  • I needed to edit the original video I made during a Blanket Weed removal last summer after finding it didn't have any conclusions for the viewers as they had been tagged to another video!?🤔
    So had to find the conclusion and attached it to this video to make it a more complete version of how I managed the BLANKET WEED at the time...👌
    Please SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and SHARE the video... ENJOY...👍👍😉😉

    Barley straw extract weekly this summer and nishikoi clearwaters going in every 2 weeks as recommended. Always keeps the blanket weed at bay. Pond in full sun all day so really recommend clearwaters

      Hiya. The thing with blanket weed removal is you gotta be patient as it does take time to clear. Don't be tempted to put more clover leaf in if you think it's not worked. Barley straw is still the best putting it in a bucket for 2 months in water to mature then putting the water out of the bucket in the pond as the covers go on then putting the straw out of the bucket in your filter your water will get a yellow cast then when the covers come off take it out of the filter and put some clay in the pond which will take the colour off but leave the liquid of the straw still in the water works for me each year.

    Well pond temp a bit better today 6c however we now have high winds from the north west and heavy rain I’m watching the panels on the pond trying to lift the middle one bowing.
    Everyone seems to be putting skimmers in suddenly it seems a lot of work and expense to me and the point being water has to have a 1% drop for water to flow without a pump.
    So it seems simple you fit the pump below the skimmer with a pipe from the skimmer to the pump then a pipe from pump to filter using a Heavy Duty 40mm Reinforced Ribbed Pipe.
    I remember last year someone on TH-cam lost a fish it went into the skimmer head first and could not get back out.

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I considered a skimmer when planning my pond but I dont have any trees or stuff near by to need to remove from the pond? I did look at a floating skimmer just to take away any fines from the surface, but I wont be cutting up the side of my pond to put one in. ...😉

    Starting to buy in all the things I need to make my pond higher going to 3 feet deeper.
    I have a liner in at the moment so have ordered a new liner would of put a bottom drain in but that would take weeks when I dug the pond out the first time I found it was solid sandstone which after bashing a 5 foot steel rod down got all the way down and it was still solid sand stone.
    So will leave the old liner in shape the bottom with sand and put a new liner in with a bottom drain running down the inside.
    I want to put an overflow in a drip in water pipe and new filter empty pipe however would like them all in one pipe which is 10 MT in length to the tap and drain.
    I thought if I had a 2” pipe going from the grid under the soil to the filter with a tee piece off this into a flange at the top of the pond so any overflow on the pond would go down this and when flushing the filter the water could go down this as well an ½” hose could also go down the inside of the pipe through the flange into the pond for a steady drip in of water this could also be used for topping up the pond when I do a 20% water change.
    The pipe should take a few hours to do and say a day for the liner and new finishing stone on the top I have purchased a small pool to keep the fish in for the day which I will fill with the water out of the pond and then put this water back into the pond so I should only loose around half of the pond water in doing this.
    All I need now is the sun and a warm day to get started and see if it all works.

    Due to the massive amount of bad weather we get in the north winter is around 1 month longer than other parts of the UK.
    Summer is something we dream of because all we seem to get is rain.
    Anyway I would like to know has anyone ever built a pond inside of a shed.
    Because I have a 10x6 shed that I would like to put a pond inside of it will have to have a liner in but can you put a bottom drain in and through 5” of wood or would it in time leak pond will be 5Lx4Dx3W.
    This year my pond temp dropped to minus -16 and I lost some fish although I have 2 150w heaters in the water.

    Hi after watching your pond side cleaning video with the black pieces being found in your filters and pond after using cloverleaf and you removed with a hoover,
    i have had the same problem with the black pieces but on close examination they seemed to have come from my pond fibreglass topcoat , have you found the same ?

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya, I found that after the black stuff was removed there was a coating of rough lime coloured stuff that I also removed. Since then the walls have now started to grow the natural green algae which is more beneficial to the pond. Its has taken weeks for it to stop being found in the filters.

    Well my last daughter is moving out into her own home though it’s costing me around £3500 for all the white goods and carpets.
    I can now move all my computer stuff into her room and use the shed for more Koi so on with the idea of building a pond inside the shed which is 10x8 so a small 5ft by 3ft and 3 feet deep would be nice possible for fry with heating inside the shed keeping the water at 25c a bottom drain of 25mm could take the water to the main pond so in winter the main pond would be warm then water from the main pond filter system could be diverted into the shed pond.
    Calculation of water is easy around 350 gallons however what is the weight of water frame and bottom and sides and will the floor need reinforcing can’t find anything online.

    Looks like being my time in life getting some new Koi and improving the big pond and look at the shed pond.
    I’ve been waiting a long time 4 of my children have left home over the past few years and the 5th leaving now to a new home so I will have money to do what I want for myself.
    No more education fees to pay or help towards their homes I have paid for the last one buying my daughters carpets cooker fridge freezer washing machine and 3 and 2 seater settees.

    With 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild every year is a nonstop of birthdays and an expensive Christmas.
    Now my time 10 new Koi 15” when I have finished the pond and 100 fry.
    Buying fry is the best way to get quality fish if you can keep them alive buying big fish from a dealer you will likely get male fish they keep the female fish or sell them at a premium.
    Just need the good weather now and warmer waters.
