    Great photos Peter! I have the 20mm f/1.4 Pro and this helps me think about my own compositions using that lens. It shows that you don’t have to have total control to create unique images. It’s amazing how random people can appear out of nowhere and give you maybe not what you want but just what you need at that moment. Athens is great and I hope you get to visit more of Greece in the future.

    Good food for thought! Capturing images at special places, with other tourists everywhere, has frustrated me on occasion. Adapting to the moment, patience, planning ahead, and lightweight travel kit are helpful tips. Thanks!

    Fun and creative video Peter. I appreciaate all your many contributions to educate and entertain all of us. I enjoyed hearing your philosophy/perspective on taking the street art images and I've done the same thing during my travels. Like you, I find the images more interesting when you have people and/or objects within the frame, rather than just the art itself. It becomes more like an environmental portrait that combines many elements to create questions, intrigue, and something unique. Thanks again.

    Peter, I found some photos from my stay in Chicago in '99. Technically they are a crash. But MEMORIES they bring are crucial and that is the point in photography for me. Cheers !

    Like you Peter, I don't buy into the notion that I will lose many photo opportunities if I travel or walk around with just one prime lens. What I find is that, I tend to adjust my way of seeing and then adapting my photographic instincts and composition to adapt. I learnt photography using one film camera and a fixed lens (usually 40mm) many years ago, and I find that I can still easily revert to that style of taking photos. Hope you understand what I mean.

    Enjoyed the photos! I think what I like about street photography is the imperfection from catching a moment in time. 😊

    Hi Peter, seeing this video and listening to your comments reminds me of the walks we did in Lisbon, and the explanations of your tought constructing the image you gave me.
    By the way love that your Instagram mention of Lisbon in this video has my account appearing (52weeks52shots).
    All the best to you and your family my friend! Its always a pleasure to see and listen to your videos, please keep them coming!

      Yes it was in that Instagram photo! I had a good time in Lisbon. Big part was your company and guidance to great murals and graffiti.

      @@ForsgardPeter thank you Peter, it was a really good time and my pleasure. But I forget to show you the most beutiful murals in Lisbon (my favourite ones of course 😁😁😁😁). The ones in the entrance to Benfica stadium 😉😁, you need to come to Portugal once more when there is a Benfica game.
      All the best my friend!!

    Love the photos & thoughts behind them. I love my Olympus 12-45 f4 zoom for travel but I think one of the best travel photos I have ever taken was in Cuba with the lowly & wonderful Olympus 14 -150 lens. It really is only the image that matters

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that 12-45mm F4 is a good option. It is a bit more versatile than the 20mm F1.4 that I am used to using on my travels.

    To me street art seems to be art of and for the people which many can relate to ,particularly young people rather than e.g classical art , portraits etc .There is a difference between street art and vandalism which I guess all / most of us might object to. Street art can also brighten up areas otherwise devoid of colour and tell a story. Live and let live !! The OM5 is a great camera for travel and everyday use .Please don't knock it !! A thoughtful video Peter !

    I've taken a lot of photographs of street art. I took some of just the images but realised they were pointless and meaningless, so like you now include their environment or, better still, people interacting with them. One of my favourites is a group of people, obviously tourists, standing looking at the art. Another of my favourites is a human sized pink teddy bear with a woman walking past, also dressed in pink.
    Have you ever photographed in art galleries or museums? Again the same considerations apply - people looking at the exhibits can make for some interesting photos.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not photographed that much in the museums. I know that it would make equally interesting images with the same approach. Maybe I try that here in Helsinki.

    Hello Peter, I have two concerns I’d like to bring up with you: the first is to ask why you have gone on to the OM5 rather than sticking with the OM1 since it is a much better camera by definition. The second more important issue I want to bring up is what you called “street art“ which, by all intents and purposes is actually graffiti!!!
    You chose the crème de la crème of the graffiti in Athens to show, but 99.9% of it is abhorrent garbage without any art involved! The result is to present a city that is dirty. Graffiti artists assume to use a canvas that does not belong to them and they mess up the appearance of a city in dire need to look better. It has gotten so bad in Athens, that the locals have learned to ignore the graffiti that you pay attention to. You and the other tourists that come to visit Athens however take note and are presented a shameful side of a city proud of its ACTUAL history. I think you do a disfavor to present this graffiti as elegant and to showcase it as if it is something to come see in Athens, when in fact, most all of it is worthy of scorn, while there is a lot more and much more significant art to view instead!! I think it would’ve been much better for you to have photographed actual art rather than what amounts to a breaking of the law, by defacing buildings, and walls of the city, by someone with a few spray, cans, who thinks of himself as an artist! Lionizing them does not do Athens a favor!

      @allanc803 ปีที่แล้ว

      Street art and or graffiti are present in every city around the world in various forms, from early man living in caves to cities and towns of modern man. Some cities promote and some don't, it is always going to be there. To have a recording is entirely up to the photographer as it is also subjective.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry that you feel that way. The reason I did show the creme de la creme because I like it. It is magnificiant art and it is worth seeing. Especially murals by INO are worth seeing. The murals are commissioned by the city and some are commissioned by a company. One example was the Play Hotel mural. in my opinion murals make the city better. Art is good.
      Like always there is there is a downside to everything. I believe that the tags and graffities would be there anyways. It is just part of urban life and every city has some decay. Some more than others. I called it life.
      I did visit a lot of historical sites and museums. You are right the city is full of history. After all it is the birth place of democracy.
      What it comes to gear: OM-5 is slightly smaller, not much but slightly. I do not think my images would have been any better if I had a "better" camera. What does it mean when someone says a better camera? It is more about something else than the camera. If I had done a lot of night time photography or action shots, then OM-1 would have been a better choice. With my style, OM-5 is totally ok.

      @@ForsgardPeter thank you for your quick reply Peter. But I still disagree. Aside of a few examples of legitimately commissioned city art, including those you exhibited here, graffiti is not a positive addition to a cityscape. There's no real positive to that aspect. I have been living in Athens for the last decade and frankly I find it detestable to be walking around a very walkable city, surrounded by and looking at all the other ugly graffiti that you did not exhibit. There is nothing positive about those.
      It is a renunciation and a disrespect of private property and at least here in Greece it is done deliberately in that vein! While the government here makes an effort to focus those so-called artists to legitimate areas of the city, the vast majority of them deface monuments and grand buildings of the city and the city makes tremendous effort to protect them in what amounts to a losing game. Perhaps next time you visit you might allow me to take you on a tour and show you parts of the city that Athenians see more than tourists
      Several cities in the United States that had a serious problem with graffiti, were able to outlaw the sale of spray cans to minors and that had a profound effect on the defacing of those cities! European cities should find something equivalent to apply in their laws to bring the place back to respectability at least from the point of view of appearance!
      As for the OM5, I accept your point of view, but for the rest of us that do not get to buy every single camera around and are not professional photographers, while an owner of the OM1, I don't see why I would downgrade myself to the OM5 for the few advantages you state! I stick to and am proud to own and use the OM1. Thanks for the repartee!! :)

      I would be glad to meet you. I did wander around quite a bit. Especially Metaxourgeio which most likely is not popular among tourist. Some parts around Karaiski might be.
      In Finland spray paint is not sold to under 18. We still have some graffiti in certain areas. Then there is a whole neighbourhood in Helsinki dedicated to street art/urban art.

    • @nixl3518

      @@ForsgardPeter Well Greece is more of an anarchist's playground. People here do most anything they like without much regard to the consequences they have on others or the rules, which mostly are only advisory, very much in contrast to the "North". You have to live it, to believe it.
      Metaxourgeio is mostly a rundown part of town that is trying to gentrify with limited success. It is a sort of "in" place for the kids to go mix it up and perhaps hook up. Not sure what "Karaisky" might be, perhaps the stadium near the coast? But DT Athens is such a walkable city, living here makes a car an option, as its not really needed unless you want to live further out or travel beyond the extensive public transportation system.
      The tourist zones are mostly in downtown around the ancient sites. Then there are a few farther flung places that need wheels to reach such as Sounion, Delphi, Epidavros and a whole slew of others. If you like to meet next time you're down here, let me know. Not sure how we transit to a private conversation off of YT, but I';m sure you know how.
      BTW, I like your channel. It's been really helpful to me as I have been an Olympus fan since the old OM1 came out when I was a kid. I had most of the old models then went off OM with the digital revolution, came back with the DSLR 525 then lightly played with the EM1-M3 and now the learning the OM1. I still need a lot of work to make it part of me, cause I don't have many opportunities to run around taking pictures though this is an ideal location to do it. But to tell you the truth, I always have a zoom lens on mine (I have 3) so I can get the shots you don't have to risk your life over to get them! I don't need the fast lenses or shallow depth of field for my photography as its mainly deep citi-scapes and ancient ruins! Talk to you soon. :)
