Really great. By the way best value from apcpure seems to be 5L at 9%, £18.24 for 5L, so 1/3 L per 1000 gallons would give the same dose. As long as you pour slowly into a pond given the high concentration. Care not to expose the fish to a high local concentration needed. Do you agree Darren? Seems right to me. Price for 9% is equivalent to £6.08 for 3% so much better value, just more concentrated.
I used to use HP as a blanket weed treatment but it only tackled it short term in my pond so I started using Aqua source resolve which IMO is a much better way of dealing with blanket weed as again it doesn't cloud the pond but it removes the phosphates which blanket weed needs to survive so slowly but surely it dies back and is then gone for a season or 2 👍
Hi mate, the problem I have is that I trickle in up to 100% fresh water a week and my source water contains phosphate so removing it only lasts for a day or two and then my trickle in has topped it back up. Of all the koi specific blanket weed treatments though, cloverleaf blanket answer and aqua source resolve do seem to be about the best 👍👍
Some very useful information. Here in Canada our access to any product to control/kill blanket weed, or string algae as we call it, is very limited. The one used most often is barley straw although there are two others available, not including . I haven't had to deal with blanket weed in my pond for many years but I will definitely keep hydrogen peroxide in mind should the need arise.
Great vid! The two things that got my horrendous spring algae under control are hydrogen peroxide and heavy bacteria (sludge remover) dosing every Feb and March.
Love watching your videos if I ever have a problem I always watch one of your videos you are so full of knowledge our kid thanks for all your tips and knowledge keep it going look forward to your next video thanks
It's good to see you're still doing videos. I was just reading about the 3% hydrogen peroxide and saw this. "H2O2 works be releasing an oxygen atom which safely destroys bacteria, virus, and fungus." How would it work with virkon? Good thing? Bad thing? Or overkill? Or something?
Hello mate, Virkon is a steriliser which people have found is safe to add to ponds but it isn't made for that purpose and in all honesty I've never seen any scientific evidence to suggest it has a benefit in a pond. As such I honestly have no idea if or how the two things would react together. My feeling is that it would not be a problem but I wouldn't recommend trying it. Do you use virkon?, if so, what benefit do you see from it if you dont mind me asking?
Hi Rob, no negative effects at all. The oxygen boost is very welcome and the oxidation of organic material takes load off the bacteria and allows them to do the job of converting ammonia more efficiently. All positive 👍👍
Hi Andy, it definitely doesn't cloud the water, it clears it if anything. I don't have experience of different KH readings but it does work well in my pond with a KH of 2/3.
I was only looking at the start of blanket weed in my pond today. I normally use Clear Waters Blanket Weed solution but want to try what you have suggested. Is the Hydrogen Peroxide 3% ok to use with a sturgeon in the pond.
Hi dazzle I’m looking at using hydrogen peroxide for blanket weed. I’ve a 2000 gallon pond and have a litre of hydrogen peroxide 6% so I’m thinking of using use the 1 litre. I’m not holding you to it. But is my calculation correct. Regards Steve
Hi Daz. I’ve just tried what you have recommended. But nothing has really happened? I’ve tried two doses of this now. I know algae was over all the walls of my pond. I’m physically removing as much as I can by hand and by brush. But it’s still growing strong. How often can I dose the pond up? Many thanks.
Hi Stephen, you can does as often as you like really, its perfectly safe. I'm surprised you haven't seen results yet though. It doesn't kill everything dead as its not a nasty harsh chemical but it should stop it growing and modify your ecosystem to one which isn't conducive to weed growth. How long is it since you put the first dose in?
@@DazzleKoi Hi. Daz thanks, I dosed it before going away for the week. When I returned there was so much algae I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Not knowing I did another 1/2 dose. So I will continue now with a full dose weekly until I see results. Thanks for your reply.
Hi Daz, Do you know if it is safe to use hydrogen peroxide with sodium thiosulphate please? I just web searched it and the first thing that came back was "Hydrogen peroxide oxidises sodium thiosulfate to sulfuric acid" which worried me a bit.
Hi mate, sodium thiosulphate will actually neutralise the hydrogen peroxide so you should avoid adding both at the exact same time but it shouldn't be a problem at the levels and concentrations we are talking about. Both products, when added to a pond, remain active for a relatively short length of time anyway so if you add them both a day apart you will avoid one negating the other. I've used both for years but never on the same day and I've never had an issue.
Hi there Daz as always great subject I have Hydrogen Peroxide @ 6% do i half the 1000mls per 1000 gallon hope things are going well for you at the moment and hope to see you this season at an event or two very best regards Tony
Hi Tony, yes, as Dan says below, you just use half as much. Basically to make 1000ml of 3% solution you need 500ml of water and 500ml of 6% solution so as its going in a bigger volume of water anyway you can just add the 500ml of 6% to the pond 👍👍
Morning Daz, thank you for a very interesting video. I fitted an electronic anti blanket weed unit last year which certainly helped but didn’t completely cure. Is there a downside to using electronic units?I’ve not heard anyone mention them on Utube.
Hi Mark, I guess in the current climate there may be a cost implication but I honestly have no idea how much energy they use. I'll be honest though, I've never really understood how they can work and I haven't spoken to anyone that has had genuine lasting success with them. Other than cost though I can't think of any downsides to them.
Hi George, if it is food grade it will say on the container but as far as I've seen, over the counter hydrogen peroxide for various home uses has always been food grade.
just need to stop buying algae wafer. Even though you have algae eaters.... you don't need algae wafer or buy fish food that contain algae in it... Those Algae eaters can eat normal fish food.

You're my go to guy for any information I need for water keeping. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. 👍

Cheers Dan, I appreciate that, all good here mate, hows things with you?
Tried the Hydrogen Peroxide and within a couple of days my string algae had vanished; so pleased.
Hi Richard, that's great to hear. Thanks for letting me know 🍺🍻🍺

Great information, are you able to put a link in to buy the product so we get the right stuff. Thanks
Hi Martin, sorry for the delay in replying, if you haven't got it already, this is the one I use www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133589619901
brilliant video mate will try if it returns
Thanks Pal, hopefully you dont need it though 🍻🍻

I think clover leafs is a white powder which fogs the water, no idea what the compounds are though

Hi mate, yes no problem at all. Sturgeon struggle to take on oxygen so they would benefit from the o2 boost. All good 👍
@@DazzleKoi Thank you for the reply.

quick question, H2O2 will not also kill beneficial bacteria? it is advised to shut off pump during treatment? thank you
Hi there, no its absolutely fine. You wont see any ill effects at all.
