- FLIGHT Japan Air System DC-10-30 JA8550 Seoul (SEL) - Tokyo (NRT)
Summer time is flying time.
Winter time is editing time.
I am now starting to work on my oldest footages, starting in 1993, using Hi8 analogue tapes, partly heavily damaged. Quality is partially horrible and editing and scene cutting this material is a true nightmare. Nevertheless it is worth its while taking all the trouble to save these memories for the future.
I was living from 1994-1998 in South Korea and I was often shuttling between Seoul and Tokyo on duty. Among these countless flights are also those to be considered historic from the viewpoint of the year 2017. In the 90s however there was nothing special to fly onboard a classic B 747 or a DC-10.
The following footage is of horrible quality. Tape and camera and battery problems and bad camera focus. I do not really care about the ratings of my videos. Publishing these historic footages is my mission in the first place.
This inflight video features a flight onboard Japan Air System (JAS) classic DC-10-30 JA8550 from Seoul (SEL) to Tokyo (NRT) back in 1996, 21 years ago.
History of Japan Air System DC-10-30 JA8550
Airframe 48315 was manufactured 1988 and delivered to
Japan Air System (JAS) and registered JA8550, March 30, 1988.
JA8550 operated for Harlequin Air, Japan after December 18, 1997. JA8550 was sold to Northwest Airlines, March 29, 2000 and registered N243NW. N243NW was sold to Omni Air International and registered N522AX, October 20, 2006. Since August 2014, N522AX operates for 10 Tanker Air Carrier and is reported active by the year 2017.

Korean farewell PA made by Japanese Cabin Attendant. Very impressive!
Love these classic videos, worked as a young college kid on many a DC-10 when I worked in Air Cargo for Page Aviation servicing Lufthansa"s DC-10-30s and later for FedEx on both DC10-10 and 30, workhorse birds, always loved the sound of these beasts taking off with those GE CF'6s growing at takeoff, great robust place, miss the old classic DC10s, 747s and L1011s.
I love that you made these videos back in the day, seriously, thank you!
@@sightsandsoundsofaviation No problem, they are awesome, and give me a peak at my childhood - I flew alot of thse birds as a kid. And spotting today is just not the same, so much diversity on both airlines and aircraft back in the day. Do you live in Japan still?
I love the big aircraft and here you have a great view in wonderful, bright color of all the classic widebodies.
Thanks for downloading. It does not matter that the tape was damaged. Have only flown the DC-10 twice (New York-JFK). Once with SAS and once with Laker Airways. The 10 always had a tendency to slightly get into a barely noticeable Dutch Roll even with the yaw dampers on. What impressed me was the size of the flight deck compared to the 747.
Thank you for these great DC-10 videos. I just realized that my final DC-10 flight was aboard this very same ship in 2004 when she flew for NW as N243NW.
I'm actually planning my first trip to Japan. I'll be staying in Shinjuku Ni-Chome district. Flying nonstop from Boston, MA Logan to Tokyo Narita. I loved this old footage of thi DC-10 and that little kid was absolutely ADORABLE around the 15:41 mark in the video. Great video thanks for sharing...:)
Amazing! Love that sound!
Such a great video of the DC-10. I like twin aisle planes and the unique engine positions of the DC-10 is beautiful. Wonder how many airlines are still flying them.
This is a rare treat. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome video, you rock, thank you!!!
Thank you Robert !
The MD 11 replaced the DC 10 series in 1986 and after 9/11 Sep , all DC 10s in uSA were quickly retired . That DC 10 would have Analogue/semi digital cockpit display units.
日本エアシステムにDC10があったのですね?
制服も懐かしい✈️
DC10 was the famous Aircraft 😅ever... And Crew 🎉🎉
jas beautiful
I expected to hear the buzzsaw engine sounds, nothing, while the stupid and repetitive cabin music was loud and clear, disappointing
Bloodie Monster, but always Safe ❤
Have you recorded the safety video? I'm kinda curious about what the safety video looks like.

Really nice video from the past!! :D Back in those days, I was flying on Air Canada DC9s and Canadi>n's 737-200s, short haul flights, but it was great times indeed. Canadi>n North was operating Fokker F28s back in the day and happy to say, Canadi>n North is still operating today! In the summer of 1996, I flew on a Canadi>n 767-200ER to LHR and the flight was perfect! It was such a great airline, wish they were still around today. :D
Hmm, a short takeoff roll. About 28 seconds.
나중에는 한국어 안내방송도 해주네요, 비록 승무원이 서툰 한국말 안내방송 해주네요
