    This is the first time that I have watched a video on your channel, and I am impressed. It was a breath of fresh air to have somebody reviewing an Economy Class flight, as most Vloggers I've seen, generally corrall themselves in the unattainable Valhalla of Business Class, which impecunious mortals like myself very rarely get to travel in. It is good to see 'Cattle Class' getting a review, as it is the fate of most of us. I haven't flown with Qantas internationally for many years, more due to their habit of changing or cancelling flights, losing baggage and lousy customer service on their booking and 'help' services, than anything else. There are much better alternatives to Qantas operating out of Australia now!

    Yet again, another brilliant trip report. I flew this same route in late March year with Air New Zealand on their 787 and paid GB£171 or US$217. I really loved Auckland Internatioal Terminal. I found it quiet and intimate compared to most international airports such as Heathrow, Dubai and Singapore. I also flew BNE to SIN a week later with Qantas but in Business Class. I found the ground staff very friendly and supporive at a very emotional farewell to Austrailia and New Zealand and other more personal reasons. I woud certainly fly them again in 2025 when I visit Austrailia again. Your economy class headphones were certainaly better than Air New Zealand ear buds. Keep up the super reviews. Thank you 💙

    QF Frequent Flyer has entrapped 14 million members which is a huge pool of passengers who’ll put up with an average product. The departure of the former CEO should hopefully put concern for the passengers ahead of the corporate shareholders. Hope you enjoyed Brisvegas as it’s affectionately known. Great review as always.

      Ex crew here. We can see into the booking systems of our own airline. As staff (or retired) we enjoy discounts, but are first to be kicked off and last to load. Anyhoo, looking into the system we note that paid upgrade requests on popular Qantas routes usually outnumber the available seats.

    Hi Kevin, thanks for your videos. I am currently in BKK visiting family having flown here on the Qantas A330 for the first time, it was ok I guess but I have finally come to the conclusion that it all depends on the cabin crew if the food is edible or not, a flight I had 12 months ago from Changi to AU on SIA was the worst I have ever experienced, terrible cabin crew, inedible food no drinks, (3 times the price pre covid too), the legroom problem is always a pain in economy. Hi Kevin. Hope you had a nice time in Auckland despite hotel issues - no surprises there! You may be able to help me. I'm heading up to Vietnam next month for a couple of weeks. I'm flying Malaysian Airlines from Auckland to HCMC with a change of planes in KL. I'm flying Bus Class with the first leg being on an A330-200. I've flown Malaysian before and they're ok despite all the bad press. I did have an issue with the pod seating on my last trip - cant remember the aircraft though. I'm very tall so leg room is very important, I hate those little cubby holes you have to squeeze your feet into. Now I know seating configurations vary in Bus Class - even on the same plane so my question is can you recommend the best bus class seats on an A330-200 - especially an MAS one. Cheers

    Thanks for the awesome video and review! Yeah, these A330s are showing their age. They are still (just) ok for domestic flights (QF uses these between Perth and East Coast), but sub-par for international. I flew on one to Singapore last year and it wasn't the best. Having said that, the crew are always amazing.
    One last note - I'm really surprised that they were so strict with your cabin luggage! I've flown QF probably over 100 times, and have never had an issue with cabin luggage. Maybe it was the Auckland ground staff?

    Qantas was once one of the best airlines in the world. I was proud to say I worked for them 50 years ago. Over the years the service and quality has steadily declined. Hopefully the new CEO can come to the rescue and once again make it a competitive airline.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว

      My outlook is that nothing at Qantas will change until there is meaningful competition in the market, which is a much bigger problem than just Qantas itself. Especially as Qantas receives their A321XLRs and begins Project Sunrise routes… their monopoly on unique route pairs will be strengthened and they could actually… get worse because of it.
      Any airline can surely turn around, but it’s unlikely unless there’s a financial incentive to do so and I just don’t see it. Australian airfares are by FAR the most expensive on earth… and everyone hates the airlines lol. Thanks for watching 🩴

    QF has strange systems depending on routes.
    I am LT Gold and was based in HK and even on full Prem Y fares bid points to J on A380. Points only then and priority for high level members. Never happened but was downgraded once when aircraft change ensured deadheading staff received seats.
    CSM understood and was embaressed and put in report but never got the refund.Flown them since 1985 but now just use awards on other OW carriers. The retiring CEO made it profitable for shareholders and demoralised good staff who do try hard and deserve our thanks.
    I feel great they kept my money and made me change carriers and got high status on NH and CZ who treated me well, surprisingly an elite member in DLC where I worked really respected me as a frequent traveller

    You have got this group of CEOs out there today that are obsessed with densification of these aircraft. That's why they are so jam-packed like sardine cans. Hopefully the next CEOs to come around will realize this and make seating a little more civilized.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I think no such thing will ever happen haha. Especially as Qantas brings on their new A321XLRs and Sunrise aircraft/routes, I suspect they will go full “American” (country, not airline) and focus even more on profits as they will essentially own the market on a bevy of routes that only they operate. Standards will stay where they’re at at the moment and prices will continue to soar I reckon.

    They use the A330-200 from Brisbane to LA non stop, can’t imagine how people survive that long in such a cramped cabin. Qantas used to care about their customers but now it’s just about profits, I suppose they have shareholders to please and company execs salaries are probably tied to profits as well

    Qantas is recently before the Courts over selling dodgy tickets - flights that were already cancelled. A great safe airline ruined by corporate greed. They had a lot of near misses because of dodgy outsourcing too. The only saving grace is Qantas pilots are some of the best which is probably why there never has been a crash.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Every problem Qantas has at the moment stems from lack of competition in the AUS/NZ market. I agree with the points you said, but again- the only reason that greed was possible to grow in the first place was the fact that they were/are able to charge absolutely insane fares. Qantas is always hit and miss, in saying that as a platinum member who flies weekly.
    Just regarding the seat leg room, Qantas a330-200 aren't exactly "long hall" the a330-300 are much better. 200 series are used for mainly domestic services which NZ to Aus basically is.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'd originally assumed as well, but someone commented an hour ago that they took the very same aircraft to LAX recently and as luck would have it, that exact A330-200 is currently in the air from LAX to BNE. Also a regular visitor to DEL, SIN, HKG, CGK, MNL, etc.

    My feelings about this airline has generated 2 distinct camps on my channel and airline frequent flyer forums. I grew up in Singapore where I'm used to flying top tiered airlines to everywhere, and QF was only used as a very last resort if we had to fly from Changi to LHR or OZ. They have such a bad rep for us in Singapore they were even referred to as "that racist airline" for a while in the late 80s. Fast forward, I now live in Australia and QF and their frequent flyer program has become entrenched in my daily life. We have no choice in OZ, because QF is on top of the food chain here. Vote with our wallets, but to where? We are embarrassed at the state of this airline. And that boxed meal, what the hell? When it was introduced in 2014, the marketing spiel was cringe worthy because it said it allowed to the crew to interact more with passengers. Their sad state of business class offerings creates quite the polarised reaction from 2 opposing camps too. Sure they're the best Australia has to offer, but fall extremely short compared to international competition. So in a way, I'm glad your bid did not go through, it would've been a waste of money. My last few videos were about how I feel about QF and their current state of affairs. Most agreed, but a few vocal opposing voices reached out to me personally and gave me a dressing down. 🤦

      I think anyone expecting things to change for the better (from a customer standpoint) is just kidding themselves. There is no competition in Australia, Qantas will continue to do whatever it pleases for years to come. Actually, I'd argue once they have their A321XLRs and Project Sunrise routes, things will probably get 'worse' and significantly more expensive since they will truly be offering unique routes with zero competition.

      In fact, I can. If I couldn’t, I wouldn’t say it. My “best of the year” videos are my personal opinion. Everything else on the channel is based on the price I paid as compared to the competition, that’s it.
      At the end of the day, I couldn’t care less whether a flight or a hotel is fantastic or crap. Any given brand is just as likely to get a good score as they are to get a bad score. It’s a report and nothing more.

On our return, it was worse, the flight delayed by 7 hours, rude and racist staff, 12 hours of flying overnight in these cramped seats when I’m like 5’11 weighing 98kgs with not much space at all. The food was mediocre and my daughter hated the experience, never to fly Qantas again for our long haul experiences. The movie choice was limited for Bollywood, as you mentioned only 4. Their website let me book extra leg room seats for approx $250 but later denied as kids weren’t allowed on exit seats. Q: why let the passengers book in the first place when you are pax details? Nah!
