    Very well done tutorial! Everything demonstrated was thoroughly explained, and I like how different ways of doing the same thing are shown. Otherwise, someone might use the same method all the time, when there are instances where another method might be a better option. Love your tutorials, they're way too easy to understand. Could you make a tutorial to improve fps on viewport animations? I got this problem that plays animations at 2 fps and is kinda difficult to see how is it going

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks for the tutorial idea. one thing that you could do to improve the FPS, is to turn off the object modifiers in the viewport, if you have any modifiers on your objects, like subsurf, or bevel. if you turn it off in the viewport, then you won't be able to see the modifiers, but they will still take effect when you render the animation.

I just received my first Maya "Engineering" file of a vehicle for a client, and I've never had to organize soooo many meshes and materials before (prepping for car rigging) and this was a huge help!! Any other tips you can offer on optimizing a mesh in my case? Even on a RTX4090 this 7GB FBX file from the manufacturer is HEAVY. lol I'm trying to learn more about mesh optimization for making this engineering model into a media-ready asset. I primarily do previs and concept art- so this is a first for managing HUGE meshes like this. THANKS again!

    Hi! What's the easiest way to turn slots off/on without losing configuration? Example: A cube with the object's default color. One color for the top face. Another color for the top and side faces. Sometimes I will turn on the first color, sometimes only the second. I understand that I can change all slots to the same color and according to the index, choose other colors. The problem is that slots don't have names! I would have to remember that index 1 is the top and index 2 is the top and side. Is there an easier way to manage this? An ugly way would be to offset in the color name "top - red". So I would be careful to change it to another "top" color. But it's bad.

    Nice tutorial. I never realized material managing in Blender was so cumbersome. Comparing with C4D for example, you always have the full list of all materials in file viewable, you can just drag and drop materials onto objects or onto the Outliner, so you can always see what object has what. You can also easily assign materials to face selections and you can update this selection anytime...
    Trying to learn Blender these past days and I gotta say I am already a little bit disappointed.

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh, so you think Cinema 4D does a better job with its material management? I've never tried Cinema 4D.

    • @shynnsup8383
      @shynnsup8383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RyanKingArt Yup, I think so. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary clicking in Blender: For instance just to see all materials in a file it seems you need to: get into material tab> click drop down to see al materials. In C4D you don't click anything because the tab is always displayed.
      It think overall it is a bit more fluid and flexible than Blender.
      To assign you can just drop the material onto the object or onto the cinema's 'outliner'. You can even duplicate materials from the outliner, with ctrl + drag the material icon. And to assign to a face you can select the face and drop the material. I tried it in Blender but it says 'not supported in Edit Mode'... sad :(

    • @JaimeGarcia-hq7kx

    Having use a few 3D modeling programs over the decades I can say without a doubt that the way Blender handles materials is the number 1 worst I've ever come across. It is convoluted and prone to errors and for the user a complete shambles that is difficult to understand - a bit like a German user manual for an old video recorder I once came across. Basically users are stuck with what is the equivalent to the Dodo.
