I want to point out his Big Punch neutral-special, if my memory serves me, is referenced in Super Mario Sluggers on the Wii.
Good call! I think he definitely does use the move in a bunch of games, but none that pre-date the original Smash Bros. (at least that I can think of). Thanks for checking out the vid!

I disagree with that explanation. I think the cargo throw animation was updated to look like the Barrel Grab of DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze.

DK only needs punches to fight in Smash
DK's newer single arm over the shoulder carry is actually also based on real gorillas. That's how real gorillas carry large things.
