  • In summer of 2016, Disney California Adventure opened two new-ish attractions - Frozen: Live At The Hyperion and Soarin' Around The World. In this vlog, Some Jerk With A Camera and a whole buncha friends (namely Doggans, R.L. King, The Wire, Luke Ski, Mikey Insanity, Ian Clarke, Tricksterbelle, Spazz Master, Matthew Iannone, Chris the Nerd and Rosenhacker) experience and discuss them both.
    DISCLAIMER: This video, like every video on this channel, is intended only for mature audiences. While the topic at hand is a form of media commonly associated with small children, the purpose of this video is to present a mixture of analysis and comedy about said media from a distinctly adult perspective, which may possibly include profane language and references to sex, drugs and/or violence. TH-cam, like many websites, collects personal data on its users. The Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has made it illegal to collect personal data on children younger than 13, and rather than fix their own algorithm, TH-cam is essentially threatening to pass the blame onto content creators whose work may seem "attractive" to children. For these reasons, the producers of this video feel compelled to state, in no uncertain terms, that if you allow a child under 13 years old to watch this TH-cam channel, you are a bad parent or guardian.

    Soarin at Shanghai Disneyland has you flying over the Bund - a riverside of huge extremely tall buildings. It's really a cool moment for Shanghai. They do something similar flying experience at Hong Kong's Iron Man attraction - with a brilliant flight over Hong Kong.

    I forget where, but I heard that apparently Disney does have the option to play the original Soarin' film at the mere push of a button, in the event that the new film gets a ton of backlash. Or if they wanted the potential option to give guests a choice of seeing the new film in one theater, or the old film in the other theater. It would be interesting, if true. I think having the choice to choose between the two versions could ideally be the best of both worlds. On the other hand, not sure if they would really do that, because they'd probably assume that the majority would want to watch the new film, which could cause an overly congested line for just one theater.

    Can I just say that I love the fact that your vlogs aren't just people saying shit into a camera for 20 min straight and then farted immediately out onto the internet? No offense to those who do that, but I just really like that you add jokes, editing and make a homebrew-ish episode out of pure improv and random jerking around (pun intended I guess) with your friends. You can feel the blood, sweat and tears put into every vid you produce and that's something to really admire.
    That said: surprised you guys didn't comment about how the Taj Mahal scene is 100% CGI. (Disney was not allowed to film over it, so they done made their own one on the computer)

    The closest I've been to a Frozen attraction was this bootleg Frozen slide ride at a carnival I went to yesterday. It was this tall curled slide with a staircase within the inside structure and you needed little wool(?) rafts for riding down it. It noticeably had the Frozen logo without mention of Disney and hideous 2D painted renditions of the 3D characters.

    The last time I've been on Soarin',(at Epcot), was a few weeks ago. When I went on it, Patrick called Soarin', "Soarin' Over California" in the pre show. This was only temporary. The film was the same, but with much better picture quality. Keep in mind, this was before "Around The World" was added. There was also one additional theatre built so the line moved a little bit faster.

    I do hope this troop comes out to Seattle to ride Wings over Washington. as a huge fan of Disney and Soarin' being a nostalgic memory for me, I say its better than the original Soarin' and this. because it has only one pod, no matter where you sit you won't see dangling feet, the video is 5K HD laser projected video, it's about a minute longer than Soarin', and has a real preshow where you SIT DOWN! if you go, try to sit in the back if you can (look up Dynamic Attractions Flying Theater so you understand) and look for the raccoon on the platform before you start flying. the only downsides are that it's expensive ($17+ tax per person) and there's no Patrick Warburton.

  • @HBarnill
    @HBarnill 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not that a lot of people would care but I do hate how the projection for Soarin in California is now laser instead of IMAX 70mm, which looks far better. At least it's still in Florida.
    And Disney, Tinker Bell doesn't need to be in everything. Just saying.

    I have a really funny story (well funny to me) about Soarin' around the world. Last summer my family went to Florida and we, of course, went to Walt Disney World now my mom is terrified of heights and I warned her about Soarin', I told her it was a flying simulator, but apparently she and my dad almost went on it when they were walking around EPCOT after lunch (my brother and I were probably at AK) and apparently they waited in a pretty short line (it was the middle of the week), and I don't know if the ride started to take off and she asked to be let off (idk if they would even allow that) or if she just took one look at the ride itself and walked out. She apparently thought it would be "like that Star Wars ride we rode at Disneyland!" I just kinda stared at her when she told me that.

    Maybe it's DCA's case but I don't care much about the new Soarin' as over at EPCOT it will always be a huge wait but i did rode the California version like three times but I did ride the new version, I prefer California because the new version puts way too much locations so when I enjoy one area out of nowhere it goes elsewhere and I have to familiarize my surroundings until it probably dissolves to another location. I didn't even smell the 3 new scents... I'd have to ride it again but Im happy with keeping Patrick.

    By the time I type this, next month Soarin' Over California will return to DCA...
    but for a limited time until June 30th.
    Now does that sound redundant?
    I approve the Around the World update and it does look amazing, but like you said Over California works for DCA and Around the World works for Epcot so with Disney announcing this yesterday why couldn't they make DCA's version return permeant?
    For the fans of the original in California, I would suggest Over California to stay at DCA but update it with better transitions like in Around the World.

    If the original Soarin' Over California is gone for good that does beg the question:
    Could the entire park be getting re-branded with a new name?
    The California theme is barely there now, especially with its last attraction with an overt California theme present no longer there. And, well "California Adventure" was always kind of a mouthful to say, and to a casual if you say "DCA" no one will know what you're talking about.

      It still is at Hollywood studios with a possible restaurant. It is classified as a new land called muppet courtyard. But then, why are they going out of their way to save muppet vision from Star Wars in Orlando but turn it into a movie preview that we can watch on our phones. It may come back like what happened with its tough to be a bug. I hope, muppet vision in one of my favorite rides in both park.

      +John G. Dunkerley Jerk, what do you think previews at the parks. I hate them because like shrek we can watch it on our phones and I like the rides that are replaced. I totally want to see a preview of a movie I will not see instead of a 3D film I really enjoy. Your thoughts?

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well...first of all, you CAN'T watch those park-exclusive previews on your phone because they always contain footage the studio hasn't otherwise released yet. Honestly, I'm of two minds about it - if it's a film I'm really looking forward to, watching new footage with in-studio effects IS pretty cool, and I'm sure it doesn't hurt the parks to get, say, Marvel fanatics visiting just to see exclusive footage from the newest MCU movie. And pragmatically, I understand that attractions like Muppet*Vision, Captain EO and It's Tough To Be A Bug REALLY don't get the kinds of crowds they used to, especially now that 3D has evolved from a theme park novelty to a multiplex novelty. But on the other hand...it reinforces the damnable idea that the parks are little more than billboard space for the studio, as opposed to art forms in and of themselves. Plus, I REALLY wish the west coast still had Muppet*Vision.

    • @Spiderman-wt8hb
      @Spiderman-wt8hb 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tony Goldmark yeah, I guess I didn't think the idea through, maybe because I love the muppets and muppet vision is one of my favorite rides at Disney. I know it will probably come back sooner or later, but it kinda hurts that the muppets are not being treated well as they should in the parks.

      I liked Maelstrom a lot and I was very sorry to see it go, but I realize that EPCOT needed a big new ride and Frozen fit the bill. Because its The Snow Queen in name alone. They really took a ton of ideas from Norway and the local Sami culture. Its not the Snow Queen, in fact the credits said its inspired by the story, which is about right. It has snow, and there is a character called the Snow Queen, that's about it.

      Crazy. I was staying in a hotel in Blackpool back in June, and BTTF 2 was on the TV, but I couldn't turn off the voice assistance. Weird, it was the only thing on TV like that.

    ...But time will tell, aka my defense for most of the decisions Disney is making in their parks. Including to myself in regards to pandora.

    If you are interested in rides with happy endings, you'd be better off somewhere else. In this ride, not only is there no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle. This is because not many happy things happened in the lives of those who filmed Soarin' Around the World.
