My wife just bought me this adventure for Christmas 2024. I remember playing it back when it came out, but I don’t recall anything about it besides remembering that I liked it but it was a great Christmas gift that she got me.
@@The_Custos It's extremely pricey in it's original form due to rarity, but was redone as part of 'Egg of the Phoenix'. The R series was the 1st to use the acronym 'THAC0' too.
Love the passion... Yeah it's a turd... Several of the encounters/ideas have to be salvaged because several of the individual parts are "fine" and reuasble but together... Yeah... Flaming turd I'm so happy I didn't buy that one back in the day... I went for "Egg of the Phoenix" instead, which I really love!
After reading the new Dungeons and Dragons player handbook, Dungeon master guide and monster manual, whatever the new edition will be called, writing equality and game, mechanical wise, is on par with N2 the forest Oracle. Even ignoring all the stupid pandering and political correctness like succubus being asexual, genderless and now caring about consent with mortals.
...and you didn't even mention the HUGE caverns. The writer has a history of "good ideas, shoddy execution". Given he was on TSR's payroll as an editor, that's just not good enough!

To be honest, we were also laughing a lot at the dice rolling program that absolutely hated us.
I remember when we rolled three 1s in a row with d20s. 1 in 8,000 chance. I mean, it could be legit. Then we broke the streak with a 2 😅.
I had a lot of fun running this with my kids. I made the High Druid a high Druid.
I love your review! I DMed this module, and it was a snore fest back in 1985.

I'm taking my players through this dog currently. One of their reactions was: "This two foot deep river is over a mile wide?"
All you need to do is rewrite the plot and all of the encounters and you can use the maps as they exist and scrap all of the boxed text.
Sounds like this as good as eating chili beans than downing a gallon of milk . 😂
To be fair, I think they meant to add three to the scores. But the automatically breaking rope - I mean, what possessed them to write that?
To the Aid of Falx review anytime soon?
I've never run it - maybe one day?
@@yeoldegeek71 just found out about it recently.

@yeoldegeek71 I just use ☠️ pdfs.
Maybe this was intended for novice editors.

Many modules run far better than they read... this is most certainly not one of them. Awful, truly awful. 🤣
