    Man... this is touching. Prior to taking Neuroscience as a course in college, I had no idea about this disease. I ended up choosing ALS as a topic and doing research on it, and my mind was blown. You are worth it, Anthony Carbajal (and those with ALS). You are worth the research. You are worth the donation. You are worth the cure. Stay strong.

      Consider donating to the cause if you haven't already! Prayers are good, but I'm sure he would much rather have a bunch of people donating money than a bunch of people praying.

    • @3vynjh
      @3vynjh 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      ***** sure, because prayer gave us all the vaccines that exist today that cure millions of people and prevent countless diseases
      Yes, I'm pretty sure millions of people suffering around the world,whether it be from disease, poverty, oppression, war, tyranny, and of the like would prefer prayer over money that can actually help them. Prayer does not provide clean water and food to starving nations in Africa, money does.
      Prayer is like a facebook like on a post about starving children. It feels good, and you have the best of intentions and support for the cause, but that facebook like will do absolutely nothing, just like your prayer.
      Prayer is appreciated, but do something that might actually make a difference and actually donate to a good cause.

    • @3vynjh
      @3vynjh 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Every prayer is useless, well it's helpful in boosting morale and hope, but other than that, useless.. I have some extremely religious friends, definitely more religious than me, and I can tell you they 100% believe what they pray will work. Good people, yet whatever they pray for doesn't get answered.
      A friend prayed for his cat to live after being attacked by a dog...it dies.
      Another prayed her baby would turn out fine after a sickness she had...that baby later died in the womb.
      The worst was a friend who told me everyday that he prayed for her mother to get better (several heart diseases) and she later passed away.
      So your telling me if I pray, it might, maybe make food and clean water magically appear for needy families in africa.
      No, that's never going to happen, only through real action by volunteering and donating to organizations that directly tackle these problems are things going to get better. If everyone simply prayed and "believed" in their prayers and did nothing else, the world would be chaos and nothing helpful would ever get done.

    Dear Anthony,
    My name is Sarah. I am 11 years old. Though I am young, I understand how bad this disease is. My aunt is currently suffering from ALS. I am crying as I write this letter to you. My aunt recently got pnemounia and is now in hospital. She cannot breath right, she cannot mobilize herself, and she had to get a feeding tube. She has an 8 month old and a 4 year old. And I thank god for you everyday. You have kept me happy and optimistic and have helped me feel noticed and understood. You can read her story here: www.gofundme.com/leahbardin I will not ask for a donation from you, because I know you need the money yourself. I truly thank you. I love you like a father Anthony, because you are my guardian angel in this time of trauma.
    Praying always,
    Sarah

      Bullseye! Your right, the pharmaceutical companies do only what they know is profitable and nothing more. It is terrifying to think about, we go to the doctor to get medications that " help"us which isn't comforting seeing that money is the motivation. Thre government sais that we will have a vaccine for coronavirus in under a year, how can that be 100 percent guaranteed when there are so many illnesses out there that cannot be helped. If they came up with a cure for aids, Al's, cdifi and many others, I believe that they know the information or could come up with something, sadly if that were the case then they wouldn't be making the fortune they receive by families who are living a nightmare. The more sick you are, the more dollar signs they see. We are always saying and hoping that there will be cures in the future, in my opinion I do not believe that they ever intended for it through the years or the near future. God bless you for sharing your story, it couldn't of been easy and you have impacted many many lives including me!Thank You

    I think this I've bucket challenge worked. If people would make a video saying to donate personally I wouldn't even care to research about this sickness. Since a lot of people are doing this I was interested in researching about ALS. It's annoying that people all of a sudden are talking about the water. Why aren't people complaining when they see kids playing with water in the park, people washing their car, or taking showers every single day?

    I don't hate the ice bucket challenge, I hate most of the people doing it because 90% of the people just dump a bucket of water over their head and nominate other people to do the same WITHOUT ever mentioning they are doing this to raise awareness for ALS, they're just doing it because it's a popular thing to do and they wanna hop on the bandwagon to get people's attention. Don't get me wrong, some people are doing it right by either talking about ALS in the video or at least put a link to ALS research in the video description but there are way too many people just doing it cause it's just because 'everyone else is doing it'.

    I just really hope people actually understand what the disease is and what the ALS foundation does, because I'm really getting the vibe on Facebook and such that people just dump ice on their head for fun because they can make their friends do it by challenging them, and not really recognizing why they're doing it.

    vídeo de los que se quejan por la cubeta de agua,,, y no logran ver que es por una gran causa...

    • @RICKY_LUIS
      @RICKY_LUIS 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No es que se "quejen" del agua, sino que así como en el video muchas personas sufren terriblemente pero por falta de agua. Imagínate no ducharte por 4 días después de trabajar intensamente... El reto se puede realizar pero forzosamente con agua??

    • @arielgiron8518
      @arielgiron8518 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Para los que no entienden el reto es el siguiente!!
      Te reto a que dones $100 dolares o que te heches una cubeta de agua?
      O donas o te hechas agua no las dos!! Otro punto importante es aquellas personas que hacen las dos cosas pero al mismo tiempo hacen conciencia que es por una buena causa no por aparentar, imitar o ser payaso!

    • @GilbertoBrewer
      @GilbertoBrewer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luis Neri La idea de hacerlo con agua helada es para crear empatía, pues dicen que dicha enfermedad se siente como un cubetazo de agua helada. Y sé que suena cruel, pero el no tirar un bote de agua aquí no implica que vaya a haber más agua en donde escasea. Además, el echarse el bote de agua encima y grabarlo es lo que ha provocado que se vuelva tan viral y muchísimas personas más conozcan la enfermedad, pues llama la atención, lo que no hubiera pasado con sólo donar y pedirle a otras personas que donen.

    • @tediz77
      @tediz77 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me da verguenza escuchar esto, quieren decir que no se puede dar caridad sin mostrarse en youtube echándose una cubeta de agua con hielos?

    • @GilbertoBrewer
      @GilbertoBrewer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lo que se quiere decir es que gracias a un hecho tan "ridículo" (como enfáticamente lo mencionan algunas personas), que es el echarse la cubeta de agua con hielo, se ha logrado lo que no se había podido hacer en tantos años, que es llamar la atención de millones de personas hacia la enfermedad. Inclusive aquellas personas que lo hacen sólo por moda están apoyando sin darse cuenta a lo que esta organización está haciendo: dan a conocer a muchas personas más esta enfermedad y por consiguiente, han logrado recaudar mucho más de lo que han recaudado en muchos años para investigaciones sobre alguna cura o tratamiento de dicha enfermedad.

      ALS is a disease which cause whoever has it to slowly losing control of their body
      for example: first, your arms will start to numb and it gets really hard for you to even do simple daily thing like tying your shoelace, putting on jeans,... and eventually, you can't use your arms anymore along
      the ice water gives you few seconds of what it feels like to have the disease eating away inside of those who have it

      That was 2012. In 2013 they donated ~27% to research. Believe or not, it costs money to run nonprofits. The Red Cross among other nonprofits have to do the same thing.

      Fucking insane idiots. Saying 'I will pray for you' doesn't help shit, DONATING does. It's no fucking different if I said 'I wish for money from Santa Claus to help you'. Neither helps at all, in fact it's quite rude to talk about fairytales regarding this issue.
      Do you think a person with ALS would really believe in god...? *sigh*

    • @ThiVids
      @ThiVids 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seriously. the "praying to God, wishing presents from Santa Claus" bullshit thing should be so obvious. It's rude to tell someone that they shouldn't pray if the person wanted to(which no one did in this thread), but it's SOO MUCH more rude to say praying is gonna do jack squat.

    • @Doisne15
      @Doisne15 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ofcourse you should donate. But whats WRONG with praying to God? If he wants to let him. Everybody should respect every others faith, why shouldn't we? It's NOT a disgrace to talk about "non exstisting things" whatever you want to call it, religion for you may be like a "dick" but they are proud of it and not afraid to show it. I can totally understand why they believe in God but heyy I actually read the bible. Still I don't care what he thinks or believes in thats his business. And if they bring it in to public why not? In his faith it is important to pray, so that only explains he wants to help. That's not a disgrace for me. You guys who says this shit should just not care and go on with your lives, but you stopped and had to comment its useless etc, but not looking at his prespective of it. Just lost a bit of faith in humanity, I thought we needed to respect each other whatever we are and believe in?

    • @Kinjutsuu
      @Kinjutsuu 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doisne15 Look, only dazzled religious idiots don't realise how cruel that is to say, to someone who might not be religious.
      If I walked by a man dying on the street and said "yo, I pray for god to give you some CPR" instead of actually helping him myself, what a bad person would I fucking be ?!?
      Since you've read the bible, then please tell me which of these things is NOT in the bible:
      Leviathan ?
      Dragon ?
      Cherub ?
      Satyr ?
      Cockatrice ?
      Satan ?
      Giant ?
      Behemoth ?
      Dinosaur ?
      Demon ?
      Talking snake ?
      Angel ?
      7 headed beast ?
      Witch ?
      Unicorn ?

    • @Doisne15
      @Doisne15 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you think yeah :/ but it's still rude to tell someone it doesn't help its frustrating and annoying. It's really a matter of opinion though. But ofcourse you shouldn't only pray you need to take action aswell by donating.
      And kinjutsuu that really doesn't make any sense. I wasn't even telling that you shouldn't help. If someone needs cpr you DO need to help. That is what even God tells you to do. That is what is happening these days people have a prejudice about christians all the time. We really DO NOT pray only. And especially I'm not like these people that come to your door do you have time for God etc. I'm not gonna force any one into it. Thats why I wanted to keep this clean and not an opinion based on "God". And I'm still going to do that. But really not all christians are like that, that everyone can be saved by praying thats not true. Sorry what you said at the end of your message what does that even prove?

      I could pour 10000L of water and it wouldn't change much... Read something about water circulation... The only way to waste water is to spill water in regions seriously poor in water sources or if you're in a region that is rich in water then the only way to waste water is to freaking shoot it to outerspace... Besides average person in US and Europe uses about 130 liters of water EVERY FREAKING DAY. You're taking shower every day? You are wasting water. You are flushing the shit everytime? You are wasting water....

    I'm not a hater i just don't undetstand...
    majority of people didn't know about ALS until this stupid challenge came and what gets me mad is if people really cared they will just donate to the ALS research program and don't tell me that it's fun cause their isn't fun about dumping a bucket of ice cold water on yourself...

    • @vazzmatazz

      If people hadn't done this, it wouldn't become viral, meaning people wouldn't be aware of the disease, meaning people wouldn't donate to the ALS research program. If they would do a video with them only saying "ALS is bad, donate please" many people wouldn't give a f*** because it's not fun to watch. This was a good way and I'm glad this is viral.

    • @jennifergreen1981
      @jennifergreen1981 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't know if you have ever solicited anyone for anything...but the door to door thing is horrible....slams and nos are what is often heard and can be very impacting especially if the one doing the soliciting is young (my daughter). I thought this is an interesting way to A) collect money without knocking on doors or cold calling people B) Intrigues some people about a disease that goes unnoticed unless it directly affects your life...C) "Tough" people call out their friends to do it and it becomes a bit competitive and I'm sure ALS is not worried about that as they have seen like 15 million dollars more so far than previous years D) people are doing something fun for a cause...like a walkathon, or 5k run...something attention grabbing...and by calling out 5 people each time you do it causes it to spread so quickly hundreds of thousands of new donors are giving to something that no one knew to care about.

    • @AndyPurdz
      @AndyPurdz 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course having a bucket of ice water dumped over yourself isn't fun. It's a challenge that will entertain people watching and is fun for the bystander. Therefore while they are entertained by your misfortune you are able to appeal to their senses and get a great impact accross to them. Therefore doing things that come across as painful or silly in order to raise awareness for a cause is a brilliant way to raise awareness and funds. If the ice bucket challenge hadn't happened, the astounding amount of money that has been given, would still be in the pockets of the millions of people who have donated thus far.

    • @Charles-_-
      @Charles-_- 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well now you know what ALS is about if it takes ice water to enlighten people's awareness then it's an effective strategy. Drug companies should be the target to find the chemicals to stop the disease process. As citizens, we shouldn't have to raise awareness especially in a developed country. It's the responsibility of drug manufactures and the medical community to find the cures. We shouldn't allow Pfizer to have record profits and still have known diseases that are killing people everyday. That's the tragedy in all of this "awareness".

      Sending water is one of the most stupid ideas. It's extremely expensive to ship or fly water in a region with need. It is way better to drill a hole and build a water well. The only reason water get's shipped is, when some kind of tsunami or storm happened and the water there is contamined

    • @Uligos
      @Uligos 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jesse McEwen The buckets are equivalent to 1 minute of a shower if you think it is that much. If you take 10 minute showers, you can put that on perspective. Unlike the shower water which is filled with a shitton of chemicals, the ice bucket water does go to the soil clean and probably a good amount of it is recycled.
      I honestly hope you do not ever have ALS neither anyone in your family, but if it did, you'd probably be not thinking this is a waste of water.

      Gabriel Gaitán Talk is cheap. Sure, you could go take a jump off of the Titanic for all the good it will do. While you're at it, you could go for a swim in Lake Vostok (Antarctica). OR, you could make realistic goals, that would actually be of some kind of purpose, and then go ahead and DO them. I don't know if you're up to date with your history, but I don't think you'll be "jumping off the Titanic" any time soon

    Anthony, Your video touched me in so many ways. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 2 years ago, and even though our life expectancy is longer, we share so many of the same symptoms. In your video, you mentioned your hands are atrophying. Since my diagnosis of MS, my right hand is already atrophied and my right leg is pretty much paralyzed. I use an electrical stimulation device on my leg to lift my foot. Multiple sclerosis is slowly taking away my ability. I can hardly walk. I hate these two diseases so much! We need a cure. Even though those with multiple sclerosis have treatment options , it only delays the progression, but the disease is not stopped. WE NEED A CURE!!! Hang in there. Fight! Rely on your faith. We are going through this because we are strong enough to handle it. I'm all for stem cell therapy. Those who oppose are not in the situations we or our loved ones are in. Call me selfish, but I want to live!
