I remember when taming a giga was a big deal, like they were the single most dangerous thing on the map and if you had one everyone was scared of you, but since they nerfed the giga I'd rather just have a high level rex
Edit: i leave this main comment here as a fond memory, but since this comment was made gigas have been buffed to be one of the meta dominating animals in ark. When this comment was made gigas were relatively weak/balanced. Now they’re OP as they ever were

The best tame in my book is the reaper king, takes almost no damage with full imprint combined with its natural armor, is many times stronger than a boss Rex and its stamana drain is very low and even if it does run out standing still for 4 seconds it will be back to full and has a much greater base damage than the Rex, only takes three days to raise with meat, can be transfered to any map and can go into any boss arena. the list goes on and on. The only bad thing I can think about it is its weakness to chargelight BUT that only takes away its natural armor but it doesn't effect its imprinting armor plus it has a large healthpool if fully imprinted we have many with 30k health and 700%+ melee

Kibble is easier to make now. You can keep it asleep better with biotoxin, rather than narco juice. Starve tame it to get a better taming percentage. A trap with a pressure plate, for less risk getting bit. All around easier.

For late game, use more than 3 gates, like a funnel and giga cant cross distance smaller than 1 foundation, so its ok to separate them a bit

Happy to report that this still works! I got a level 100 R-giga. Though there was a wee bit of concern as he slipped out just as he was almost knocked out. But, I still got him as he was trying run. I need to get a cup of tea to settle my nerves. 😉

O dude this is sick i was preparing to tame a giga with about 1000 plus narcotis and a load of tranq darts and kibble thanks for dis vid man really helped me out even if the giga was level 87

Don't forget you can also find gigas in the desert on ragnorak, there are more predators but it is flatter and can spot one long before they spot you

Another way is to Get a quetzal, build the platform, and use that as a mobile platform to shoot down from. You can even do it solo since it’ll hover in place after you jump off it. If you aren’t playing solo then it’s insanely easy with added firepower from your friends.

We use that trench nearby, where the artifact is. Put a behemoth gate on each side then kite the Giga into the trench. Tame from a safe distance

You can get a decent taming effectiveness and tame them fairly quickly on a 2xp weekend with mutton. That’s how I tame my throw aways. Then there’s the 100% imprint 350 melee giga that munches Titans

Here's some more tips which a lot of people know, clear everything out off of the giga's track first, use creature lure, pick up a tasty creature for the giga like a dodo, giga will chase you while flying, place the last gate while you're still on griffin/ptera (yes you could do this as easy if not easier on ptera)
On a giga, torpar goes down WAY faster than it goes up. Each narcotic takes 8 seconds to apply. The best thing to do is wait for the torpor to go down to about 25% (will take less than 3 minutes) and then rapidly feed it 600-1000 narcotics all at once. That will keep it down for 1-2 hours, because it takes that long to apply. On a lower level one like this, you might have to babysit it more because the max torpor is pretty low. 500 = 20,000 torpor, which is about max here, so probably want to feed it no more than 300 at a time, that should still give you about 30 minutes between sessions.
-MAKE SURE YOU LET THE TORPOR GO DOWN ENOUGH FIRST. Torpor starts falling as soon as it hits max, meaning it will wake in a few short minutes. Let it drop a good amount before starting so there is room for all narcos to apply.
-unless part of the Giga is in water, there is no need to guard, nothing on land will attack a wild giga.
-torpor is reset to 0 once tamed, but will keep going up. Your giga will probably flash purple for a while after taming if you did overkill on the narcos. Nothing to worry about unless you misjudged it by such an insane amount to knock it out again (would probably take over 1k extra)
-use a crossbow to knockout. Don’t waste a riffle, they fire MUCH slower and do less torpor over time. Just bring 4 good level x-bows you find from killing Aphlas and about 500 tranq arrows, totally free! (450 arrows will down a lvl 150 if x-bows are at least 150%)

Yan Wu your 400% crossbow is the same as 4 crossbows firing at the same time, so basically it is the same as having 4 crossbows but also it drops the gigs 4 times faster

I found a asendant crossbow blueprint that does 569% damage its godly i now have 16gigas level 360
I use this method. Works so well. At first we were using stone behemoth gates and layering 3-4 so the giga had to chew through them all to escape. Eventually I figured out they can’t damage metal. Also gigas are suckers for sheep. Carry a sheep over it and it will follow. Carry extra crossbows because you can easily wear out 3-4 crossbows firing so many arrows.

also weekends 2x taming speed on official servers, plus is better to shot every 4 to 6 seconds to bet benefit overtime. check on food stat to go down the only the right amount.

I heard biotoxin is worth getting some of to use instead of narcos. But on official i dont know how long it lasts or if it has a low stack size. On my server it was 45 mins with a pretty large stack size so i always have some in the fridge

Hey, so, you could build that trap you used, but then use a quetzal with a balista firing tranq bolts.
I always use metal dino gates(not behemoth) SS or S+, they trap it. And a few canon balls do the trick

you can easily tame non fliers by just using a crossbow with a grapling hook hrapling on top of a hill where they can't hit u and judt spam them with darts until they start running wfter that just get down and chase it

This helped me tame this LVL 150 giga I found with almost 100,000K torpidity it took me 2 hours to knock out because I ran out of tranqs when it had 11K of torpidity left and when I returned it had all its torp back worst experience of my life but it was SOOOOO OP

A Compound Bow would take less arrows because the giga loses torpor so fast, the compound will deliver more in a shorter amount of time
Like its two years ago but i still feel the need to correct this so that people who stuble across this do not get misinformed: as long as the Torpor rises through DoT effects such as Tranq Darts or Tranq Arrows it will not decrease. Same with knocked out creatures, their Torpor drain stops as soon as you give them Berries or Narcotics which raise the torpor.

Hey Steve why you skimping on the gates? It's a Giga! If there was ever a dino you spent resources to catch, this is it. Personally I use 5 gates with 3 making a wide bowl to catch him and 2 to close the trap with 3 or 4 large bear traps to pin him down for a good 15-20 seconds. All the time in the world to get those last 2 gates in place. The giga has a HUGE hitbox too so you can leave a gap between the gate frame uprights to spread the capture area a little larger. Additionally, you can always salvage the metal gates after for about 50% return so it's still a cheap trap.
One thing I learned the hard way, if you have to leave and come back before the Giga is knocked out, the dino will render in BEFORE the trap and he will escape the ring before the gates load in :P
I've never used narcotic to make Giga unconscious, I always have a theri around to harvest more in case I run out
So i like to see how you tame dinosaurs i know the next battle is the dragon so breed the best of the best rex with all of the 13 with tek saddle does not matter if you power it or not then heal the dino with the pigs and buff then with the fluffy rex and the fluffy rex can scare the weak dino like petradons and the others with the rex other power!

Just make 30 pillars and 30 ladders then place a floor at the top it can be made of stone just make sure you make a bridge like structure so he can hit the pillars then jus keep hitting it w tranquilizers hell you can even use a boomerang w enogh time
Just tamed my first Giga on Ragnarok - L140. Tried first with 4 metal billboards and wooden ramp. 1st time got it in and down but ran out of narcotics. 2nd time lured it in and ran back to base for supplies but damn thing jittered out of the trap when it went out of render 😢 Finally researched best Giga trap and found one that is not only foolproof but multi-directional. Uses: 6 triangular metal foundations set in a circle, each two thatch foundations apart. 6 metal double doorways at the outer edge of each triangular block and a sloped metal ceiling topping each door, pointing into the circle. To lure the Giga in, use a flier that can carry a smaller creature, pick up a lystro and aggro the Giga. Fly over the centre of the circle from any side, Giga will follow bait, get tangled and stuck inside. Easy to take down (so big you can’t miss!). Took 92 darts with 400% longneck, approx 700 narcotics, 7 extraordinary kibble.

I am currently playing on mobile hard mode and currently level 77 and i bought the tannery and the giga saddle with it and i found a level 275 giga near the volcano so yeah wish me luck

I did the behemoth gates, took a bit to get them but now they are placed and i got the giga. The torp is insanely terrible. Goes down thousands a second so you have to really sit there with narcotics or bio toxins

Me and my brother went looking for a quetzal and we rested our birds on a cliff to the side of a mountain, and he said something is up there. I couldnt see because there was a tree and from the top of the mountain a giga jumped down and killed me and my brother including our birds in one blow. Also we tamed it after. It took 2 hourz
I grow narcoberries in my greenhouse and take like 1k when I tame a Giga. I find narcoberries are actually better for taming it since they inflict torpor very slowly to counteract the torpor going down so fast

One 32 killed a Rex I just had tamed. So I set a trap like this. Went totally wrong, Giga killed me, a Pterano and two Argis (one of them my best friend ingame). Luckily I had logged out right after in frust and when I came back the last autosave at least allowed me to rescue my best bird and my items...
