You made me look up 8F35 planetary issues. April's Transmission Digest has an article on the 8F35, it seems that there was planet needle bearings not hard enough. It mentions Ford bulletin number 22-281. At least laughed, and you didn't cuss up a storm while doing this.
Hello, when I replaced my engine, I removed the inverter and changed the seal. Before reassembly I filled the inverter with 1/2liter. I would like to know how much quantity of oil, I need to fill the gear box. Also I removed the drain plug before remove the engine. Thanks in advance. Yann

Serviced my transmission at 31,000 miles. It dies at 41,000 miles. Can we add an oil cooler and ditch the stock bypass and cooler? Also is there a way to add a dipstick?
You could tell that transmission was never serviced. The fluid that came out was like tar. Do a simple drain and fill at least once a year folks. Your transmission will love you for it.
Hi Ben I have a work van (2020 transit connect) 8f35 trans. It's pretty loaded, I don't think I'm over the 1600 lb payload capacity. Transmission failed at 70k miles. Never had fluid changed. Getting a new Transmission installed now. What are some countermeasures I can take to prevent failure other than less weight? I was thinking of installing Transmission temp. gauge and fluid change every 25k miles. I greatly appreciate your video.
You're welcome! Those sound like great ideas to help protect the transmission. When servicing, I'd do 3 drain and fills and run the engine 20 mins before each drain
Aptly timed! I recently reached out on FB about towing with the Transit connect on this gearbox and this really gives me pause! Do you get the sense this trans was on its original fluid, and if so, that it could contribute to failure? Or are these transmissions just too lightly built?
I think that they are lighter duty transmissions. I don't believe fluid caused this. However, I think that ford's 150k service intervals are ridiculous and it should be 30k on these. Anyway, I wouldn't tow or haul more than specified. And keep heavy hauling sporadic
Hello Ben! Have a same gearbox on my 2019 Focus. Now got a problem with it.. First of all it does not go to PARK (error on dash "Transmission not in park"). Okay with that fault I can drive (yeap it starts up and shut down) when car is cold. After few km fun begins. Car starts jerking and making weird stuff and finaly when it got full warm then it stops running. What can be the problem? Do you have any ideas? I'll add all fault codes aswell. @@reivoreidla8373 hi. It is possible you have internal damage. Step 1 is looking at the fluid for debris, like you said. Hopefully it's just a seized solenoid!

@reivoreidla8373 I missed the code about the range switch. Whoops. Could be that too. But the solenoid codes make me think it could be something else too. Maybe low on fluid too. Gotta get it checked out. If a part is damaged inside it can also set similar codes and not be able to engage neutral. But a solenoid can do that too.
Hey man, i’ve watched a couple of your teardowns, and i myself am nervous about my 8f35 in my 2.0t escape. Not sure how much you know about this, but the guys with the mavericks have had some really bad luck with these trans. It seems to be not as common in the escapes. However on the maverick forum i’ve seen a couple guys swap engines and bigger turbos for the 2.3L. Same transmission. I’m looking to do the same, do you think tuning can handle the huge torque increase? They’ve gotten some 11.7s 1/4 miles, and north of 400/450 whp. Is this a disaster waiting to happen if I do the same? What about the ford 8f40? how does that hold up? I can’t find much info on it. I’d hate to have to worry about the trans.

But after driving for a while like 2-3 miles if I make a stop and start driving again it shifts smoothly. I bought this car from someone 1.5 years ago. Hi. What fault code is it setting? Is the fluid level ok? If its low, check the LH axle seal for a leak (bushing wear, scored axle). If its not leaking, just need to know what code it set.

@@iiistrapsmusic8835 Hi. Having the fluid changed wouldn't fix this. Shift solenoid B is a common failure. You can start with replacing solenoid B. If the concern is still present, I would take the valve body apart and check for a worn separator plate (check ball stuck in plate).
I have a 8F35 In my 19 Edge. I have this really annoying problem where it shutters when I let off the gas or rarely it’ll do it on its own while cruising typically when in 7th or 8th. I’ve had the Torque converter replaced, Fluid changed at 55K and some TSB in regards to TCM programming all to which only made the problem “Better”. Any insight or ideas?
@@funnydubby6401 already did at 45K didn’t do much for it besides make it “Stable” if I let off the gas before shifts or when it usually shudders. Car has 70K on it now and hasn’t gotten worse or better. Needles to say ima drive that mf until it falls apart.
@@funnydubby6401 they are lol I work at a ford dealer and see them in frequently and all we do is replace the Valve body and Torque Converter mind you all the same part numbers so we aren’t fixing anything only making the issue go away temporarily lol weird part is the 8F35 in the escapes w the 2.0 seem way smoother. I’d say the 8F35 plus 275FT Lbs plus 4200 pounds just don’t work in the edge lol.

Before I knew more about this transmission I bought the low pressure filter and the gasket for the valve assembly cover. The gasket Ford let me return, but I had the filter from rock auto for too long. Can you use it?
I have a fleet 2022 Edge AWD 51K miles. In the last snow storm up here in the NE the AWD was disabled a few times for some reason. No codes. Now I see fluid coming out of the transmission vent on top of the transmission under the air box. Related you think??.
Just watch your video on the Edge, with same gearbox, so there are 2 internal filters, but I think this are considered to be for life, so not replaceable by the Manufacturer . Only if you put down the GB completely..
i suspect the driver beats the daylights out of this, as most 'professional' drivers do where I live. Couple that with the fact that the automakers are in a mad rush to add gear ratios to their vehicles to keep up with each other, and that they use the least expensive aluminum parts they can, and you have these kinds of disasters. There are almost always a lot of issues when these higher gear count transmissions get released. It's also easy to break a piece of the case casting when removing that main snap ring on the 6F35, thinking it's the one that holds the 1-2-3-4 in; not sure it's the same on the 8 speed, but something to be aware of.
Hello Ben , I bought a used Tourneo Connect 1.5 ecoblue (12/2019, 132.000km ) with this gearbox. Firstly , it had transmission slipping, harsh engagements and according to FDRS various DTCs (P0756, P0771, P0868, P2700, P2701, P2704) . Additionaly , 8/10 times you could not button up the R. After that ,I replaced the valve body with new one . After 1000 km the car is drivable but is has really harsh shifts when you are trying to stop the car (low speed) btw 3rd to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st gear. Also , when you choose D , it buttons up the 1st harsh and after everything it seems that work normally. For speed higher than 40km /h everything works normally. For those 1k kms , i had failure indication twice. The FDRS now memorized P0731 (gear ratio of 1st gear ) . Unfortunately , here in Greece the experience of engineers is extremely limited in this type of gearbox . I'd really appreciate it if you could advise me something or express your opinion about this. I'd put 5 quarts (or liters) in, let the engine warm up, then pull the leveling plug to set the fluid level, should be close

Does 6F35 have that filter? Always heard that its problems originated with clutch wear crudding up the valves and solenoids.
The 6f35 only has a filter on the pump, not a high pressure filter.

try adding a tube of lubegard shudderfix. I think the 8speeds converter clutch applies at low speed.

Get some shudder guard fluid, have seen a lot of customers with many 8 speed clunky/slippy feeling engagements.

Ford yetkili servisleri şanzımana yanlış yağ koyuyor kardeşim, bilgin olsun. ULV fluid koyulacak. Normal ATF koyup geçiyorlar.
If you change the fluid regularly, will loading the truck heavy still be a big problem?

Hi, all I can say is you'll have to go to a ford dealer to buy the parts. I ended up getting an entire transmission for this one.

Hi, gear 1 incorrect ratio indicates a forward clutch issue (A-Clutch) it'll need to be taken apart to determine the extend of damage
