Hehe, we always have the discussion about which ones are edible, they love to munch on nasturtiums in the garden, or to grab fronds of kale etc, so I didn't think much about it when they gave them to me and I said they were edible hehe.
Nice to see that your garden has provided some food that the Bush rats didnt get. Maybe get the kids to pour your washing up water over the plants with the aphids. They don't like soapy water and it won't hurt the plants. Looking forward to seeing you harvesting what you can
Your snapdragons are lovely. I've been bingeing your videos and really enjoying them. I appreciate the work you go to in order to publish so often considering your large family, and other enterprises to say nothing of all of the cooking and preserving you do. I always hoped to have a large family so am living vicariously right now. Thanks!
They're such lovely colours! I thought they hadn't made it, so was a pleasant surprise! I don't know that I planned a large family lol, but it just felt right!
It's quite pleasant! We don't buy cans much, I buy Coke for D at christmas as a treat, but generally we try and stick to homemade cordial and the soda stream, but I forgot to take the gas to Brisbane when I went!
Every time I watch I discover new things. I looked up a lot because I had never heard of them. Some I looked up and found that I heard of them but they are different wording used here in the USA. Example, capsicums are bell peppers. I also enjoy different pronunciations such as you say basil (bazzil) and most here say (baysil). That's one of the reasons why I have enjoyed your channel for the past several years. Also, seeing things like preparing meals which I can no longer do because of physical limitations. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!
everything i grew died this year, perth was sooooo dry and what rain we did get my area didnt get any but ive replanted winter stuff so have the cabbage and cauliflower down together with some leeks, later this week it will be broccoli and spinach and silverbeet, and yes i totally gave up too,
Happy Mothers Day. We celebrate it in March in the UK. I'd be really interested in a video about the Ninja Creami. It's my birthday next month and I'm thinking of getting one.
I will be buying musk sticks to try even if they have to ship from Australia! The basil looks amazing, I've never been able to grow it. I love going out to the garden and finding something that did well, which doesn't happen often 😅
The kebab marinade is a make we have here in the UK and its all very good , they have mainly middle Eastern food and we enjoy most of it , I usually buy it on offer and then add some extras but its good for a quick meal. Happy Mothers day !
Hehe, I like to let them know which flowers are edible, they love to eat 'spicy flowers' (nasturtiums) and I like to put them on their salads etc hehe. Thank you! :D
Wow I really like those green garden beds! It’s exciting to know stuff is growing and hopefully next year it will thrive! I follow someone in here in Arizona that also grows the rosella but that’s the only other time I’ve seen it. The plants are large and pretty. You got a good amount of meat for your $50 this month as well! Thank you for the peek at the garden!
I'm down in SA and we're getting down into the 8-12 degrees at night (4 a few nights ago), bugger all rain though and we're still growing one cherry tomato (it's over 7 foot high) and have our chillies and tomatillos still producing abundantly. My chillies plants are about 2 and halfish years old now, and they only lost most of their leaves for a couple of months at the end of winter last year. They are taking longer to ripen and grow though because of the cooler weather as we are around 22-23 degrees most days and near full sun as well. So suffice to say after all that rambling yours may last a big longer, although the pest problems may deter a longer season - time will tell and fingers crossed, but if you can I'd keep them in and try to over winter some of them, so they start off well later in the year - oh and Happy Mothers day from one mum to another :D
I have a day off! And lots to do! I get to binge watch since I haven't been able to watch anything in a while. Forwarning for an influx on comments 😂 I absolutely LOVE the garden tour. It looks so nice! Even as it's heading into winter. 😊 I did get a basil plant that I snook in the trailer park and made it as pretty as I could. No one has complained yet.... Lol. Basil ice cream! I'm coming over!
Happy Mother's day Nyssa. I was so excited to see a new video this morning to enjoy while having my coffee ☕ on this early Mother's day morning. Such a blessing to get a load of peppers 🌶 just in time to refill your shelves with cowboy candy. Looks like sugar rush peach peppers. Every garden harvest is a blessing, not matter how big, or how small. 😊 They ate your bouquet 💐 😅😅😅.
So many peppers/chillies from Darryl getting them, the hamper and your garden. Isn’t it surprising what survives. I had one cauliflower that re flowered and a tomato plant that is now about 5ft tall. The possums are eating the shoots off my Passionfruit vine but they have left alone the flowers. Still I remain envious of your Basil as I can’t seen to ever grow it. I have some seeds in a tray now. But it is getting very cold at night. We went off exploring the night sky last night down at the southern coast here in Vic for Aurora Australis. So pleased we did. It was great. Definitely photographs better than what the naked eye sees. That was like a Mothers Day gift for me. Happy Mothers Day to you. I got a Anthurium and some face cream. Happy Birthday for next week.
Wow! You have enough basil in your garden to make a few years worth of pesto! That's great! I am so jealous of all the chillies that you got! Our down here are about 30 a kilo!
July two years ago, hubby and I did a road trip from just south of the Adelaide Hills to Darwin and back. On the way home we stopped at the town of Adelaide River because they were having a rosella festival (the plant, not the bird). It was the first time I'd tried rosella fruit and I did buy a few things.
Even if the tomatoes are green they will ripen if you bring them inside.I make green tomato pickles from everyones green tomatoes and if i dont get them done quickly we get some that ripen so thats a bonus for us.
I made green tomato pickles one year when I had a bumper crop and an early frost, but no one really liked them unfortunately! I will bring them in if needed, but they taste so much better when I pick them ripe heh
Happy mother's day. My birthday is also in a weeks time on the 18th. So I know the joint mothers day/ birthday thing well lol. I'm a big gardener and can grow most things very well but I struggle with chilli and capsicum as in the south of Australia. I'm trying to over winter a few under make shift green houses made from rose arches. Maybe a few will re shoot in spring and then produce next summer.
That’s the hope! I’ll top up the beds with some top soil, because they’ve sunk which was to be expected after the first year and hopefully the compost has settled and we’re good to go!
Happy Mother's Day and a happy birthday as well. Yes, my vege gardens looked a bit like that a few months ago. They didn't get much attention whilst it was either too hot or raining or I was away for a month. I was quite surprised to find all my onions Parsley and Thai basil I'd ignored had reshot and look lovely now. I also had some animal that was eating my vege seedlings then the produce. Good luck with your winter crops.
Happy Mother's Day 😊 to you also! Hope you get peppers to freeze. Our garden season is just starting, got plants in. Praying this year is better than last! I also gave up! are going to get
everything crossed for you! and I'm going to give it another good go this year, I hope to get the garden cleaned up and looking good over the cooler weather and really try hard again! get the irrigation in before it heats up etc, all those things we were supposed to do last year and didn't!
I loved the garden tour! I’m so glad some of the plants made a come back! What is a bush rat? Pesky little things for sure. I also enjoyed the kids eating your Mother’s Day flowers! Too cute!
I'd quite like to see the animal set up too. And see what scraps of food are usable for the chickens and pigs and what just goes in the compost. And maybe your compost set up. And even things like firewood collection and storage would also be interesting to me. I have always liked the idea of a having a small holding here in the uk.
considering you gave up on the garden earlier on, it bounced back great, every little helps xx, and the kids ate your mothers day flowers was hilarious but better off in the stomach than dying in a vase lol xx
Yes, there's quite a lot there considering! a lot of bare patches, but I'm ok with it, we're going to refurb and start fresh next year, give it one more really really good go before I decide whether I just downsize etc.
Your gardens so promising. I have a pumpkin plant that was going great then all the leaves started to look white and wilting away. I was really looking forward to growing some huge pumpkins. Happy Mother’s Day 🌸
Happy Mothers Day 💕 I love musk sticks. Look into buying your own gas bottle to refill your soda stream canisters. I believe it is much cheaper than exchanging them at Kmart or Harvey Normans. Kegland has a TH-cam video on how to do it.
We run a 6.5kg bottle that we get refilled! :D But we have to do it in Brisbane or sometimes Toowoomba, but I forgot to take it with me on the last supply run! doh!
Great video. I hand pollinate my zucchini, squash, pumpkins, cucumber, and any vining vegetable or gourd etc. They produce A Ton. People ask me why...because I take a male flower and literally go around to the female ones and pollinate. Lots of videos on TH-cam on how to do it.
I have always hand pollinated as well, it just makes for better cropping! but everything that started growing got eaten by bush rats before I could eat it *sigh* The plan is to figure out some aviary mesh tunnels over everything for next year, so the pollinators can get in, but so that I can stop the rats from getting in as well.
Those pepper plants look amazing. Mine do nothing. I don't think we get enough sun in my part of the uk. And I don't have room for a decent size green house. I'd love all those basil plants.
Considering how much they were chewed down, they've bushed out wonderfully! I don't think the fruit will have much chance to ripen/get much size, because we got down to 2 degrees overnight :O but I'm grateful for anything I get off them and I hope my basil survived the night!
Happy Mothers Day!! Great video. A "whipper snipper" I assume is a weedeater here in West Virginia and I'm so glad the kids enjoyed your flowers. A couple of made me smile moments.❤😊
Another great hamper. Happy Mothers Day to you Nyssa, you truly are a supermum 😊 There's a guy on TH-cam called Self Sufficient Me who just put up a video on making rosella jam 😊
I'll have to check it out, I don't watch a lot of his videos, he has some great info, but his growing seasons are so different to ours being that he doesn't get anywhere near as cold :D
Happy Mothers Day to you too! I was wondering how you'd be spending it... Wow, I can't believe how much stuff you got in the hamper! I wish there was one near me. Take a break today & enjoy your day xx
Hello an Happy mother's Day to us too. An I like to make pickles with the cukes. Mine u make r refrigerator pickles 1 jar atta time. ❤😂but theyr so good an crunchy. Same with beets I make my own version of them too in a jar in the fridge.

Happy Mothers day, Nyssa! My birthday is in a week as well, the 19th. Mother's day is tomorrow for us. The garden in that state is what I lovingly call "Natural", lol 😆 I'm very glad that it worked out for you to be able to make your cowboy candy. I get so many ideas from you on what to use it in. I do have a question 🤔 what is a roselle? I've seen one other fella post about a jam made with it. Anyway, take good care! 😊
I think they're an Australian Native! they're in the hibiscus family and you harvest the calyx's to make jam or cordial, it has a super vibrant colour to it!
I cracked up laughing 😂 when you said your children ate your mother's day flowers 😂 sounds like something my children would do.
❤
Hehe, we always have the discussion about which ones are edible, they love to munch on nasturtiums in the garden, or to grab fronds of kale etc, so I didn't think much about it when they gave them to me and I said they were edible hehe.
Nice to see that your garden has provided some food that the Bush rats didnt get. Maybe get the kids to pour your washing up water over the plants with the aphids. They don't like soapy water and it won't hurt the plants. Looking forward to seeing you harvesting what you can
We celebrate Mothers Day on the same day as Australia ❤🇨🇦
Happy Mother's day, Nyssa. You are such a good Mom, all the things you do for your family. Enjoy your special day. x
Mince the basil and with a bit of water, you can freeze it in ice cube trays. Then you'll have pre portioned basil for cooking with.
Happy Mother's Day Nyssa, you are an amazing mother dedicated to your 6 beautiful children. Be proud of the Mum you are ❤
Naww, thank you! :D

Happy mothers day 😊love the garden tour. Looking forward to seeing the cowboy candy.
Thank you! :D. I'm glad there's so much green still poking through! though it got down to 2 degrees overnight lol, after all that.
happy Mother's day to you hope you had a wonderful day
Happy Mother's Day, Nyssa.
The lettuce leaves, could be used as a wrapper , bite size. (bread substitute, called a California wrap years ago).
That blackberry bubbly is my favorite.
It's quite pleasant! We don't buy cans much, I buy Coke for D at christmas as a treat, but generally we try and stick to homemade cordial and the soda stream, but I forgot to take the gas to Brisbane when I went!

I will be buying musk sticks to try even if they have to ship from Australia! The basil looks amazing, I've never been able to grow it. I love going out to the garden and finding something that did well, which doesn't happen often 😅
Thsi year for your garden, just chuck a whole lot of seeds randomly and see what takes off!
Happy Mother's Day! From Virginia, USA. Yes, Vicks is a common brand here in the US.

Snapdragon snack ? It was the thought that counts 😂 Happy Mother’s Day!

Snap dragons was my father's favorite flower! 😍 I didn't know they were edible!
I try and grow only flowers that are or usable for salves and stuff too! pretty and useful.
I love basil, its such a fantastic flavour.
Happy Mother's day Nyssa. I was so excited to see a new video this morning to enjoy while having my coffee ☕ on this early Mother's day morning. Hopefully the plants coming back means the mushroom compost has cooled down and things might be better next year!

Loved the kids eating your Mother’s Day flowers😂
Hehe, I spose its better than them dying in a vase :D
I'd quite like to see the animal set up too. And see what scraps of food are usable for the chickens and pigs and what just goes in the compost. And maybe your compost set up. And even things like firewood collection and storage would also be interesting to me.
I have always liked the idea of a having a small holding here in the uk.
❤❤❤ love your channel thanks for sharing your experience from Debbie Cahill from Ireland ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Basil freezes well in zip lock bags, I freeze the best leaves and some flowers for winter sauces
considering you gave up on the garden earlier on, it bounced back great, every little helps xx, and the kids ate your mothers day flowers was hilarious but better off in the stomach than dying in a vase lol xx
Yes, there's quite a lot there considering! a lot of bare patches, but I'm ok with it, we're going to refurb and start fresh next year, give it one more really really good go before I decide whether I just downsize etc.
Happy Mothers Day❤ I did laugh when you explained about the snap dragons😂 gotta love the kids eh😂😂
Your gardens so promising. I have a pumpkin plant that was going great then all the leaves started to look white and wilting away. I was really looking forward to growing some huge pumpkins.
Happy Mother’s Day 🌸
Happy Mother's day Nyssa, your garden is looking lovely

Have a lovely Mother's Day Nyssa and a great week! Love the video!
here in the UK we called snapdragons bunny rabbits as kids
They're such a fun little flower!
Loved that your kids ate your flowers! LOL I would appreciate that too. LOVE your videos Nyssa! Happy Mother's Day from Minnesota!
Thank you! :D. I like to let them know which ones are edible, hehe, we put them on cakes and in salads and stuff! :D
Nice hamper and the snap dragons are lovely Happy Mother's Day 🌹😊
Happy Mother's Day Nyssa :) With all the lovely basil you have it's that pesto time of the year!!
Happy Mothers Day. What is cowboy candy?
Sweet pickled chillies / Jalapenos :D. The brine has a fair amount of sugar in it, but lots of heat too, its thick and super tasty :D
Happy Mothers Day Nyssa! And all other mothers in our world. ❤
Happy Mothers Day!! Great video. A "whipper snipper" I assume is a weedeater here in West Virginia and I'm so glad the kids enjoyed your flowers. A couple of made me smile moments.❤😊
Hehe, I'm not sure! has nylon or a blade that spins round on the base and you use it to edge or take tall grass down before mowing etc ? :D
@@OurSmallFootprint yes we call those weed eaters.
I just loved the whipper snipper!!! ❤️ 😆
Happy Mothers Day Nyssa 🌼
Happy mothers day Nyssa hope you have a wonderful day xxx
Another great hamper. Happy Mothers Day to you Nyssa, you truly are a supermum 😊
There's a guy on TH-cam called Self Sufficient Me who just put up a video on making rosella jam 😊
I'll have to check it out, I don't watch a lot of his videos, he has some great info, but his growing seasons are so different to ours being that he doesn't get anywhere near as cold :D
@OurSmallFootprint true, I think he's up Bribie Island way, but it's definitely worth a look 😊
@@shellebelle53 He has some great info! but with an almost all year round growing season, a lot of his stuff I can't implement unfortunately :S
Happy Mother’s Day and Early Happy Birthday.Hope you have a great day.

Happy Mother's Day from Canada 🇨🇦!!
Thank you! :D
New subscriber, thoroughly enjoying your channel! Hello from Texas!
Hi! :D and welcome :D
Happy Mother's day to you.
Vicks is a big brand for cough drop/syrup type health items. Little pricey. The pkg in your hamper would be about $9.
I wasn't sure if it was worldwide! They'll come in handy the next time a kid is congested! :D
Happy mothers nessa❤❤
Hello an Happy mother's Day to us too. An I like to make pickles with the cukes. Mine u make r refrigerator pickles 1 jar atta time. ❤😂but theyr so good an crunchy. Same with beets I make my own version of them too in a jar in the fridge.

Peppers 🌶️🥒 an jalapenos do good in the cooler weather aspecally after a cold snap.😂
It got down to 2 degrees overnight last night, so they might not flourish much longer!
❤
Happy mother's Day can we have a building update please
We should have it sealed mostly by the end of the day, I'll do an update once we have that part done :D
It is in the hibiscus family! The calyx’s can be used to make cordials and jams and things like that, it’s got a beautiful colour to it!
I just love the Australian words. And we call it all English. Lol.
What is a rosel? I've never heard that word.
I think they're an Australian Native! they're in the hibiscus family and you harvest the calyx's to make jam or cordial, it has a super vibrant colour to it!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What do you use the compfrey for? I grow it but for the chickens (dandelion are edible also, whole plant)
If It is really lush, I use it as a mulch around my fruit trees, but I also dry some and infuse it in oil for our salves for stings etc :)
Hi im new to your channel that’s is a nice hamper for $50 lots of food
That would be a lot lot in the USA for that price
We are very lucky!
Will you dry any basil for the winter?
I’m not a huge fan of dried basil tbh! But I will make some pesto for the freezer and prob freeze some in oil in ice trays too! :)
Happy Mother's Day Nyssa! When is your birthday?
Thank you! 🤗
