Hi, great video. Tips please to connect my Prime 4+ controller to my Mac for radio broadcast using BUTT software. I have been using a (cheap) USB audio capture card grabber, going from RCA unbalanced output of the Prime 4+ … however the quality isn’t great. Is it best to go from the Booth or Zone XLR output into an audio converter first (eg Focusrite Scarlett), and then connect via USB to the Mac? Thanks in advance
@ Ok thanks. I noticed in your other video on Focusrite you connected to it from a DJ controller using 1/4 inch inputs, which presumably were XLR on the controller output? Any reason why you didn’t use XLR output on the controller to XLR inputs on the Focusrite? Any significant difference between the two options? Thanks.
All Serato DVS interfaces are officially discontinued. The Rane boxes (SL2/SL3/SL4) are no longer being supported in new versions of Serato and while the Denon DS1 is still supported, it's been discontinued. Serato still absolutely support DVS interfaces (in various mixers and the Denon DS1, which you mention). It's just the Rane SL boxes and some older Rane mixers that are not supported for DVS, beyond Serato Pro V2.5.5. I agree that this is incredibly disappointing - pretty sure this must purely be a Rane decision not to test that equipment with the latest Serato DJ Pro software, or Rane refusing to update the driver for them so that the equipment will work? Can't see what other reason, considering *all* the unsupported equipment is Rane only and the age of some other manufacturers equipment that is discontinued but still supported under latest Serato Pro versions... As you say, is *incredibly* disappointing. The alternatives to step up to replace an SL box or old Rane mixer, are not cheap. I suspect this approach by Rane might well backfire by putting off previous Rane buyers from replacing their old Rane kit with new Rane kit (for example, I wouldn't now be looking to replace my SL3 with a new Rane mixer that is supported, I'd go for a Reloop RMX90 instead)

Hey Phil! Great video! I subscribed right away! I found you today while searching for answers to a question I've had for a long time and no luck. I have a Numark Mixdeck Express controller connected to a laptop and an Allen and Heath ZED10fx, using Virtual DJ. Playing music with the controller pulling music from the laptop sounds significantly weaker than playing the same files played via a usb drive on the controller. The second option means though that I can't use the Virtual Dj. Why is this and more importantly how can I fix this to I get better sound?
What do you mean by "weaker"? Just quieter, or worse quality? If you do a side-by-side test and turn VDJ up to the same volume as the USB files, does it then sound as good? I may be wrong, but I think I heard that Virtual DJ has a limiter (designed to prevent distortion) that cannot be turned off, and this may be the cause of your issue. You may want to try Traktor, not to switch platforms, but as a test. In Traktor, you can bypass all audio processing. If you can achieve significantly better sound with Traktor, you rule out your set-up ands then the focus goes firmly on Virtual DJ.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for this quick response! Weaker meaning both lower and worse quality with a side by side comparison using the same mp3 file. Coincidentally I found out about that limiter finally yesterday. An answer I found in the Virtual Dj forum was to adjust of the zerodb to -6db. It sounded noticeably better but it seems my computer isn't processing it well as the mp3's seemed to lag/drag in and out while playing. Maybe it's a processing power issue as it's an old pc laptop. I'll try Traktor. My main reason for using Virtual Dj is the playlist auto mixing as I am usually Dj, bartender and server all at once at a tiny bar I have only now fully taken over. So maybe I just need a really good mp3 player with good list management and use Traktor when Djing. This situation made me only think of that now. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tips. I bought a presonus 24C but it doesn't work for djing because it doesn't have separate monitoring! Can you think of an option to avoid doing it other than an added device on the mac because that option doesn't work well either.

Did I hear you correct at 10:30? That you can use a studio interface like the Roland Rubix 44 for DVS? They don't have turntable pre-amps, so how would that work?
@@digitaldjtips So I guess TT's without built in pre's, you would have to use an external pre-amp. I honestly thought you could only use a DVS specific interface like the SL boxes. That's good to know considering they're being discontinued. Thx for that info Phil!
Hello , please help me . I can’t hear the cue in my mix . I have a audio interface connect to two studio monitors that go straight into the laptop and a ddj 400 that is connect directly to the laptop. As much as i know, there are 2 reasons to use the external soundcard. 1. You get to use the analogue eqs, and all org. functions of the mixer, which in most cases are better than the internal ones of the dj software. 2. You need less processing power in the laptop. So it can be used for and other sources say the sound is more open. But I can't confirm that yet.

I have a question guys. Im using Traktor controller with Numark headphones (trying to at least lol) along with an M1 Mac. Once I try to use the headphone cue buttons on my controller, no sound enters my headphones once the selected output are my edifier speakers connected with bluetooth. The buttons don't work at all with different outputs as well. I've looked at settings in Traktor Pro everything seems to be in place. Could an audio interface change this?
No, you do not need an audio interface, because there is already one built in to your controller. However, you should never attempt to DJ with Bluetooth speakers, as no DJ controllers are designed to work with them. your speakers should be directly wired to your DJ controller.
I used to use a behringer uca202 on my desktop to livestream, now I plug straight from my profx12v2 mixer. What do you recommend for mobile livestreaming from my android phone or tablet? I have been looking at the irig2.
Hi Phill, thanks for the great info as always. I use a Xone k2 controller with Traktor when traveling but I need an audio interface to improve the sound because I'm just not happy with the sound quality when I connect it to the club mixer. Would really appreciate it if you could recommend which audio interface is best suited for this situation. Cheers
@@Benotee Not true! Audio interfaces are meant for both recording and quality outputs but not all are created equal. I actually toured for years using a Kontrol X1 controller and the Native Instruments Audio 2. Sadly NI stopped making interfaces... Now I've moved on to Rekordbox but Traktor now supports any sound card. Few soundcards are really made for DJs anymore (with multiple RCA outputs), but if you're just using the K2 to DJ with as a transport/looping controller and just want an interface for quality sound, I can suggest checking out the Steinberg UR24C. Lesser known but it's one of the only interfaces that has dual RCA outputs to use external mixing mode in Traktor, or you can also still use internal mixing mode if you have your K2 mapped to volume faders etc.
I used to run my x1mk1 through an external mixer and an old terratec external soundcard but i need a new interface as my old its not compatible anymore with windows 11. Problem is the NI audio 2 is not available anymore. Should i go for a Focusrite Scarlett entry level? Will that cover me? Thanx
I cannot get the audio from rekordbox/ddj800 into obs using a Scarlett 212. The only way is if I select laptop speakers to be the audio source. I have the rcas out the back of the controller into the face of the 212, the 1/4” out the back of the 212 into my monitor speakers. Both the 212 and the controller are connected to my laptop via USB. If I select the audio device to be the laptop speakers(within RKbox), I then cannot use the headphones output to cue up tracks.(the precue audio only becomes available on the master out and is heard through the monitors)
I was looking to get an audio interface for potentially enhancing the rca outputs from ddj 400s to studio monitors but can't figure out if it's worth it.

Been djing for 20 plus years. I live abroad and dont have my tech 12s and vinyl here. Had a friend give me a free controller with a free copy of rekordbox. Been using it for years but started playing out more and more. Seems like all the venues here use pioneer mixers. At first I was going to buy the new reloop flux interface that reminded me of my SL-1 box back in 2009. I don't wnt to buy a new mixer that comes with serato pro dj built in. The reloop box I could plugin on any mixer. However, I would need to buy a mixer just to run serato again even if I dont have turntables. So, if I buy like a djm450 pioneer. That can be plugged in dvs for the turrntables whether at the venue or if I ever buy some here in the future. So, i'm confused on what I should do.
@digitaldjtips haha not exactly, i'm just indecisive on picking a team? (Kind of). I'm a die hard turntablist. But since I already own rekordbox I am just learning about their dvs plus most venues here have pioneer house mixers. So, it's kind of pointless to buy an interface if I already own rekordbox and most places have pioneer mixers lol
I’m having a problem. My controller sound has a bit of a lag coming out from the speaker from what the laptop says. So the mixing is a bit off even if I catch the beat perfectly. Would a audio interface get rid of that lag?
No. Two things may be causing this: 1. You have the latency/buffer slider set to too high a number in the software. Try finding that control and reducing it. How far you can reduce it depends on how powerful your computer is 2. You are using a speaker that is Bluetooth, even though you are connected to the speaker with a cable. Many modern such speakers still have that delay even when you wire your gear in! Solution is to find a speaker or speakers with no latency when wired

I am interested in shooting some freestyles. I am trying to record the audio directly from the djs equipment but would like the tracks separate so I can mix it down. I wouldn’t want it as a mp3. Any suggestions?
With modern digital mixers, it's often possible to record all the channels separately if you're using it via USB into a computer.
An old video I just found, and probably won’t get an answer but here goes… I’m playing around with Mixmeister Fusion, would an audio interface such as a Focusrite Scarlett be able to route main output to speakers and monitor output to headphones? Probably not, that is ancient software

Not if you're DJing using DJ software and a laptop, but standalone, you may do - not tested this.

I have an entry-level DJ controller. Can I send the audio through the USB cable to my PC's external DAC while DJing live? It would be nice to bypass the RCAs altogether and only use the data cable while DJing...possible?
In theory yes, how you would do it depends upon your DJ software and you'd still want to use the internal soundcard for headphones monitoring.

Try the internal mic channel first, may well be fine.
I have a ddj200. Using a pc laptop (me)and mac (my girl) and the question is. Is it better to use and external audio card for improving sound quality of the output sound of the laptop/mac?

Did I hear you correct at 10:30? That you can use a studio interface like the Roland Rubix 44 for DVS? They don't have turntable pre-amps, so how would that work?
DVS doesn't just mean turntables, plus there are turntables with built in pre-amps
@@digitaldjtips So I guess TT's without built in pre's, you would have to use an external pre-amp. I honestly thought you could only use a DVS specific interface like the SL boxes. That's good to know considering they're being discontinued.

I can’t hear the cue in my mix . I have a audio interface connect to two studio monitors that go straight into the laptop and a ddj 400 that is connect directly to the laptop. Do I have to do a different connection to be able to hear the cue in rekordbox dj ?
I hear the sound coming from the audio interface and I can mix with the controller is just that if I use the build in aux port from the controller I hear no sound in headphones, but if I use the built in aux from the audio interface I hear the master sound constantly and can’t choose which track to listen to.
Plug your controller into your laptop, and your speakers and headphones into your controller. That's how it works, don't try more complex set-ups unless you know what you are doing.
Actually I have a mix track 2 and I need to use an audio interface the mix track pro 2 has the sound card so there's another one that doesn't have a sound card in it
You don't need a controller that doesn't have a sound card in it to use an external sound card. What exactly are you trying to do?

Hi Phill ,
Recently I see most of the Dj's are using Xone 96 mixer with Two controllers K2 and X1 MKII and using Traktor Audio 6 , since the xone 96 has Interface , what's the point of getting one ? Does it improve the quality ?
No idea regarding why DJs are using that particular set-up, not a set-up we see too often among our community, sorry.

Here's a random question about adding a mic to the DJ2GO2.
It appears I can add a USB mic to my computer to get a mic! Can I add an analog mic to the mic/speaker jack and add a mic? Essentially, I'd be using 2 audio interfaces - the one in the DJ2GO2 and the second from the computer with sound coming out of the DJ2GO2.
Yes, you can do that - we've done that for livestreams before.
I have a pioneer ddj sx with dm40bt speakers and a macbook pro, could anyone recommend the need or benefits to add an audio interface please? Thanks in advance.
No, no reason necessarily to add one.
So I have a Serato mixer that has only one Mic input, I would like to daisychain something like the M-Audio 2x2M Audio interface so I have better control of 1 or 2 mics. Is that even possible? Where does the final sound output come out??
I would add a small mixer in order to get extra mics in, wire your Serato mixer/controller and your mics into the small mixer.

@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the answer. I should be able to wire them directly so I’ll give it a shot once I get home from work

Did you figure out the best way to get the best sound quality?
@@cosmic.generator Not really, audio interferences are generally made for recording instruments so I'm not sure if they'll work for me
@@Benotee Not true!

The DJM450 wold work with the Reloop Flux and Serato, is that what you're asking?
@digitaldjtips haha not exactly, i'm just indecisive on picking a team? (Kind of). I'm a die hard turntablist. But since I already own rekordbox I am just learning about their dvs plus most venues here have pioneer house mixers. So, it's kind of pointless to buy an interface if I already own rekordbox and most places have pioneer mixers lol
@@digitaldjtips went with the ds1 in the end. Thanks
I’m having a problem. My controller sound has a bit of a lag coming out from the speaker from what the laptop says. So the mixing is a bit off even if I catch the beat perfectly. Would a audio interface get rid of that lag?
No. Two things may be causing this:
1. You have the latency/buffer slider set to too high a number in the software. Try finding that control and reducing it. How far you can reduce it depends on how powerful your computer is
2. You are using a speaker that is Bluetooth, even though you are connected to the speaker with a cable. Many modern such speakers still have that delay even when you wire your gear in! Solution is to find a speaker or speakers with no latency when wired
