I've built 5 Campers (On my channel), but now I am a Toyota Van Camper that I customized myself. My Van was attacked by a large Black Bear in the night, as it was trying desperately to get in. It did damage to my van, so if a Black Bear tries to get into your camper,...kiss your teardrop skins goodbye. I'm glad I can just get behind the wheel and drive away, which I could have never done with my Tiny Campers.

You can't imagine how many trailer videos I have seen just trying to glean this info. I think I could probably pass the welders exam from all the trailer videos I have watched where half the video is about welding the frame. I'm not a welder nor plan on taking it up. If you look at my profile pic you'll see me standing next to a hotdog cart that I built from scratch on a Harbor Freight kit trailer for under 2 grand. So I figured I could do it again for the camper I want. I just needed parts and material sources. You nailed it my friend. Took me an hour because I kept stopping to take notes but it was well worth it. Straight dope with no B.S. as it should be. I have a 50" and Blue Ray if I want entertainment (not that you weren't entertaining). This should be very helpful for anyone building a teardrop. When I built mine 10 years ago it was like pulling teeth trying to find stuff. To any one building their own teardrop DON'T GIVE UP it is totally worth the time and effort.
That is good design for the core, insulation, and sheathing. That is the ideal i have for my camper i am designing, using plywood as a frame but cutting it out to make it lighter and use ridged foam board in those cutouts with 1/8" wood paneling or maybe 1/4" plywood on the inside glued to the foam and plywood frame, with 1/8" on the outside glued to the frame and foam. I was also thinking of trying another layer of foam over the entire outside, before the last layer of 1/8" wood but it would be glued(laminated) on with the rest of the layers. And then possibly if it is still light enough add a layer of fiberglass on the very last outside layer.

Hi Mike. Great video as usual. I seem to remember that petroleum jelly (vaseline) smeared over battery terminals would keep the corrosion down. Hot water should remove it first. Over here in the UK the hurricane hinge is known as a snail hinge. Took a while to figure out that translation. They use them for serving hatches on catering trucks.
Great video Micheal ! One day my wife and I would love to meet you and your wife. Last year I bought a truck slide in camper for the truck I have. It wasn't finished on the inside but I am working on it a little here and a little there. We pass through east TN area to visit family a few times a year so it would be nice to do that and I'm the one that won the camera from you. lol In case you didn't remember my name. lol
What a great explanation of all the work you put into this beautiful camper! You have suggestions for everyone! Your Camp-EZ is one of the best I've seen, Michael. Chris and I finally got our second vaccine and can now travel to see our children and grandchildren that live in Texas. It's been a whole year... We would have normally been there 3 or 4 times and they travel here too. So it's been too long! We are going to camp our way down and planned our camping as close to our route as possible. Edgar Evins just happened to be right along our route and when I looked at the campsites, I told Chris that they looked really familiar... Then I remembered "We camped on a Porch" instagram photo and your episode of Camp and Camera ... That was a fun discovery! Of course we had to watch that episode again! We hope our neighbors are quiet =) I hope you and Joanna are doing well... God bless you two! ~ Maria
Maria, it’s great to hear from you. Glad to hear you’re ready to travel again. I got my first dose yesterday. We haven’t been around family for a year either. I look forward to getting together with them soon. Let me know when you’re going to be rolling through Edgar Evans. Maybe we’ll cross paths.

Great info Thanks for that, as for corrosion on your battery terminal try using baking soda and vinegar that will clean it up quick. The corrosion may be caused by a bad ground somewhere down the line, or bunch of things like overcharging, leaking or cracked battery ect.. I'm sure you have googled it. I use a dielectric grease or just vaseline .
Hi, on one of your previous videos you wanted info on what to with rubbish + bags. I have no idea what U.S campsites are like but we hang the bags on a hook at the back of our caravan + walk to the rubbish area + dump it, or when we leave dump it off at a shpping area. Saw your hook for your cap, we had 2 in our teardrop ( bushcamp offroad ) it was,nt enough because I used to have my keys + watch on mine which I had to move to the cupholder to make room for my clothes. Well after a lot of inconvenience + yrs I asked my salesman in Arnhem to put in an extra 4. 3 for me + 1 for the wife. So I have more than enough room for my things. We have folding hooks which I thought was a pretty good idea. I also got him to put 4 mini hooks near the roof so I could put up a bagage net because when I,m finished with my reading pillow I can store it up there out of the way. It also doubles as a sort of barrier to stop things falling out of the top shelves if we happen to hit a bump in the road. Roy.
Im loving your videos! Ive been making camping videos for a couple years now. Im finally ready to build a rear drop or tiny/micro camper so the wife and I can summer camp here in Fl! Ive gotten a ton of great ideas from your videos!!! Subscribed and LOVING IT!!!!! Thanks for all the hard work!!!
I'm so glad I watched to the end to learn about the undercoating that you use and recommend. The product another builder highly recommended I just could not locate - I guess due to the supply chain delays so I was glad to find the one you recommend at my local Tractor Supply - and at a great price for a gallon (compared to Rustoleum undercoat which was 3X's the price). Thanks for the video! 6 TBS baking soda mixed with 4 C water for the corrosion on the battery terminal.
Vaccume and scape off the worst, then remove and use a wire brush to clean it all. Wash with club soda. Put a very light coat of vaseline or similar (Dollar Store) and plan to do it a couple times a year to be safe. Do it before you need it.
just came across your channel, very nice, well done, immense source of info, thank you. Regarding Battery post sulfatation or corrosion, I have had very good results applying either 'Corrosion Block' from Lear Chemical (almost magical!) as well as 'Fluid Film' on a clean and recently assembled battery post & clamp or screwed down terminals, specially in a warm and salty marine environment. If none of these at hand, a thin coat of Vaseline does help as well.
Try using battery terminal cleaner. Then when all the corrosion is removed coat the terminals with dielectric grease. That should help prevent corrosion.
Good info Michael. I am not sure if the corrosion is caused by this, but it is possible. You probably know I am a avid proponent of venting battery storage areas. The AGM ones will offgas if overcharged. If offgassing happens, your electronics could be at risk too. I have my little AGM in a vented box from RVupgrades (I think it is MTS brand). My battery is also in the tongue box. It is simple to install - but the vent hose is a small annoyance to accessing the other items in the storage box. Just a thought.
Permatex battery protector to prevent corrosion. It’s like $10 or so. Clean terminals and connectors well, then hook up like normal then spray. I use this on all my battery connections and I never have issues with corrosion.
Awesome video & thank you for sharing. I'm in the process of converting an 4'X8' enclosed trailer to a storage/solar power station and plan on using a lot of your suppliers & ideas. Thank you again for another awesome video!

I was taught , Baking soda mix with water. Cleans Battery acid Good. Must put grease or dielectric grease or spray from auto parts store made for battery terminals. They have spray for cleaning battery terminals.
This^^ clean it up , eye protection! Polish the connections with 320 grit and add a light coating dielectric grease. A shroud wouldn’t be a bad idea too.
I got my wheel well tool boxes for my 2001 f150 truck they are very durable and love them and use the cup holders they have on the lids all the time however they did not come with all the mounting hardware so I had to make some brackets and a hinge rod for one. btw I noticed you did not have tailgate assist struts on your f150 I just installed one on my f150's tailgate really helps me with closing my tailgate and it cushions it when you lower it got it from amazon for $20.00 came with everything to do a similar to factory install
Just a notice for everyone buying electronic parts ( switches, fuses, etc.) You can get quality parts from a real supplier like digikey, mouser, arrow. The websites .have all the specs listed and most importantly you are not buying questionable fire prone crap from China. Sometimes the parts are the same price or slightly cheaper depending on what you are searching for
That is so slick. I love what you've done here. I have a 21 year old daughter who loves hiking and I want to build her one. Thanks for the info and inspiration!!!
To clean the battery use baking soda and water pour it on and let it work then when it's clean put on some corrosion spray on to keep it from happening next time.
Thanks for the great channel and all of the information and helpful tips. I am in the planning phases for building my own teardrop and had a question about your hubs, brakes, wheels and tires. My plan is to use a Timbren suspension and I want to use car tires like you did. Can you tell me what you chose for tires, wheels, hubs, brakes?
Hey there! I went with 15” Toyo Extensa 205/75R15 tires. They’ve been great! As for brakes, I bought Dexter brand, although I still haven’t installed them! Lol!
I've had luck cleaning the terminal with baking soda and an old brush. CRC makes a battery terminal protector in a spray can. One can will last your life. So far I think it's been worth it.
I was watching your videos and wondering how you built the outside mounting plate where the little table slides in the track does it screw to the side or a strong adhesive?
Thanks for all the videos you shard I watch some .I bot a terdrop from a gentleman. That started it did relly good job on the frame I went from there I'm doing it in my spare time as a retirement project .I'm just doing it .for old loging truck driver I'm doing OK I feel .I'm doing it to flip .but kinda folling in love with it ..I don't no if I can shere pics with you or not but it looking good so for I relly apresheat yore videos Thanks. The wood in the cabinet looks great. For me carpentry looks better when you get a couple different colors of wood offsetting each other, looks like higher quality and more elegant and organic, and anyway the cabinets look great.
Michael - your videos and insights have been invaluable - thanks! Two Questions - 1. You have a link or brand on the external light above your door you use, and does it have a switch directly on it? 2. The Shore power connector 30 amp, is the Marine/RV male; do most sites use this special plug vs the standard indoor like config? Trying to figure out if I put one of these or the standard pins (and then get a pig tail adapter) All the best, Gus
Hey there! If memory serves correct, I bought the light on eBay by searching black oval RV porch light. The plug I use is male. It accepts a female standard extension cord. I just run my teardrop off a standard 120V outlet at the shore power post at campgrounds.
Best way to clean corrosion no doubt is boiling hot tap water! Remove - cable and put terminal end in cup hot water 20 minutes. Pour hot water on battery terminal, finish cleaning with wire brush.
Take terminal off post. Pour cola (soda) over both parts. Clean w toothbrush. Any cola product will work then apply petroleum jelly Check all your grounds. Common cause and over charge!
How long does the 5 lb propane tank last? I have a 17” blackstone griddle and two burner coleman stove with a splitter at the tank . I’m looking at the 11lb tank because the 20 is just bulky but i griddle everything every meal and don’t want to run out. Thanks
In our particular install, we only use it for a 2 burner cooktop. We use it multiple times each trip though. One year of use, and and it only took 1/3 of a tank to refill it.
Great detail, thank you! I always buy local if I can. The logistical nightmares the world is seeing these days should be a warning not to put too many eggs in one large basket. 👍
@@CampandCamera I'm building a CTC and got my inspiration from TNTT website. I need to make a door for my conversion and have no skills whatsoever. Are there plans or some type of directions on the TNTT site that will help me build my door. I need the door and frame pretty straight forward it needs to be 22 inches wide by 5 ft. tall. A basic rectangle no window nothing fancy! I want it to be pretty much aluminum so I will need source for material. Or is there someone in your community that builds doors? This^^ clean it up , eye protection! Polish the connections with 320 grit and add a light coating dielectric grease. A shroud wouldn’t be a bad idea too.
Super awesome build...🍺🍺🍺😎
Thank you!!
I’d like to pick up a set of the boxes. I just installed a bed cover. I’m really liking it.
@@CampandCamera tail gate lift assist has been an awesome add, the boxes are flimsy on the bottom with the brackets deezee sends which are none
got my lift assist unit from Orion motor tech on amazon
lol my kids left my bed cover open we had 50 mph wind I want to work driving 80 mph that cover was toast
@@CampandCamera I just said to myself I am a tool guy I dont need a bed cover
Just a notice for everyone buying electronic parts ( switches, fuses, etc.) You can get quality parts from a real supplier like digikey, mouser, arrow. The websites .have all the specs listed and most importantly you are not buying questionable fire prone crap from China. Sometimes the parts are the same price or slightly cheaper depending on what you are searching for
Great build. Where did you get the outdoor table bracket and the propane bracket? Thanks
You can pick the table bracket up at Vintage Technologies, eBay, or Amazon. The tank bracket came from SoCal Teardrops.
How easy was it to roll/shape the exterior corner trim? Thanks for the help
Super easy!
Great video Mike
Thanks so much!
A really helpful video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing happy camping
You bet! Happy camping to you as well!
I have been looking for your Facebook page but unable to find it. Interested in attending one of your group events.
That is so slick. I love what you've done here. I have a 21 year old daughter who loves hiking and I want to build her one. Thanks for the info and inspiration!!!
Thanks for stopping by! Best of luck on your build!
Lol!
Another super video, Mike!
I've had luck cleaning the terminal with baking soda and an old brush. CRC makes a battery terminal protector in a spray can. One can will last your life. So far I think it's been worth it.
Perfect! Thank you!
I was watching your videos and wondering how you built the outside mounting plate where the little table slides in the track does it screw to the side or a strong adhesive?
I placed butyl tape between the wall and the bracket and fastened it with stainless screws.
@@CampandCamera I was able to locate the parts on Amazon thanks
Thanks for all the videos you shard I watch some .I bot a terdrop from a gentleman. That started it did relly good job on the frame I went from there I'm doing it in my spare time as a retirement project .I'm just doing it .for old loging truck driver I'm doing OK I feel .I'm doing it to flip .but kinda folling in love with it ..I don't no if I can shere pics with you or not but it looking good so for I relly apresheat yore videos Thanks. Timmy fron B.C
Hey, thanks for watching! Enjoy your build. It will be difficult to let it go.
I was just wondering a couple of days ago about where do people get their supplies; how did they get started. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
The wood in the cabinet looks great. For me carpentry looks better when you get a couple different colors of wood offsetting each other, looks like higher quality and more elegant and organic, and anyway the cabinets look great.
Thank you! Much appreciated.
Love your video’s!
Thank you!!
Great vid! Thanks so much!
Pour hot water on battery terminal, finish cleaning with wire brush.
pour coca cola on the corrosion or mix a little bit of baking soda and water to make a paste to put on it with an old toothbrush or something.
Take terminal off post. Pour cola (soda) over both parts. Clean w toothbrush. Any cola product will work then apply petroleum jelly
Check all your grounds. Common cause and over charge!
Where did you get the hardware that holds the doors open?
Search “RV door holder” in eBay. There will be a variety of them there.
thank you
You're welcome
RE: Corrosion - in the Army we just greased the battery terminals with axle grease.
the electrical system does both AC and DC... but was wondering if it did AM and FM too???🤣
Of course!
Where u get ur doors and windows
I made the doors. Windows were an eBay purchase.
Did you purchase your entry doors or build them?
I built them.
I'm in Apex,NC and I believe you mentioned you were in East Tennessee? My wife and her parents grew up in Johnson City. Her dad is a retired principal with the JC school system.
What is your total cost into your cmper?
About $6,000
Corrosion no problem try plain soda water!
Thanks!
Just let you now the corrosion is cause by to much charging power just make sure it’s not hard on your battery
That’s good to know.
On the bad terminals pour coke a cola....just pour a little at a time leave it on there for about ten to fifteen minutes and watch what happens.😉😊 let me know..
