or Ywach, I honestly don't know what his name is lmao), Ichigo's Quincy side, is the one suppressing him but the viewer wouldn't have any idea that this is the case until you start the TYBW arc. The fact that it was teased throughout the entire series is amazing.

When you find out that white was just trying to save ichigo
There is something absolutely beautiful about the fact once you know the truth all of Zangetsu's actions makes sense not only as an act of self-preservation but because it was actively granting Ichigo's wishes. Trying to show him not only his true nature but the true depths of his own power. This is most prominent during Ichigo's battle with Byakuya where because of Ichigo's inexperience he was destroying his own body it took over to finish the fight and in the battle with Ulquiorra where it granted Ichigo's wish to answer Orihime's call to be saved.
this ENTIRE TIME i thought white ichigo was trying to take over his body and become the new ichigo but now that i see it back again he was really trying to protect him. think about it everytime ichigo was close to death or being absolutely slammed he would appear and white would try so hard to stop ichigo bleach is so good at showing minute details and letting the audience understand the meaning behind everything and people call it boring or lame and don’t know anything about the anime makes me sad but now everyone is on the bleach bandwagon now after 10 years just a bunch of false fans because the same ones who was hating are now the same ones watchin the newest season
