  • How I make my wig caps for my alpaca hair wigs. This method is no-sew, which generally means I wouldn’t recommend putting this wig cap through your sewing machine when your finished ^_^
    I tried to be as in-depth as possible, but please let me know if you have any more questions! Thanks!
    PS sorry if the sound is really loud?? My video editing software is being strange or maybe it's my computer? Technology x3

    Using fabric that matches the dolls skin tone is a great idea. I have seen a bunch of wig making videos. I like your method the best so far.

    I tried this method but I used a cloth material and it turned out pretty stiff, but after seeing your video, I’ll try a stretchier material for my wig cap, thank you ☺️

    Yay! I just use PVA school of or whatever...we get ModPodge in the UK but normally it's just PVA.
    Thanks for this it's really nice that you took the time to put this up! I really need to get my act together and make some as I will be needing them shortly. This is brilliant!

    Three-ish questions.
    1.)Did you remove the fabric from inside the wig cap? And if you did, do you every find that if you leave the wig on too long the glue melts on the doll? Because I want to make dolls wigs and I was thinking of doing a glue wig but I was afraid of it melting in their hair or on their head, ruining the doll and the wig.
    2.)What do you think is the best method of glueing on the hair? Is their a specific way or pattern to follow so the glue doesn’t show and it is moveable and nice?
    3.)Can you style the wigs hair? I was just wondering once again because it’s made of glue and when it comes to more doll hair you can’t just use certain everyday tools to style it.
    Sorry, I know that was long, but I’m curious incase I make doll wigs like I would like to do.😊

    Instead of modpodge can I use liquid elmers glue?

      Depressed Boi ima be not gay with you, i was creative one day and took an old fashioned Barbie doll, after balding it of course, and just used liquid (Elmer's) glue and just straight up put a few layer of that on her.It was pretty flexibl, which isn't horrible.I made the mistake of sewing the hair into it and it failed me, so if you're broke like me😂 Elmer's should work fine if you're not sewing, it just may not be that dependable, good practice maybe

    This helped me very much today. I am working on a Foxy custom doll, the female version, and I needed to make a wig for the doll's head, which is where this video came in handy. I don't have modpodge though, so I used Staples clear glue. It hasn't dried yet, but I'm confident that this will work...I hope.

    • @PinotNoirIceCreamBar
      @PinotNoirIceCreamBar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Olive Art is absolutely right! You can certainly attach hair directly to the doll's head, you just have to be careful not to damage it (excessive heat, fibers that stain, etc). Also consider how often you might want to open the headcap/faceplate and plan out the hairstyle accordingly so you don't lose functionality. Sorry for the late response, and I hope that helps! :)

    Do you think you could use this sort of wig cap if you were sewing wefts of synthetic hair on, instead of gluing on alpaca hair?

    • @PinotNoirIceCreamBar
      @PinotNoirIceCreamBar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm...I suppose you could try, but I have a suspicion that sewing on the glue would warp the cap until it no longer fit on the doll. Sewing a wig cap would probably work a lot better, and that's a pretty easy process too. Even buying elastic pre-made wig caps wouldn't be too bad - I don't think they're too pricey. That being said, I've never tried sewing on a glue-based wig cap, so I can't say for sure :)

    But how do you get the wig to stay on? PLEASE ANSWER! I made a wig for my Barbie and the wig cap seemed to fit fine but once I finished, the wig won’t stay on at all!

    • @PinotNoirIceCreamBar
      @PinotNoirIceCreamBar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Does your doll still have rooted hair? It's pretty hard to get a wig cap of any kind to stay on over rooted hair, but you could try an elastic wig cap for better grip.
      If your doll is 'bald' without the wig you made, there are a few things you can do. If it's just a matter of the wig being too heavy a little dab of instant tacky between the wig cap and bald head should help keep it on. If the wig cap is warped and the wig is already complete, however, there unfortunately isn't much you can do, especially if the wig is too small.
      If you made the whole wig while the wig cap was on your doll it should retain a decent fit, but sometimes the wig needs to 'set' for a bit while still resting on the head. Next time after the wig is dry, leave it on your doll for a few hours more with a rubber band or hair tie holding it in place. If the wig has any further drying to do, this will hopefully prevent it from warping.
      Hopefully some of this info helps! I usually don't ever see if someone responds to a comment I posted so if you have further questions don't hesitate to make a new comment ^_^

  • @Chiri135

    How do you make one of these that doesn't slip all over the doll's head? My first wig cap was a mess and just did not want to stay. I ended up putting a little big of putty on the inside just so I could get it to stay put for me to attach the hair and attempt to style it. What am I doing wrong? T^T I don't think I should be using putty to make it stay put.

    The couple I have made seemed to grow too big when I was done. I noticed that you went really far down the back of the head, could that make a difference in how it later fits? I use the same materials you used, but once I'm done and take the cap off it is big and floppy. D'X
    Thank you for making this video by the way. xD

    • @PinotNoirIceCreamBar
      @PinotNoirIceCreamBar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ahh, yes, that's happened to me a couple times too. Definitely try going farther down the back of the head - often if you don't cover enough of the doll's head the wig cap will lose it's form and become floppy. That being said, some sculpts are difficult to work with. Just cover as much as you can and remember to pull your fabric as tightly as possible - you can always cut away extra in the end ^_^ Hope that helps!

    Instead of using fabric for the base- use baby wipes half dry. Easy, cheap and more flexible, after applying the glue on top of it.

      +Sandra Mcghee hi! So personally I've never tried to sew on this type of wig cap, so I can't recommend sewing. I don't think this type of wig cap would withstand a lot of sewing and unfortunately I don't know a *lot* about rerouting hair for dolls - otherwise I would be able to tell you a bit more I bet! I still think you could make an awesome wig for any size doll with this method though :) good luck!!

    Your videos are awesome! Got me trying out this wig making method even lacking any of the right materials! Wig cap out of thick polar fleece and cheap brushed acrylic yarn for hair. But I got an idea of the time and how to work this style for future and it was inspired by finding your videos!
    In the UK I've had trouble sourcing the fiber for the hair, but I found this, if you get a chance could you tell me if the alpaca fibers here would work? www.worldofwool.co.uk/products/50/speciality_fibres.htm Absolutely no worries if you can't!

    • @PinotNoirIceCreamBar
      @PinotNoirIceCreamBar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Awesome to hear you're finding ways of practicing even without the materials you'd like to use ^___^ I hope all your projects are going well so far (and will in the future as well)!
      As for the website - it is a bit hard to tell through the pictures if the fiber is combed into locks or if something else is going on. You could order a sample pack to see what the fiber is like, but you might want to contact them to make sure. Pictures can be tricky and you don't want to end up buying yarn.
      Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! And hey, let us know if that website works out for you, it'd be a great resource to share :)

      It's been so much fun just making wigs, and even making a second with the same stuff created much better results. So I'm really looking forward to getting the right stuff in future!
      Thank you for having a look for me! I'll give the sample pack a go, heck might even wind up with enough to make something for a smaller doll even with that.
