    • @PaintSociety

    Great videoes @paintsociety . I've watching a lot of them before I decided to buy a Iwata LPH-80 E4 wide fan and attempt to repair some adamage on my car with black metallic paint. I noticed when test painting some parts off the car and comparing color that the metallic flakes are not coming out the same way when I paint it. It almost look like the original paint has way more of them or that they are not visible in the same way. Is there any trick to get the metallic more "visible"?

  • @RGD-Games
    @RGD-Games 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is different types of reducer really that important?
    Just curious.
    Because i repainted my ford focus in moondust silver, using Fast reducers, and had absolutely no issue with Mottling/zebra striping..
    i just made sure to keep my paint overlaps at around 80%, to be sure to have a good full wet 2nd coat, and the metallics laid down flawlessly...
    I did air dry though, No heated booth etc..
    So perhaps that pays a important role in it...

    • @PaintSociety
      @PaintSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to blending yes it is very important. Also if the temp is below 70 degrees then it doesn’t matter as much.

    I guess I shouldn't be too upset with the shitty results I get when using Dupli-Color brand products compared to the pro quality products you use! For the small areas(about 1 square foot total) that I'm trying to do, it's simply too cost prohibitive to DIY with any decent quality products/materials. I might as well have a shop do it. Which is the whole point, isn't it? Can't have DIYers doing their own simple repairs cost effectively, now can we? At least your videos are free. And yet have much valuable information and insights on the process(es)! And for that, I'm grateful and thankful!

    Hey Brian Chris from Jerry Grays A/B here...been awhile big guy...I’ve just been slammed...hey listen man as alway very in depth to the letter of how why and when we do certain operations in our environment...I always head down a 4hr rabbit hole when I start catching up on your videos...lol...so I’ll get to it and I already know why but do you think you could make a video explaining zone painting and some of the reasons we use that method vs the monetary reasons of why we can’t use that method all the time...bc I’m sure that you or I and gunny or Gabriel can agree wholeheartedly that almost all instances is a better repair method when working w some of these colors that we get hit with on a daily basis...sure could we fly by the seat of our pants and get through it...absolutely...but your job in this video requires way more in depth preparation and setup to make sure all bases are covered bc they(general public) have no idea how bad these colors can turn on you in an instant and for some of us especially the guys that gotta go so fast they’re wearing roller blades they can’t risk it so the “zone paint “ the side and wave goodbye rather than spend the amount of time like you and keep it tight...and there’s is no wrong way I was just hoping you could explain why us “crazy painters” wanna paint cars a certain way...why our bosses may or may not let us...and how and what it take a to be sure that whichever method we use the job is going to turnout beautiful...just a novel of a thought there pal...thanks man

    • @chrisgray2956
      @chrisgray2956 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So first let me say this for your fans first there is no “right way” to spray this particular job but there’s a lot of wrong ways to spray it and Brian’s is one of the absolute RIGHT ways....extra preparation and color matching and shading are imperative before you even get that job inside the booth bc the last thing anyone wants is a $3k spray out card and a redo just to maybe break even...you kiss any profit away the second a redo comes up...that being said ...w how complex these colors can be and while having a repair on the front and a blend to the rear we can all agree that one wrong move with that spraygun and the drift is pretty much changing the color of the whole panel...in my area what maybe 20% of the shops would would say the left fender is a 50/50 shot of failure and if we’re doing fender,door,rear door.With still a potential mismatch on the hinge pillar to the fender....Why not just scuff the whole side when they are as normal and clear the whole thing may even be a little bit faster due to the fact so you don’t have to be as precise while prepping just a thought but it speaks volumes for the way that you did it...successfully.. because we all know sometimes money is the only thing that matters sometimes even if the owner has an $80,000...once again I think that your patience and experience has paid off as it And sometimes turn into a major disaster two thanks for the video and keep them coming

    • @PaintSociety
      @PaintSociety  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is close enough I’ll take it in another panel. I was confident in the color on this one coupled with the dv1 which only sprays at 14 psi so far less overspray travels and lands future then you want.
      Usually though if it’s a tough color I’ll take it further.

    Do you always wear gloves? It looks very professional and i understand why you do it but my hands almost immediately start sweating and causes discomfort and prep problems.

      Always wear nitrile gloves. Paint and especially thinners/ reducers are absorbed in the blood stream through your skin.

    9 out of 10 painters would’ve back taped those panels. The way he did it prob allows the clear to reach around the edge better and prevents build up on the tape. Takes a bit longer but better results.

      We usually remove them but we have trim tape by 3M that took the rubber seal up really nice and allowed for paint to get under the molding.
