    The Canon EOS Rebel T7i and Canon EOS Rebel 77D are Canon’s newest DSLRs in the Rebel lineup and both have the new 24MP sensor with massive quality improvements and a 45 point cross type dual pixel AF system. However, many hardware differences set these two cameras apart so let’s go in-depth in this hands on review to see which one might be the best fit for you.

    Please compare canon t7i with 80d , How both of them look in hand ? Is 80d is enough bulky as compared to t7i ? I have normal size hands, rebel cameras feel comfortable in hands.
    I'll be very thankful if you show both of camra camera in your hand s , I want to see how they look in hands .

    Canon naming convention is so extremely bad and confusing when it comes to their lower end/consumer cameras. Especially with the variations in regional names.

  • @nevadaxtube

    Based on picture quality alone, the T7i looks like the best bang for the buck. It is $350 less than the 80D and that can buy extra batteries for sure.

      80D has microadjustment, stronger body, weather sealed, more ISO options, 100 160 200 320 400...
      but the image quality and autofocus system is the same.

    • @nevadaxtube

      I agree there are some differences, but the Canon T7i will produce images as good or better than the 80D. In my book, image quality is the top priority.

      Khalo Kaiser, In theory, nikon wins but in pratical threre's no difference. I think that Canon is a better product because the liveview system is way better and the Dualpixel technology is a great advantage.

    For me the 80D was never in contention. I started looking at the SL2, then on learning that it was the half-brother of the T7i and 77D fraternal twins, ended up comparing the three. I managed to find a 77D camera body less-lens for the same price as a T7i less-lens. The 18-55 kit lens with these cameras isn't advanced enough compared to the older IS-II lens that I already had to justify spending money on it, and while the 55-250 looks decent, there are better, cheaper lenses available.
    So I bought the 77D, a new 24mm f/2.8 prime, a used 18-135 NanoUSM with the video controller (that works with the control app on the phone) for the same money as the T7i kit with lens, and then have subsequently picked up a few more lenses. The 77D is small enough that my wife is comfortable using it too; it's almost the same size and weight as the old Rebel XS/1000D that it replaced.
    If I buy another camera it'll probably be mirrorless. No hurry on that though.

    3 important reasons to upgrade from T5i or T6i to T7i:
    1 - Battery life, 400 shots on T6i, 820 shots on T7i;
    2 - Buffer, 6 shots on T6i, 21 shots on T7i;
    3 - Dual Pixel AF.

    really appreciate answering questions that one may have in buying these cameras....great job in covering the features that would be used. Also like the fact that you show that one camera feature may not make a huge difference, if that feature is not that important to the photographer.

    Ironically, fast forward 6 years later, you can buy 77d's on MPB for over 150-175 less then a T7i (I just bought a 77d and love it - paid $374) . So in 2023 the 77d is certainly a better value. They are both older cameras but 77d or 70d can be found for super cheap nowadays and both do a lot if you are an amateur photographer

    OK here we go, earlier today I spent literally three hours going back and forth from E-Bay to TH-cam, then back to E-Bay, then Back to You-Tube and sometimes double checking on Amazon for comparrison trying to decide which camera to buy.
    1, CANON 80D
    2, CANON 800D/T7i
    3, CANON 77D
    Price was certainly a factor, and noticed that most used 80D even on the used end were around $650.00+usd - $750.00+usd with only a very few with lenses, and $800.00+usd - $1000.00+usd Plus with lenses, and $1000.00+usd -$2000.00+usd with premium lenses and bundle deals.
    However the 80D's were either from Japan or Hong Kong, and If I had gone with the this, I would have definately bought the Japan listing.
    The big plus for the 80D I liked was the weather sealing option, which for me living and working in Southwest Florida is a factor especially from May to October.
    Other listings were either private sellers or stock photo's
    For the past 4 months I have really wanted the 90D, but considering I am not in the market for 4K or a $1200.00usd pricetag it just wasnt going to happen right now. ( But that 90D is pretty nice! )
    The 800D/T7i was going to be my pick considering price points and value.
    However.... I own a T3i ( which has served me very well, and will still keep ) but... I wanted a better build quality and 1080 @ 60 Frames ( I dont need 4K right now )
    The 800D/T7i were priced around $450.00usd ( USED / without lenses ) and anywhere from $455.00+usd - $700.00+usd with lenses ( USED ) and brand new around $600.00+usd to $800.00+usd.
    Then right about the time I was going to check out, I noticed on the lower part of the 80D listing I was about to buy, There was a Brand New 77D for $594.00usd and I put it ( on Watchlist ) from a seller in Brooklyn New York USA with a good seller rating.
    After buying the 77D I went back on EBay and looked around for a decent lens, and again, I scolled aound back and forth from TH-cam and Ebay over and over....
    Another post purchase was a TAKSTAR SGC-598 Interview Microphone for $31.99usd which was a no brainer. This mic has excellent recording range and will fit the hotshoe mount.
    The final post purchase was Replacement Battery Grip for Canon EOS 77D Camera + 2 LP-E17 Battery + Charger for $58.95USD. This will cover me for extra power and AA battery power accommodation if need be.
    Then I found a nice Tamron AF 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC for about $129.00usd which was used but in perfect condition with the original box, hood, manual, and wrapping ( GEAT DEAL )
    This lens will cover me for any short and long range video shots that I will need.
    Years ago this lens was selling for $400.00usd when they originally released it.
    After seeing the 77D I went over here to TH-cam and THIS VIDEO POPPED UP
    ( dude with the Fro Above )
    I watched, I liked, I learned.... and Boom, It was official.
    The 77D offers the Digi 7 processor , I get the 1080 @60 , it works with my existing lenses, and I also found a Fotodiox Pro Focus Confirmation Adapter Sony A Lens to Canon EOS EF/EF-S to Sony A mount ( Lens ) $53.00 ) for my oldschool 35mm film camera Minolta lenses ( 28-80mm 3.5-5.6 / 50mm 1.7 / and 75-300mm 4.0-5.6 ) as well as my 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 and Tamron 70-300mm 4.0-5.6.
    " All in All, I felt like the 77D would be best for me "
    Since I have recieved the 77D it does a fair job at AUTOFOCUS ( but a bit mechanically noisy )
    I am happy with the purchase and look forward to making more videos with it.
    Also, if your reading this post/comment, Feel free to check out my TH-cam Channel as well.
    I have been on TH-cam for about a decade, and have produced well over 650 fully edited video's
    ( Most are with my Canon T3i )
    Thanks, Jason

      They all have the same image quality so it's all about features. The SL3 has the worst autofocus for photos so skip that and get the T7i or 77D. The 77d has some extra buttons and a few small features which are nice if you can afford it but I'd still be fine with the T7i

      More like an upgrade of 760D (T6S). Difference is just the number of focus points, an additional fps, dual pixel focusing, bluetooth and the longer battery life. 70D is still better, bar the number of focus points.

      Hey. The 77D and T7i don't have the higher bitrate recording option that the 80D has so if a minor quality difference is super important, you might consider the 80D. But if you are shooting for youtube, then who cares since the youtube bitrate is WAY lower than what the T7i can record at.

I really could use the extra cash on some other equipment but the 80d is weather sealed and my country has 4 seasons and in october or spring(sometimes summer too) we have rainy days. So is it worth the extra for the weather seal or should i pick the 77d?

    Hey Dan, a great job on the camera's. I wanted to ask you a question about the lock button on the 77D and 80D's mode dial. I'm a Quadriplegic as I use a special home made mouth stick to operate my Panasonic FZ100 as it works very well. I've been wanting to buy a DSLR as I love the 80D but not sure if I can operate the mode dial with the lock button. For me, that may be a problem. I were wondering, could that lock button be taped down while using the camera as long as the mode dial were not touched? I may have a good way to push the lock button down with my mouth stick to turn the dial. Thank you.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Hmmm...I don't think you could get around that lock dial. It would be difficult to impossible to generate enough force to hold it down with tape or anything else I could think of. You would almost need a custom metal/plastic bracket you made for the flash hotshoe that extended over the mode dial to push down the lock. They have 1/4" attachments you can use on the hotshoe to hold things like monitors or LED lights so a custom version of that is the only thing I think could work

      Picture quality is the same and both have dual AF for videos. The 80D is a more rugged body though and would be more likely to last 5 years than the plastic T7i

    I am going after the superior Dual Pixel AF with the Digic 7 processor.
    Would the T7i be as good or better than the 80D in this case (I don't need AF speed adjustments which the 80D has). I just need better AF than my GH5 and Sony Mirrorless.

      @learningcameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should look at the 77D then: bhpho.to/2nnPNlB which has more of the controls you would need and the same specs as the T7i. The 80D AF is still great but technically the upgraded Digic 7 on the 77D is going to be a slight bit faster. All of the above will be better than the GH5 AF

    Hi,
    I am planning to buy a new camera with a budget around $1000. My interest areas are to learn couple, wedding, new born photography. I am inclined towards Canon80D. Is it a good idea to buy 80D in 2019? 90D is out of my budget. 80D with kit lens is coming around $900. Can you please suggest if going with 80D would be a good idea or is there any other option that I should consider. Also can you please suggest the best lens to pickup to learn the mentioned photography genre? Cheers, Kautuk

      Even in 2019, Canon 80D is a pretty good option to buy. Not to mention, you'll have 100% viewfinder. And as for lenses, 85mm or 135mm should suffice.

    Thanks for mentioning the bulb mode on the 77D! I would be very interested in what other differences there are in the camera software.
    I'm looking to replace my 550D which has Magic Lantern software on it, allowing me to take long exposures with custom exposure times (up to 10 min.). ML is also great because it allows you to remotely lock up the mirror, open the shutter, wait for all vibrations to stop and only then start capturing the image. Can the 77D (or T7i) do something like that?

    • @learningcameras

    Hi Dan, I have been using the Rebel T5, as a learning DSLR Camera. So what camera do you recommend to upgrade, to take my photography to the next level?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. So the T7i would be a great choice and does have some noticeable upgrades. However, before you upgrade I would know in what areas you feel like you are maxing out your t5. Is the autofocus too slow, do you want better image quality, are you looking to do more professional shooting, do you want 4k video? What is making you want to upgrade. Also, what lenses do you own because lenses can make a massive difference in quality.

    Hi Dan, thank you for a great review. Question: I am considering the T7i, I hike and backpack every weekend and see amazing things close by as well as far away (think Big Horn Sheep, Deer, etc). When you backpack weight is always and issue and I don't want to carry multiple lenses. What would you recommend as one very good all-around lens for this scenario? Thank you.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Thanks! So if you want a single all in one lens, check out my review of this one: th-cam.com/video/AzkaYjIloOU/w-d-xo.html
      But if you can carry two lenses, get a 100-400mm like this: bhpho.to/2fFMALs or 100-300mm like: bhpho.to/2x2FV5q AND a decent wider zoom like this: amzn.to/2xMlj01 or you can work with the kit lens if that's all you have.
      The quality on those single all in one lenses is not amazing but you can't beat the zoom range in a single lens.

      I would lean that way. The only thing that would make me consider the 77D for vlog would be the ability to adjust your aperture and ISO with 2 separate controls. On the 800D, you have to hit the AV button while scrolling to control aperture. But lighter is typically great for vlog

    @ianholmes5951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I am trying to start a photography business as well as begin making videos. I have a budget of around $1000 (I am 17) and I have a few wants/needs for a camera. These include: Sharp image quality, at least 6 fps shooting, at least 1080p 60fps (slow motion is something I will be doing) but 4k would be much better, at least 20000 iso, wi fi and bluetooth as well as time lapse mode would be nice, tilting display, good auto focus, microphone port (not necessary but it would be nice), a touch screen would be great, Environmental sealing would also be nice, lots of lenses to choose from. So those are my needs/wants in a camera, It will be for everything from landscape photography, to product photography, portraits and the video will be used just as much. I have narrowed my search to 2 camera that I have found and can get for the same price right now. They are the Canon T7i and the Sony a6300. The kits I found have the following: Canon T7i, EF-S 18 - 55mm IS STIM, EF-S 55 - 250mm lens, filter, battery charger, 2 batteries and camera bag or the Sony a6300, 16 - 50mm lens, battery and charger. Both kits cost the same. I am having trouble deciding, I like the T7i for the ease of use i.e. touch screen, fully articulating, lots of lens options, good button layout, classic dslr feel and the 60fps 1080p is the only reason I want to pay more for it over the T6i which is $500 off at the moment as I want to do slow motion. But I am disappointed that it doesn't have 4k which is why the sony a6300 is nice. I like the 4k capabilities and the 1080p 60fps. Really both cameras have similar photography capabilities. But I am disappointed that the sony a6300 doesn't have a touch screen and the numerous articles about sony a6300's over heating are worrisome as well as the poor button layout. Anyways, my question is which of these 2 packages is the better option for my needs as both are the same price and if you have a better option to recommend please let me know! Thank you very much and I hope to hear some replies soon as the deals are time sensitive. Thanks.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, your comment got thrown in a spam folder for some reason so sorry for no response! It's a tough choice between those 2 cameras and there is no clear winner for the reasons you stated. The a6500 does give you a touch screen but it's more expensive. I wouldn't worry about overheating unless you are doing long recordings 30+ minutes in hot weather with direct sunlight and the T7i is definitely worth the upgrade from the T6i. The a6300 is definitely better quality but that flip out touch screen on the Canon is amazing.

    does 800D and 77D has inbuilt time lapse? will they store time lapse pics in RAW format?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not 100% sure but this is what I know. It can record a time lapse video which does not keep the jpeg or RAW files....just makes a video in both cameras. The 77D also has an intervalometer which you can use to shoot the images to create a time lapse in post and you should be able to shoot either RAW or jpeg for that. Not sure if you can create a time lapse movie in camera from those files. The camera I still have is the T7i and which only has the movie time lapse function with no intervalometer.

    I'm currently shooting with a T5i and just purchased a new 70D on clearance for $600 but now I'm torn. I mainly shoot videos for my channel but do enjoy taking photos and posting to Instagram etc... I mainly wanted to upgrade for faster autofocusing, better low light, crisper video/photos and wifi. I see that the T7i and 77D both have Bluetooth which means my phone could always be connected, making a post to social media a little quicker but is it REALLY useful? Should I keep the 70D because I got a pretty good deal for it being new? is the T7i worth the extra $150? or should I try and save an extra $300 (I know $300 may not be a lot to some but I'm on a budget) to get the 77d or maybe an 80D(although it doesn't have Bluetooth) since some websites are showing it to be similar in price to the 77d (wonder how legit that is though lol) Cleary all of these options are better than my T5i but I'm torn as to which option gives me the most bang for my buck. HELP!

      @learningcameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the good news is the 77D, T7i, and 80D are all pretty much identical as far as quality is concerned. The difference lies with things like the body handling, custom buttons, battery size, 2nd screen....things like that. The 80D's larger battery would be better if you do all day shooting and the larger grip and better build quality will last longer and handle larger lenses better. The T7i/77D would be better if you are trying to keep things smaller/lighter/cheaper but still get the same quality. You miss out on some more pro end options/custom buttons but probably nothing you can't live without. Hope that helps a little!!! The more autofocus points there are, the better the camera will focus on subjects further away from the center especially when those subjects are moving quickly. The 200D also loses a few buttons, doesn't shoot as fast, and can't shoot very many images in a row so it just depends on your needs.

      Dan Watson thank you dan for quick reply, giving you final trouble 😊 77D or 80D your take between both as I'm not professional just casual user.

      From a quality perspective they are almost identical. Most of the features are related to more advanced features and build quality. Since those don't seem to apply much to you, I would be more likely to spend the extra money on a lens than the upgrade to the 80D

      77D unless you are planning on upgrading to full frame later or getting into more pro photography, in which case get the 80d

    The screen on top is a gimmick but it does make it look professional.

    m50 or t7i... What do you think

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      T7i. M50 lenses suck which is the biggest reason. Only get the M50 if you will be using the kit lens and never plan on getting much more.

    If you really wanna go for Canon, grab the 80D. If you want a better Cam grab the Fuji XT2 or Sony 6500.

    It's been several years since the 7d II was launched...
    With my luck, I'll go for one of these cameras and the next week, Canon will launch the 7d III or an 8d.

      haha. If only there were some decent lenses without adapters, I would recommend it more. That said I still have my original EOS M and can't bring myself to sell it. I use it with the 22mm F2 which is a great combo and then use adapters for everything else. The 22mm F2 is my only native lens for the M

      My 'main photography gear' Nikon. But for running around with the kids and vacation stuff (with video) and maybe some light youtubing, I picked up the M6 canon. I get 80D, 77D, T7i quality in i a much smaller package. So it's still great quality for those purposes...and with the 22mm F2 that I have my eye on, it may prove to be pretty decent setup. :) Great review by the way. Keep it up. Cheers! :)
