    Just bought the viper in 12x50 and to be brutally honest. I never saw much of a difference between them and the 12x50 razor HD. I think alot of the quality glass just above that diamondback price range has small jumps that don't have the necessity to have significant increases in price. But again. Thats my take on Viper VS Razor. Which I was in the market for both. Ended up very happy with the Viper glass.
    That being said great video

      @@Garga145 you can save some extra cash for other cool gadgets or whatever you need for your style of hunting, I think a lot of people get caught up on “flagship” when in reality, there is a great value without compromising excellent performance in the viper.
      I realized I made this comment about two years ago, and I still stand by the fact that after spending close to 300 days in the woods between both years since buying these binoculars, I am 100% certain that I can glass much better than some people that I’ve hunted with that carry Swaro, Leica or even razor glass. (Brutally honest)

    I just upgraded from the viper 10x42 to the Razor 12x50, somewhat after last years videos that Brady kept talking about loving the 12x50. I am so happy I switched, and looking forward to this years seasons.

    Cody is awesome! He probably spent an hr with me on the phone earlier this year discussing different options as I was finally preparing to make the leap to a "higher end" set of binos. I previously had diamondbacks and had a budget of roughly $1500, but was flexible with that to a degree. Ended up with 10x42 Razor UHD and have been very pleased.

    Had the opportunity to use my 12X50 UHDs in the Rockies for archery elk and got to compare it to my hunting buddy's Viper HD 12X50 and 10X42. First thing is the UHDs are quite a bit bigger. I didn't notice the size or weight being a problem when freehand glassing and honestly used a trekking pole to balance my binos on when we were sitting for any length of time. The size of the bino harness was quite large on my 5ft 7 frame, but it didn't get in the way of my pack or being able to come to full draw. When comparing to the Viper HD 12X50s, they are very close in clarity when dialed in but the real test was the UHDs had way better color contrast which made a night and day difference when glassing timber from a mile out. They were also much more comfortable to glass with for long periods. I was able to comfortable glass in 15 - 20 minute increments, while my buddies lasted 5 - 10 minutes. As we approached last light I was able to glass to the bitter end and was able to spot a nice bull moose, while the Viper HDs were both put away due to it being too dark for them. I was able to get my UHDs for just under 1,200 USD and while I'm sure Swaros are better, at half the price i was thrilled with how they performed for me.

    Just picked up the vipers after looking at through/at all 4. I personally, couldn’t see the much of a difference between the vipers and the razors. I could some a little difference but not enough to spend another $500+ . I’m a 1 or 2 hunt a year guy so for me, wasn’t worth it from that end of things either. If I was out in the field more often, I may justify spending another $500+ to get either of the razors. Maybe one day I’ll make the jump but as a newer hunter the vipers are perfect! Paired with a sirui tri pod/va5 head, I’m set. Out of AZ btw.

    Compare 12x50 on a tripod vs a spotting scope at 20x. I never had anyone pick the spotting scope. The “effective aperture” you gain from two lenses let’s you see more and you would swear that the 12x have greater magnification then advertised

    • @bmills231
      @bmills231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm always reading about dudes crapping on Vortex for being "glad they have the warranty, because you'll need it". I've never understood that unless they're bitching about the ability to warranty something they destroy themselves. I have put my diamondbacks through the ringer with not the slightest indication or feeling something was going to fail. Upgraded this year to the Razor UHD and have been more than pleased. I'm sure other companies have similar warranties at this point, people can likely thank Vortex for that. Very few companies openly advertise a no question asked arrange that's transferable. Again, if they do, it's likely because Vortex has been doing it forever.

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I had to choose a combination for going out West, I'd choose the the Razor HD 10x42s or 10x50s and mount to a tripod. I would prefer the better glass for the longer distance glassing. Learning to use a bino/tripod combo can be very efficient use of your time glassing. Not saying a Viper/spotter combo won't work but I use the bino mainly for validating objects seen or counting points/inches but use the binos for searching. Much easier on the eyes this way! Eye fatigue can be very distracting. Investing in better glassing in investing in your eyes! If you have other questions please feel free to reach out. Thank you!

    I live about 35 minutes from Vortex HQ and decided to take a look (pun intended) at this same comparison. For the money itself, the viper HD’s are an excellent product. It’s very close to the regular razor HD’s.
    Now, if coin wasn’t an issue and you for sure wanted a vortex product, the UHD razor line is definitely worth it. Here’s the kicker: I brought with me my brand new Sig Sauer Zulu 9 binoculars, 11x45 to compare all these vortex’s against. The Sig’s use the same exact AK prisms that the razor UHD has.
    I had a gentleman from vortex with me while I did all of this. At the end, I had him look through my sig’s and then their UHD razor 12x50. If I’m lying, I’m dying. This employee of over 20 years at vortex (before it was even called vortex), and he was extremely knowledgeable by the way, said the sig sauer and the razor UHD have the same color & light spectrum, same glass. He couldn’t tell a difference.
    I didn’t tell him until after he gave me his verdict that the sig’s and the razor UHD have the same AK prisms, to which he replied that he could tell and was impressed with the Sig’s.
    What do the sig Sauer Zulu 9 cost? About $200-500 less than the vortex depending on where you find them (I got mine on eBay). I’m not knocking vortex in the slightest, so I was very surprised with how good my sig sauer’s were compared to the razor UHD line. I only wish that they were 12x50 and not 11x45 but that’s okay.
    That all being said, I think my next pair will be the 12x50 razor UHD. The Sig’s worst thing is the crappy objective lens covers that are bound to fall off so I have mine in a chest pouch for that reason. Sig sauer has the same warranty on their binoculars and scopes as vortex, but vortex was one of the first to offer an unconditional lifetime warranty.
