  • In this episode, we attend the 3rd annual DIY Teardrop Campers Community spring gathering held at the Cumberland Mountain State Park in Tennessee. Nearly two dozen of the most brilliant builders in the United States showed up with cleverly designed tiny trailers. With everyone in attendance having a common bond, it was like a big family reunion, and we all left with new friends. Story telling around a campfire, sharing tips and ideas, and helping new builders kick off their own builds, this was a fantastic event.

Ryu's build was my favorite! A bunkbed in a teardrop is epic out of the box thinking!
Side note: I've never heard a Southern American Asian accent before. So cool!

It is so good to see all the great builds from the group and looks like I missed a wonderful time but you guys are so far from South Texas and driving great distances is prohibited by a back injury. I have ordered another trailer kit to start on another build, I only sell mine so I can build another as the build for me is great therapy and I want to own one of each style. Shout out to you all and super enjoyed this tour so like number 6,700 something

I live in Canada and unrelated just had to come back to this comment with the though of how somthing out thier might think they can use this again! I dought some things are bigger at all! I don't find on going non sence useful! Have a safe and healthy day where ever anyone lives

With the floor being lower underneath the table to dangle feet unit is definitely stealing design options from Japanese architecture… only thing missing was the heat source down there.

Although I kinda like the different ways to build teardrop campers...
I could never camp in, nor own, a teardrop. Even if it was just me. There's way too much transforming involved, which especially requires everyone to be outside. If it's raining, exceptionally windy, storming, needing to do a transformation during such potential weather is simply unacceptable.

As soon as I’m done fixing up my 1987 Toyota pickup with all the goods I’m gonna buy a very cheap camper only because I don’t have the resources, time, or space to build one myself but eventually I will.

4:05 That is a beautiful Japanese Family. All I can say it he did over engineer his tear drop camper. One think I am all about is multi purpose. Great Video. Showed my brother. He wants to build something like this. How ever its more Off Road Overlander Style. But the Idea is the same. Small Form Factor. I will be the one helping him with the over engineering it lol It will be cool. It starts in the next 2 months. Will link it.

you can imagine how low the actual cost of those massive produced camper is, and how much dealers are making over it.....a $17,000 camper from the dealer probably only cost like $6000 (probably even less if massive produced) to make, say another $5000 for other marketing cost, still $6000 net income (>35%).....i wouldn't surprise if it is actually 50% net income

What is the base trailer for these builds? That is one important item I want to know. I don't really like the idea of the folding Harbor Freight trailer, I think it might be a little flimsy. These don't look like Harbor Freight trailers either.

Guy's who understand boat building will have success. Lot's of builders build like a shed and it will have water rot the build. All holes need to be drilled then drilled oversized and filled with epoxy and filler! Then redrilled!! Especially on the bottom!

I liked the one with the natural wood you didn't tour that one, frame 0.08. I like the woodgrain paneling inside a trailer or tear drop. Not many original trailers left. So when I see one I have to comment. Maybe one day I may build one. It's hard for my wife to get in and out and she isn't comfortable in closed spaces I may have to make one that you can see through the roof. Maybe a skylight or something and two large doors on the sides is a must. I already have the mat to sleep on because my sister in law decided not to get a tear drop. So I ended up with the mat. 73

I added lots of extras to mine, so it was a bit more. I spent around $6,000 (including solar), and there was a bout a years worth of weekends and many evenings.

I've got around the same. Between $5500 and $6000. I need to sit down with all my receipts and figure it out completely. I also added a bunch of extra stuff to mine. I've got a cheap harbor freight solar panel kit for it, but I'm not really happy with the quality of the charge controller or the bulk of the panels. I'm currently looking to upgrade the system before I install it. It took me about 1 1/2 years only because I really didn't touch it much in the summers. It gets well over 100 degrees in my garage and just way too hot to enjoy working on anything out there lol.

For not knowing how to build a hatch it looks very good. And very good idea

I literally came to the same conclusion. Why buy when I can build it!

13:03 It says, "MADE IN USA 🇺🇸" 🇺🇸 IS MADE IN CHINA THOUGH and just about everything in that camper came from China 🇨🇳 or elsewhere.
Either way all the campers were so cool and refreshing. Thoroughly enjoyed it

His camper was built in the US. He cut the back end of a Jeep Cherokee off and built a camper around it. It may have items in it that are made oversees, but you’ll not find this camper being built any any foreign factory. BTW - You’re probably reading this on a Chinese smart phone. Just saying…

That was awesome! Really makes me wish that we could have made it. I'd love to see some of these teardrops in person. Thanks for the video!
