It’s kinda hard to feel sorry for Zeon when the opening move is the gas a space colony and drop it on earth. Like I get the Federation is oppressive but you didn’t need to murder so many people for that.
Fun fact actually. If you look at some of the old numbers, Zeon and Spacenoids in general had MUCH higher civilian casualties. Most of humanity was living in the colonies by the outbreak of the One Year War.
@@fanusobscurus Fun fact theres literally only a couple lines that say that. Its also impossible since most of the colonies were actually either neutral or aligned with the federation. Zeon was really only side 3. Turns out gassing the residents of one and using to cause nuclear winter on the planet that makes mosty of your supplies and turning another into a debris field doesnt endear you to people.
@jtbush Depend on the side. If we see through those EF ground force before they had MS. They fought a death war and mostly massacre one-sidely by Zeon force. We see how desperate and struggle they fought while Zeon took the war like playing game and the place to gain honor and glory instead of war of independence. The main reason for Zeon to fear Gundam because they can't accept the reality that their supposed easy victory was snatched from them by EF MS. So they create fake image to run away from reality.
No the Federation has absolutely done some messed up shit, such as the creation of the EXAM system and HADES system which mentally reverted a full grown woman to a child. We also have groups such as the Black Dogs, Io's himself from Thunderbolt and the creation of the Titans. Earth Supremacists who gassed an innocent colony. They also broke the Antarctic Treaty by developing the GP0-2, an MS that uses nuclear weapons. While Zeon has done similar horrors and committed more crimes, it was mostly due to the twisted Zabi family. In the beginning Zeon had a noble goal, to be free. To have freedom and independence! It was just maliciously twisted by the Zabi family and only became. But even in the original Gundam series, we saw people who questioned and even talked back. We saw that Zeon itself is full of cracks and full of multiple individuals who don't agree with this war, but have to fight. Simply due to the fact they can't go home, they can't just quit. While it is gray. It's two forces who committed crimes, violated human rights, weaponized humanity's future and so on. Even after the OYW, Zeon became more. As individuals took command, all wanting a new future for humanity and ultimately Newtypes. Something the EFF recognized but never gave a damn about and even attempted to burn all records of Newtypes. The EFF has denied rights from people and has taken part in literally holding back humanity's development.

@jtbush Well, the federation in this show didn't really do anything _evil_ there weren't even any hard war crimes on display. Surprisingly, the only war crime in the whole show was by Zeon - dressing in the enemy's uniform. (Legal Notice: whether or not something is actually a war crimes depends on the applicable treaties and the authority of the international tribunal that goes case-by-case. With most regulations there are degrees as well as circumstances. Also, as with all international law, as we saw in our world repeatedly, a country may not recognize or discard the authority of a treaty or a tribunal. It's the same with Japanese soldiers in Asia...
I feel the same. I have a little more sympathy for the Remnant/Sleeves but anyone who can justify fighting for a regime that murdered billions, including spacenoids, deserves to get ganked by the horror gundam
What peeves me is that the Zeon troops didn’t check for explosives, they just assumed the base was safe after they routed the remaining Feddies; and right after they were just ambushed! Just throwing caution to the wind.
Revil after his capture at Loum noticed his captors had way too many higher ranks at too young an age. Its why Mqueve despite being only a Captain was Zeonic CO at Odessa. Too many of their experienced officer Corp are dead
The Zeon though very little of the Federation and never believe that they were as capable While they achieved their goals with stardust in 0083 , they gave the hard line elements an excuse to wage unrestricted warfare against spacenoids even by 0096, ECOAS was still tasked with black ops against Zeon forces
I love this particular depiction of the Gundam, for Zeon, this thing basically comes out of nowhere at first and there is not a thing at all any of them can do to stop this thing, we are so used to the green eyed, blocky version of it, that this particular depiction of it is more fitting to the "White Devil" title they give it, with freaking red eyes and actual beam weaponry that no other suits use, this thing comes out of the darkness and makes basically every attempt to stop it useless, there is a reason so many specialty and custom Zaku are made, because like this demonstrated, it made most MP suits obsolete immediately
They did a great job of making the gundam scary as fuck. I mean just look at the blood dripping from it's fist when it crushes the cockpit of the zaku. Fantastic.
Always nice seeing them depict how terrifying it is to actually face a gundam as a grunt, even if you're a special ish type of grunt. Just outmatched in every way and the only thing that can save you is outnumbering it and teamwork.
Caught a glimpse from Thunderbolt, but now do we see how terrifying a gundam is for these space fools. Heck, this is ain't even the one that's been dubbed White Devil.
"What the hell is that?" Says the Mobile Suit pilot in reference to a mobile suit. I love how the Gundam just stands there while the Zekes deploy their Zakus. Could have taken out two or three with that beam rifle before they even mounted up.
So did Zeon just forget to brief everyone about the Feddies new mobile suits? You'd think by this point everyone would be screaming "its a Gundam!" or something.
For most of the war, Type 61s, infantry and various aircraft fought Zeon's forces. While Zakus were feared, they could be ambushed and destroyed. Also zeon's failure to have air superiority hampered their campaigns. Hence why they fought to standstill. The gundam prototypes and GMs were late arrivals.
@@kyleabrezzi Yes I know. My point is that Amuro first fell into the cockpit in mid September. Originally yes, but 45 years worth of side material has added on a bunch. There were several RX-78 types built to test different weapon sets and gather data for EF MS development going forward. Some of the spare parts for the RX-78 series weren't quite up to spec, but they were still way beyond most of what Zeon had. So the EFSF (Space Force) handed the parts over to the EFGF (Ground Force), who assembled them into about 20 of what they called RX-79[G] Ground Gundams. Not as finely tuned as the RX-78 series, but still fine MS. The units that had these Gundams tended to to modify them in all sorts of ways, from different weapon load outs to testbeds for anti Newtype systems that would be the ancestors of the Unicorn Gundam's NT-D mode 17 years later. White Base and the RX-78-2 get most of the credit for the Gundam name because they were constantly being used by the EFSF admirals as big flashy scary diversions from actual military movements.

Confusion and Cockiness makes one hell of a combination to die miserably. I think the Zakus from the Salamander squad knew this and stood their ground enough to buy Solari some time.
@verdebusterAP it's later revealed that the pilot of the EX is some insanely intelligent cold calculating kid that's very good with games.
The technological advantage of the Gundam over the zakus plays a very big factor too. Also the redwolfs never seen something like this before played a factor in their demise too.
@@HaggisMonster
Come on now
when is the gundam pilot not a kid
As for the technological advantage
That Zaku was dumping everything into the EX shield yet it withstood whereas one shot from the beam rifle and that was all she wrote for the Zaku
Same with the beam saber
Zeon had beam weapons but never anything that could be used on the surface
they didnt get it that tech till after they captured a few GMs
I love how the EX here is being given the Godzilla treatment, not necessarily a force of nature but it sure as hell is a product of mankind. The shot here feels like how you would shot a Godzilla film.
Yessss this reminds me of godzilla minus one's godzilla
It feels like how humanity saw the first Nuclear bomb, that Beam projectile just tears through buildings after it destroyed a Zaku they supposed to capture, then it only use its beam saber to not destroy everything else.
The music is very Godzilla
Reference to Daimajin. The mecha genre is a descendent of the kaiju genre.
Daimajin was a giant statue that would become alive and destroy evil while weighting thousands of tons. Daimajin would then inspire the first piloted mecha in anime known as Mazinger Z, which inspired all other mecha shows that came after it.
The body language used by the earlier mobile suits and Mazinger Z are all references to Daimajin's body language

"How is it moving so fast?"
Char: That's funny
Also Char: *tries to stop the Gundam multiple times but failed every time*
its not even moving that fast for a gundam!!!! and already they quake with fear!!!
To be fair, Char was in space. This is in-atmosphere on the ground.
Doan: Huh.
To be fair, they’re in-atmosphere and under gravity. So, for a 60-ton hunk of metal to move like that, it has to seem like magic.
Say what you will about the show, but God is the Gundam a magnificent beast.
The wonders of Operation V by Tem Ray, father of Amuro.
Yeah. That's what you get for killing half of humanity. Pity some of them survived.
Zeon had the Earth Occupation Force to seize many territories and plunder resources so that they can send them to space to feed their war industry.
Yeah one of my main issues with uc is how they seem obsessed with trying to make it seem like the one year war was even and morally gray. Yeah no one side had significantly more civilain bodybags.
Remember...
We have Space Nazi as protagonist who think they're good guy.
And all of them died in 08Team.
@jtbush Depend on the side.
Neither side are particularly "good", only the protags and their little crews are.
@@itsgab5745 The thing is. EF likes many old dynastry about to be perished and new era/dynastry would replace its as always.
But Zabis infightging prolong the existance of corrupted EF even more.
And after One-year war. The very existance of Zeon becomes nothing more than the useful tool for EF to extend its ruling and rightful tyranical over entire human species.
Until the corrupted was so bad that some Gundam can't no longer fix the hole.
Just doing something mean is not a war crime by itself as, you know, it's a war and business as usual includes people killing each other. With most regulations there are degrees as well as circumstances. Also, as with all international law, as we saw in our world repeatedly, a country may not recognize or discard the authority of a treaty or a tribunal. With that in mind we can only comfortably call "war crimes" in media things that are breaking clear regulations and are done by informed choice)
Finally, some good frakking footage of Zekes getting slaughtered like the chumps they are.
Yeah back in the One Year War, Zeon tried everything to beat the Gundam with various mobile weapons but failed every time.
@@TheWarmachine375 I think one of the major issues they had is they tried to many things at the same time and kept trying to undercut each other's attempts. If they focused on one path and refined it, they could have beat the Gundam but nooo let not learn from what we have done and just try multiplied different things and still not learn ANY THING from the attempts.
@@judgedredd2039 Yeah, Mobile Suit Gundam 1979 did a deconstruction of the Monster of the Week formula where the antagonist faction build every new opponent to try take out the Gundam and it strained their resources and industrial capacity as a result.

At least 1 got GM headed after battle damage (Like Karin's)
1 got converted into RX-79[G]F Sliferail (Swamp special operations)
RX-79[G]SW and RX-79[G]WR Slave Wraith and Full Armor Slave Wraith

The downside in knowing just what the Zeon did during the One Year War was that I never felt sympathy for the characters despite this show making every effort at showing them as the good guys. I was rooting for the Gundam, honest.
As you shouldn't, people need to remember they are space nazi's. The "clean Wehrmacht" like irl is a myth...there were maybe a handful of Wehrmacht soldiers who didn't want to participate in war crimes and didn't believe in the cause, many many more did.
Completely canon Zeon incompetence yes
This is why they lost so badly. They went into an urban area in parade formation.
Revil after his capture at Loum noticed his captors had way too many higher ranks at too young an age. Its why Mqueve despite being only a Captain was Zeonic CO at Odessa. Too many of their experienced officer Corp are dead
@@silentghoust In other words, they did what the Russians did in Ukraine in 2022. With the same result.
The Zeon though very little of the Federation and never believe that they were as capable
While they achieved their goals with stardust in 0083 , they gave the hard line elements an excuse to wage unrestricted warfare against spacenoids
even by 0096, ECOAS was still tasked with black ops against Zeon forces
Finally Gundam as a monster (as seen by Zions)
Fantastic.
Get flushed Zion >:D
Always nice seeing them depict how terrifying it is to actually face a gundam as a grunt, even if you're a special ish type of grunt. Just outmatched in every way and the only thing that can save you is outnumbering it and teamwork.

"What the hell is that?" Says the Mobile Suit pilot in reference to a mobile suit. I love how the Gundam just stands there while the Zekes deploy their Zakus. Could have taken out two or three with that beam rifle before they even mounted up.
Nah, that kid wanted to style on those fools. Or else he could've just beam rifled the empty Zakus the second everything kicked off
Damn it's like the federation didn't have mobile suits before this or something
The film fully demonstrates the justice of the Earth Federation and Zeon's thorough brainwashing of the grassroots soldiers.😂
I find it so funny that the animation for people and their facial animations isn't the greatest. But the Gundam and Zaku? Top-notch
Fast forward a bit and the White Base has been cruising across the Earth itself since the start of October.

@@EthanKironus8067 There's a big positive and a big negative pushing that. The positive is that the One Year War was a huge battlefront across all Lagrange points and the entire surface of the Earth. There's a whole lot of room, literally and narratively, for all manner of test teams, secret squads, and just regular soldiers trying to make it to tomorrow. Everyone has a story to tell, as they say, and nearly all of humanity was fighting. So that's a lot of stories. The big negative pushing OYW stories is that Sunrise hasn't seen as much success as they'd like in their post OYW content, especially when it doesn't involve Zeon. Personally, I'd love to see a Crossbone Gundam anime, but that probably won't happen until AI video gets good enough for someone to make it themselves.
