I don't care what anyone says, Chuck Berry was the rock n roll poet. He not only revolutionized the guitar riff, but he also wrote fantastic lyrics. His lyrics made sense and yet were still fun.
I saw him in Lake Tahoe a 'few' years ago. I've seen most of the great old acts, and knew that he couldn't have much longer to perform He still did his famous duck walk, but not as far as before. I'm real glad that I saw him while he was still around. It was a great show.
When that hound broke down, was a big story. They could never let a poor boy down! Chuck employed many people, and I’m so appreciative of those who uploaded this song. The funk needs to jump outta his soul when he hold that guitar. His musical style and influence across rock & roll can never be forgotten, or minimized. He has influenced and taught every iconic guitarist & the great one’s list his imprint as their best inspiration! Thanks Chuck! Long live rock and roll!
I don't think he's singing about what you think he is. Chuck's lyrics are all about the Freedom Riders in the South in the early 60s. They attempted to integrate public transportation by riding in the front of public buses and trains. The "hound" breaking down was his metaphor for the Greyhound that some Freedom Riders were riding near Anniston, Alabama when it was pulled aver by state police to get the Freedom Riders off. After doing so, some Klansmen torched the bus right on the side of the road. He makes many more references in the song about other events of the Civil Rights struggle.
Love Chuck and his brilliant guitar riffs. He was a great writer and showman and also love Elvis's cover, he was an amazing singer, interpreter, and performer. I listen to both!
Yes, I agree, good comment. While no denying the greatness of Elvis, I kinda think Chuck is really the king of Rock n' Roll. After all, Chuck was really the one who influenced bands like the Beatles and the Stones, and I think Johnny Rivers made a career on doing Chuck songs.

I saw Chuck Berry live along with Little Richard on May 20th 1995 in Birmingham UK. They were completely awesome. It was my life`s ambition to see them as they were my musical heroes when I was growing up. Their music was always playing in our house. Unfortunately Fats Domino was taken ill that night, but was also on the bill, so the true professionals they are, Chuck Berry and Little Richard performed most of Fats`s hits. I`ll remember the gig for the rest of my life! Hail Hail Rock n Roll!!!

This was a lot of fun. To all the Elvis fans there are no actual live versions of Elvis doing the song and from what Ive heard Elvis does not come close to Chuck Berry's raw and original rock and roll versions. CB doing the duck walk during the solo is icing on the cake. But it sucked that the band was messing up and just stopped in the middle of the song. Chuck played it off like a pro.
I saw Chuck live on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City in about 1970 when I was 9 or 10 years old. Still remember and cherish the experience 50 years later.
This was when he did the 'London Sessions' album in the UK - I saw him live in Glasgow Scotland in January of '73 and it still ranks as one of the best gigs I ever saw. Keep on rockin', Chuck...
Chuck is one of the all time greats, a pioneer of rock and roll. Scotty Moore, Elvis’ lead guitarist in the 50’s, though not a lyricist or singer, was an even more skilled guitarist, but a quiet man, content to be in the background.

In the late 50's and 60's.Radio stations would not play black artists music. Elvis had many #1's because he was white and sounded black, and had songs that charted on country and rock and roll charts. The record label would pay radio stations to play their music which would result in more records being sold, resulting in higher ratings. There were many songs written and performed by black artists that didnt chart until the songs were song by middle of the road white artists ( Tutti Frutti sung by Pat Boone) The kids listened to and danced to Little Richards Tutti Fruitti and thumbed their noses at Pat Boone's version.
