We will have to see what happens. I know they want to open to tourists by May 14 but I don’t know if everything will be open by then. They say bars and clubs in July!! 😳🤞🏻
Very cool and illuminating vid. Such a vibrant city. Started coming in 2012 (family) but haven't been since 2019. Hoping to return this summer/fall and will definitely check some of this out. I'm a longtime aspiring Athenian so aiming for an extended stay. All the best.
Btw love the street art and graffiti if that wasn't already evident. The graffiti bothered me slightly when I first started coming, but has completely grown on me. Adds to the uniqueness and vividness of the city.
@@agirlandherpassport I have seen a few in Psyrri past the Little Kook. I always wonder when the artist has enough time to paint these. A lot of people think that most of the graffiti makes the neighborhood look shabby. I personally like it all!
It does! For most of them, they are working artists and are commissioned for these pieces. I know Ino is definitely getting commissions for many of these.
@@agirlandherpassport Exarxhia, it's close to the museum. The apartments are fairly cheap I've been watching your videos trying to get a better understanding of officially moving there so I don't make a lot of money
This was a nice video. But some of the areas looked a little sketchy, glad you stayed safe (we have them everywhere). It's sad that some of the nice art is destroyed with graffiti over it.
Thanks! They are fine usually. They also seem a little more sketchy because there is no one here so it’s very empty feeling. I know! I wish they would respect the others work.
@@agirlandherpassport hmm good question To get an idea see if you could vlog on a current video of the surrounding area of peristeri and make up your mind Hello tiffany
Do these "artists" get funding for the paint they use? If it's street art isn't it considered illegal? You'd think the police would be on these artists quickly to stop and/or arrest them.
The street artists are usually commissioned to do the large pieces so they are paid for their work. It’s not illegal if you are asked to do it. I think you are thinking of graffiti, which is illegal and Athens has tried to remove it but it come back quickly. Ino has done work for Coca-Cola even.
The majority of 'street art" are unemployed anachist and marxist gangs vandalizing the property of businesses and homes in the area. Exarchia is a breeding ground for drug dealers, arsonists, Marxist and anarchist terrorists.
The police didn’t dare enter Exarchia for years, it was a no-go zone for police. Now they occasionally do but it’s riot gear and their priorities are definitely not arresting street artists.

I’m of Greek heritage, and this is the one thing I absolutely HATED when I was in Athens. It makes this beautiful city look like a slum. And while art is in the eye of the beholder and these artists are obviously very talented, unless they are officially commissioned by Athens &/or Greek government officials, they are also vandals.
I disagree. Why would the government be responsible for private buildings? The owners of the buildings commission the pieces in many cases as well. You couldn't possibly paint the side of a building on the sly!
Not sure if you are saying this sarcastically but I laughed out loud. We don’t need Bansky! We have some amazing artists. Ino also makes political statements in many of his pieces.
No, it’s art. You might not like it but it is not a disgrace. Most of these artists have been commissioned by the building for this art. This is not random graffiti that has been put on under the cover of darkness.
Love the graffiti in Athens , even though they cleaned most of it in the last few years 😊
There is still tons to see in these areas. New stuff pops up all the time!

Exarcheia is my favorite neighborhood in Athens. We love staying there.
I'm glad to hear that! I like it a lot too. I kind of like its gritty feeling too.
Great pieces of urban art! Awesome 👍
They are pretty amazing!
I love street art, fantastic!!

Awesome video, thanks for sharing! 🙂 By the way, I saw the street in Psyrri where we're renting a place in November (near Ag. Anargiron St.).
Thanks! Oh nice.
Looks great
Thanks!
This video was actually super helpful for a project I'm doing for a college class. Do you by chance have the addresses of the places you visited?
I am so glad! Unfortunately, I don't. This website has some of them but I can't speak to the accuracy of it. www.greekstreetart.gr/mapofathens

Our first time vising Athens and this SEEMS like our vibe...but would you suggest staying here? Or is it better for a day trip?
Psyrri would be okay as it’s very central but can be loud at night. I would not recommend someone stay their first time in Athens in Exarchia.
I absolutely fell in love with that neighborhood. I was there in 2019. What do you think the chances are of living there and thinking about moving
