I don't get why people find his finnish voice sinister or scary. I always thought it was more mysterious and profound. Like if there would be an assigned voice to a strong, silent type, this would be it.

It's so silly how every foreigner seems to read finnish Snufkin as sounding sinister when from a finnish viewpoint he sounds calm and gentle, even kind and mysterious at most. Cultural differences are wild. Edit: To me all other voices for him have always felt very off because they lack the calm mysteriousness. I do think they've done a great job with the new Moominvalley Snufkin and his finnish voice though! It's got just enough of that same soul. The original english voice of his isn't half bad either compared to earlier engdubbed Snufkin of the 90s anime.
Haha, I agree! I can kind of understand why people would see this voice as sinister (I guess the whole whispery and calm voice can give off that vibe) but I just don’t see it myself. I just see him as a cool older brother type :) I kind of like his English voice direction too though. I definitely (though biased) prefer the Finnish voice, but the emotion he has in the English dub is a nice breathe of fresh air.
Yeah, people are just dumb. He just sounds in-character. It’s like saying that _Daria_ from the animated teen show Daria sounds like a villain for speaking in a slow, calm, deep voice. She lacks the mysterious and all-knowing sound that _Snufken_ has, but none of those five traits are villainous. A villain COULD be those things, but isn’t usually. He sounds younger too. Like a young guy with an exceptionally deep voice. Combined with _Mumintroll_ sounding older, they sound closer in age, instead of a 10-year-old and a 40-year-old. For those unaware, they are in fact close to the same age, whatever that age is. They could be children, or young adults. Hard to say within the contexts of their happy, care-free world.
They don't seem sinister at all to me (a German). They seem pretty chill but it's a bit weird to me that the voices are so deep. They all sound at least 40 - 50 years old. In the English and German dubs most of them sound like kids and young adults (except older / adult characters).
What gets me more is how much older Moomin sounds! Here you really get that he and Snufkin are more around the same age, while the english dub makes Moomin sound like a small child.
And I hate it, ruins all englisch dub. It completely change if you take their relationship as a equal friendship or as relationship with a child who doesn't want his older friend to leave and older friend should babysitting him.
I think the only time the English dub did something better than the Finnish dub is in the Episode titled Phoenix where Moomin almost shoots a bullet through Snufkin's hat and him saying his stance on Moomin firing the gun makes it clear that Snufkin was very disappointed in Moomin while in the Finnish dub he feels more matter-of-fact to me in that scene. (Though the Finnish voice is clearly better)

I've never heard "You're vile" and "You'll see" so menacingly
Ugh, Finnish is such a nice language when spoken without loanwords or shortened words. I need to learn how to speak like this
@@maivaiva1412 okei...? Se on silti mun mielestä tosi kaunista
@@maivaiva1412 pitää muistaa että suurin osa meidän suomenkielestä on muinaisia lainasanoja.
Finnish Snufkin's voice is like calming to me but he also sort of sounds like someone who'd sell you illegal drugs in the corners of streets?
Yes. *it's perfect*
Exactly, and I’m Finnish.
Yeah
Wait til' he shows what's in his backpack
_snap_
It's funny to see how people think his voice is scary when as a kid I used to love Snufkin and I still love him and his voice, it's so serene and nice. I mean, he speaks kind of slowly and in a low voice so I guess that's why.
Just when I thought I couldn't be more in love with him, I found this video
0:12 Ok, the English dub of this scene drips with chaotic energy, but his deadpan Finnish voice is downright scary and I fucking love it! 🤣
The English dub is often so toothless, even in the small amount of clips I've seen. Glad I didn't misremember how good the Finnish voices were due to nostalgia or something!
Finnish Snufkin is basically Aragorn.
There used to be Moomin Lotr trailer on youtube. It got deleted due Copyright issues.
But they literally added Lotr soundtrack and lines over Finnish Moomin scenes from episodes and from the movie.
It made it look like an actual trailer for Lotr.
I grew up with the original dub of Finnish Moomin and I loved every second of Snufkin while he was on frame, his voice acting was just that hilarious and good, good times
Snufkin: It would be undoubtedly fun if you camw with me
Moomintroll: Yippee! Then i'll come with you!
Snufkin: *NO*
I love his voice soo much
*He sounds so done*
That's why I love him 🥵
He is
Fun but little fact: Snufkin in Finnish (90's) dub is voiced by Timo Torikka (The guy who goes; "Ryssä on tulos!!" in Talvisota movie) who also voices The Hobgoblin (where he's literally sinister sounding) and some other side characters (Where he sounds somewhat goofy).
*no one can beat finnish moomin !!*
Pleasantly surprised on how mature moomin sounds in basically any other dub besides the english.
I love all versions of snufkin
This is even better for a finnish person. The voice acting is great.
the difference is in english, the voices for the younger ones are very childlike, and in finnish everyone has grown up like voices
When I grew up I didn’t realize how much I loved his energy, it’s hilarious.
This video is a blessing!🙏
Hot dame Finnish Snufkin sounds so badass.
Maybe It will work if he's reading a story to Moomin.
