- India has been shaken by a wave of brutal lynchings in the name of the cow that do not seem to stop even after the Supreme Court weighed in asking the government to act. Why do these murders take place, again and again? One of the factors that convey to the lynch mobs a sense of impunity could be the absence of punishment. NDTV's Saurabh Shukla and cameraperson Ashwini Mehra went to the site of two widely-reported lynchings to find out more and on hidden camera the accused make shocking claims, proudly so, about their roles in brutal assaults, which proved fatal for Qasim Qureishi and Pehlu Khan.

It's really apalling to see people like sandeep singh and shantanu gupta defending mob lynching and that too when the accused are themselves admitting it on camera of having done it. I mean these people are so shameless they are trying to normalise the crime by saying it's just a law and order problem. Such people are actually destroying the social fabric of our country by supporting mob lynchers/rioters/criminals and thereby leading to violence and anarchy in the country. As lawyer Vrinda Grover said this hidden camera video can be accepted in court as evidence then I guess the court should take note of it and give death penalty to all the accused inorder to set an example for the rest of the country. Also Ms Grover very rightly said that if the govts of UP, Rajasthan, Haryana respect the SC order they should, after watching this programme, immediately sack their senior police officers for negligence in their investigation into these cases.

This is extremely sad. Law and order situation in India has become horrible and people are turning into complete monsters. No matter what religion one belongs to, how can u have a license to kill? These culprits should b hanged at once to giv a strong msg to public

Cattle smuggling and cattle theft has been a big issue in the villages for farmers and the poor. Unfortunately there is very little inclination of the police to solve these cases. Would they investigate if your pet dog was stolen or shot?
And cattle theft has been a major issue even before and since or father’s and grandfather’s time.
Should this justify violence. Not at all. But should theft be justified?
But both violence and theft get justified if remain unpunished.

Indians have a really really bad attitude surrounding cattle, especially cows. If you want to keep your cows safe, keep them in a farm instead of letting them roam around public roads and other people's properties. I see most of them clogging public road while they munch on garbage. I don't think these thugs considered cows holy. Cows are just an excuse to suppress and murder the helpless. Cows have become a justification for goons to go around their activities.
