I will never say that they are the best ever, because who am I to say what the future lies ahead (one hopes better things), but I can definitely say that they were without a shadow of a doubt the best artistic act that ever happened in the 20th Century. Nobody can change my mind about that. No other artist or collective could ever top it, no Stanley Kubrick, no Francis Ford Coppola, no James Joyce, no Virginia Woolf, no Gabriel García Márquez, no Vincent Van Gogh, no Shigeru Miyamoto, could ever afford the sheer massiveness of The Beatles. They are for the ages. And don't get me wrong, those are some of the best artists of the 20th Century, but while they might go out out of style (and they do I guarantee you make you raise a smile), The Beatles is something I'm so clearly sure will outlive any other artistic device ever conceived it makes me believe there's a God out there.

This song showcases the best talent of all four Beatles. George's lead guitar sound more like church bells than a guitar. Paul's bassline supplements the melody beautifully. Ringo's best drumming ever, and he does it so effortlessly. And John? Just the greatest words, melody, and performance. Perfection.

I read an article by drum session legend Kenny Aronoff in which he said he used to make fun of Ringo's drumming until some magazine asked him to do a breakdown of this song. It blew Kenny's mind that Ringo never repeated a part in this song - every verse is different, as is every chorus. In effect, it's a 3-minute drum solo carrying the rest of the song.

From the amazing, innovative bass-line to the rampaging, flow-state drumming to the droning, dreamlike guitar rift and of course the poignant lyrical skill of Lennon that pulls you into a world that you can REALLY visualize. On top of that, when everything’s put together it blends so seamlessly, like a perfect puzzle; much like the vocal harmony that is literally like crack to my ear. It’s like the whole song is in a perfectly balanced counterpoint between all instruments and voices.

They were born to play together. When John met Paul and they discovered they had very similar musical tastes, they developed a wordless language. As they began to try to write their own songs, each became familiar with the process the other employed, and in their secret language of feel, they were able at times to finish each other's sentences, metaphorically speaking. But songwriting was something they felt obligated to do. Playing live together was more of a compulsion.

You know, I used to get into these Beatles arguments with people for years about this and that and how the Stones are better blah blah blah, now I just look at them funny, shake my head and walk away, Everybody knows the truth, if you either love them or you hate them, it really doesn't matter, The Beatles not only changed music forever, they helped start the British invasion wave which no other UK group could ever do prior to The Beatles, they changed pop culture, art, clothing, cultures worldwide, now tell me what other group did that? The Beatles were voted again 5 decades in a row the greatest band of all time, hell they haven't even played a song together since 1970, they are at the very top of the pinnacle and there's nobody even close up there, but midway down that pinnacle mountain you got a whole bunch of bands fighting for second place, it's just the way it is, the sooner you accept it the sooner your life will be that much better!! Long live The Beatles for all the next generations to come..
