I love Ark, but unless you’re content to PvE servers or single player, it’s a younger man’s game. When I was a hardcore teenage gamer blasting it up on games like Pandemic Studios’ Battlefront and Battlefield 2, and with fewer responsibilities, I’d still be playing. Ark is literally a game from my childhood dreams.
However, with a wife, two kids, and a small business to take care of, I have been relinquished to a state more akin to a “casual” gamer. If it weren’t for the vulnerability whilst offline, perhaps I could manage it, but otherwise, Ark PvP is like having a parallel life altogether, and I need my sleep.
There is an online app called “Dodex” and it tells you how much tranqs it will take to knock any Dino and how long it will take to tame. It’s pretty accurate. I can feel nooblets is getting bored in ark sense he has started from scratch like 7 times and beat the game many times too. He’s built big bases and tamed all there is to tame. When gen 2 comes out i can almost guarantee all his ark content will be on gen 2
@@blasterbrain1443 there’s lots of different unofficial servers with offline protection or no damage to structures. I used to play offlicial pvp for years but as you said, it’s like a second job or life really.

Excellent video on tranq facts. I reckon there's a lot of players who don't know precisely those stats and for me this info was invaluable. Not long ago I went for a weekend break and discovered I had nearly missed your last video. After recovering from the shock, I have decided never to go on a weekend break again lol. The bee taming was another one that I never knew. I've been subbed for many years now and still get surprised at how you manage to find good videos to post. Ty for taking the time and hope you never stop. :)

Here's one ya might be able to help me out with, I can't 100% make my mind up what is best to arm my mantis with. All out power with swords or give them a decent pick so they attack armour first. Any thoughts?

I found that pumping melee into a frog, often killed the dino I was trying to tame before it got knocked out, so I mix it up a little with frog, then finish with tranqs.

The Awesome Spyglass are really good when doing things like this since you wear it all the time and see the stats on all dinos you look at.

Watching your videos brings a good dose of nostalgia, always a pleasure. But I do have a question though, wouldn't it be better to wait 5-6sec after each tranq dart? I never fire rapidly like that and I think it would take less arrows if you wait between shots.
That's correct. Torpor increases for 5 seconds after hit. Applies to all the shown ammo types. Frogs can apply a 10 second torpor over 10 seconds. Does not stack with the same attack.

Hey nooblet, awesome content. I would love to see some videos about game play, mainly how to do things more efficiently. I see alot of people playing and harvesting metal in island when abe would be best, or never knowing about mochops been awesome at harvesting polymer, even that chainsaws exist. There is a lot of farming techniques and tips that you could make videos off. This might be more resourceful for pvp but please players could benefit from knowing some of this tips.

Using the Awesome Spyglass is better imo, because the HUD actually stays up as long as you target the dino. Easier to see the torpor and hp “in real time”.
Spear bolts are a pain to make but once I started using them, man, I never went back. As good as it gets underwater, where you can't use the rifle.
God I love shocking tranq darts, though. Only reason for the jellyfish to exist.

The harpoon gun is usually underrated in pvp but I started crafting them after I saw how much damage it does to dinos.

How does the damage of weapon affect taming? Is higher damage weapon better or worse?
Nice video- I'm genuinely surprised it didn't matter that much if you do headshots or body shots, as I'd always believed headshots would be more effective...
Although thinking about it, when tranqing it SHOULDN'T be more effective to hit them in rhe head, thinking about it... You're trying to tranq them, not hurt them, so really you should be avoiding headshots, if the game was built that way, anyway...
Now I'm gonna build a little spreadsheet and work out which type of tranq ammo is most cost effective in term of resources over speed and quantity. 🤓

the rex will die from the damage before it gets knocked out. it takes around 800 stones if i remember correctly

I’ve never used shocking tranks. They look really good on the rexes so I might start making some when I can.
They are very effective. However they are very expensive as you need to first get bio toxin, tranq darts and metal ingots. I use them when I'm taming a giga as it doesn't take nearly as long to knock out. But you will be needing a lot of metal and gun powder. Be careful though as they have a spoil timer. So keep then in a fridge or preserving bin until you want to use them.

How do you see it's torpor with spyglass?
The only problem with this test is that the stats of a 150 rex are not static. A level 150 just means it has had 149 level points into it's stats randomly. Because the stats are random after level 1, it is completely possible(although unlikely) to get a shitty level 150 rex with 50 points into food and oxygen and 49 into weight. This means if you use tranq arrows on a high level rex that has a low amount of points into it health stat might die.

I'm sure your probably aware, but if you use a higher level Xbow (MC, ascendant 200%+ Dmg ) you'll use far less arrows, less than the number of darts shot with a prim long neck. Higher echelon weapons (MC/Ascendant) have a multiplier effect on tranqs, and they have much higher durabiility meaning you don't have to have 10 XBows or 5 Long Necks on your Inv. Reference the Dododex variable Weapon index for knock out quotients entering your Weapon Damage% and it will calculate the lesser number of Tranq Arrows/Darts required. I use Master Craft/ Ascendant echelon Xbow's to do all my taming knock outs as Tranq Arrows are far less expensive (Mats and time) to craft.

From what i understand knockout speed, regardless of tranq or cannon type, is based on damage dealt thus headshots only help on dinos that have a headshot multiplier.
It is, but it's also based on tranq in that the different weapons/projectiles deal different damage, but in the end, yes, it's entirely based on damage
@@iamacatperson7226 i was more implying that against rexes, who do not have a headshot multiplier (back when i played anyway) it does not matter where you hit them, where as say an argey has one thus would benefit from headshots

@@kottonzartist7870 if u want something op, try to get a mantis and breed it, put all the points into melee (mine has 1000). With a club, can knock out a max rex in 5 seconds. You can also just raise the eggs and kill baby's for unlimited polymer chitin and prime meat.

My dude the shocking tranq darts was flawed with the stego interfering. I know it didn't cause it to sleep but it did heal it which makes the health wrong

So some things can be knocked out by punching them like the dodo and jerboa. If you put all of your points into melee, how much torpor does the character do? Does the Tek gauntlet become OP... how about other melee weapons?

For everyone on xbox, due to the last update there is a chance that you will lose your singleplayer save files, it might be smarter to wait with playing till there is more info available, steve if you read this, could you maybe pin it or make a vid/post about it so more people can see?(i lost 272 hours of singleplayer data to this and i don't want other people to go through that)
What's the best tranq because im looking to tame a lvl 110 rex that's been outside my base for 2 days now and it killed my ptredon and my 3 lvl 29,lvl56,lvl32 but i cant get into my base to get my lvl 125 rex to kill it and im looking for another rex so i need a fast 1

Yeah, some of the animals have a headshot multiplier, but the big carnivores aren't among them. I WISH it made a difference on a Giga, lol

Hello nooblets, I really enjoy your videos! I have learned a lot from them over the past, what, 6 years now of ark videos?
However, in this test, you kinda screwed up the tranq arrow torpor test. 100 arrows = 15,750 total torpor (35 damage & 157.5 torpor per arrow)
Tranq arrows apply their torpor in 70 up front, and 87.5 over 5 seconds (multiplied by your crossbow's damage multiplier). The rex had 15,400 torpor maximum, so... 98 arrows should have been enough to KO it.
But I don't know for certain if it would work if you fired 98 as fast as you can. It "should" work, but ARK is ARK sometimes.
The torpor over time should stack from multiple arrows, BUT, I don't think it stacks infinitely (I could be wrong). In early EA, it did not stack, and people were wasting tons of arrows, and taming as part of a team was pointless, so they changed it to stack. But my anecdotal impression from experience is that there is a limit to the number of stacks which can coexist.
The way the torpor stacks is sequential (which is to say that each stack of torpor over time from the same shooter will occur after the previous one has finished). So if (for example) you shoot 10 arrows over about 21 seconds (rough estimate of the time it takes to fire 10 arrows with an X-bow, probably more like 25 seconds if you have server lag), it will apply torpor over 50 seconds (including the 21 seconds you spent shooting). 5 seconds worth of sequentially stacked torpor over time x10 arrows. Some sources say it is over 4 seconds, not 5. This may be true, but then again server lag can mess with things as well. But these are the fundamental mechanics of how it works.
This effect is actually extremely useful for taming a giga or a doed. On a doed, you can usually apply enough stacked torpor to KO the creature before it curls up into a ball. Just fire non-stop at the doed, and when it curls up, it 'should' have enough stacked torpor over time to finish. Operative word being "should", I never trust ARK to work right.
On a giga... well if the giga is not trapped, then they like to run all over the place if you're taming from a safe location like a cliff-top or a quezal, etc. So the tranq arrows give you a slow torpor increase over time, which helps prevent torpor loss from the time it spends moving out of range. Also, the gun (due to the long reload time) has a small gap of time where no torpor is being applied before the next dart hits the target. On any dino which has a crazy fast torpor recovery rate (like a giga), this means that darts will apply torpor in a "2 steps forward, 1 step back" manner, making tranq darts actually very inefficient on those dino types. Most dinos lose torpor slowly enough that this isn't a significant issue. There are not many dino types where this matters, but gigas are a very noteworthy example, where you really should be using a crossbow to KO them. If you have 2 people firing darts at a giga, and the giga is trapped so there's no time spent chasing it, this issue goes away (so long as you're not firing in sync with each other). If you're playing solo, or from a server in your own basement, and have no server lag, darts can actually stack torpor "slightly". With server lag, you'll usually have torpor loss between shots.
Also, when a source like dododex quotes the number of torpor projectiles needed, it doesn't account for torpor loss. So if you're using a rifle, which has a short period of torpor loss between shots, it can take slightly more ammo than quoted. On a giga, this effect is extremely exaggerated (as outlined above).
Rex's have no headshot bonus. So you pretty much always want to shoot for the body on Rex's anyway. Actually a majority of the creatures in ark have no headshot bonus. And 3 of them have a negative headshot bonus (as in, headshots are actually much less effective than body shots), these are the trike, pachy, and pachyrhinosaurus. Some other creatures have other areas where they take less damage (and less torpor). Stegos and morelotops have armored spines, stegos have an armored tail, snails & turtles have an armored shell. The torpor is a multiplier derived from the damage, so if you have damage numbers turned on, you can see when you're doing bad torpor. Or when a particular dino offers any benefit from headshots.

its around 10020 arrows for a rex with crossbows I tamed one with normal bows and over 300 arrows lol I was very low level and the rex was wedged in between some rocks lol. darts take around 80-90 , shocking for me is around 50
I am curious about the trap that can give torpor but you need to make sure the last shot is using a tranq dart or arrow to be able to tame it I have seen a video of someone doing this but it was a while ago I never have tried it at least not yet would like to see how it works on say a Giga or max level rex
