This commentary is correct. The anti-Christ is a spirit, primarily Satan, and in general terms, anyone who denies Christ. It is refreshing to see a commentary on the internet which doesn't declare anti-Christ to be some coming human being, which is just plain silly, and is mainly the idea of American 'theologians'. The only correction I would make to the commentary is to say that those John was speaking about in his epistle "who went out from us", were not the Jews who abandoned Jesus, but those who were part of the fellowship of believers - part of the NT church - who departed from the faith, whether Jew or Gentile. So Paul: _"Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
